Help!! I backed up my digital stash--mostly on an external hard drive. Now it won't work and I have to go get another ehd to back-up my scrapbooking. Now here's the question..Do most of you back your supplies up on external hd or use a service that backs them up for you? If you use a service..would you please advise me of a good one to use? I can't wait to get to the store tomorrow and get some help..until I find out about a service. Thanks for any suggestions!

I think that may be the way to go--to buy extras and make two-three copies. I hope that I sleep tonight...My main computer has been good...but hopefully, it will make it through the night!!! Oh dear....it could be a nightmare~!:groan:groan

I have mine on EHD and backed up on another EHD and then I occassionally remember to back up to DVD (not often). I would love to use an online backup but I can't being in Australia (we have monthly limits).

I back up to Mozy.com, which I signed up for after we discussed backing up here about a month ago. At the time I kept all of my supplies on an EHD and then would (periodically) back up to another EHD that we keep downstairs in the office. But I was spotty about backing up and it didn't give me off-site storage.

My Mozy upload took about a month and MAN did I feel relieved when it was done. LOL Now it backs up every night, anything new that I added or any files that changed. I hear that if I actually did have a complete data loss that it would take an eon to redownload everything but I'll cross that bridge if/when I get there. (Hopefully never!) If it takes me a month to redownload it all I'm okay with that, as long as it's there.

I use 2 EHD's for my digi supplies. My pictures are also on my mom's EHD and are uploaded to Shutterfly.

  9. I have an ehd and i backup to mozy. It does take a long time for the initial backup but its so worth it! I've even had to download stuff off there before. Also I think they have the option of getting it on dvd if you ever need all your files.

Well, I don't backup a needle. I know, this is not right and I need to change it. What I do is sending the layouts done to my e-mail with the credits. lol Pictures are in the desktop and netbook, mom backup them in DVDs. And praying for not having a HD crash, again.
I lost evertyhing three times in the last year. Once I really lost and the others the computer needed to be fixed and the guys, as always, deleted it all. I didn't worry because they could find my things again and my layouts and pictures were saved.
I am seriously thinking about Mozy and an EHD is in my wishlist.
    Please, don't follow my example.

My hubby and I were just talking about this yesterday. I'm overly paranoid about losing stuff. Even if it's something I may never use again, if I accidentally delete something and can't get it back I obsess until I get it back. So dumb. :) I currently keep everything on a EHD and then I back up to DVDs which I take sometimes to my safety deposit box at the bank. That was one of DHs gift for Christmas last year. He was just asking me if I'd prefer on online backup system so I wouldn't have to take the time to burn DVDs and then take them to the bank.

If you do need to get stuff back from an online place, do you have to pay to download?

I just have it on my EHD too, and I keep thinking I need to do something more. The photos I have printed out I have stored at the printers though, so at least I have those backed up, but not much else. I've been thinking about getting a second EHD to keep at my parents house, in case mine breaks or there's a fire or something (touch wood)

With Mozy, you do not have to pay to download from their servers. It does take a LONG time, though, if you have to download everything you have. If you want them to burn your stuff to a disc you do have to pay them for that service and it is expensive.

Thanks so much. I finally got all my files working and have been backing up like crazy on my EHD and on DVDs. I think I will get another EHD and check out Mozy, too. Thank you all for the great tips. Whew...I was in a panic over losing everything.

I have 2 EHD, and back-up to Back Blaze. I actually had my laptop die this year, and had everything safely backed up to Back Blaze then. They also have a great option, instead of downloading all you files back, they will put it on a EHD for you and send it to you. There is a charge, but it was so great to not have to download all my stuff.
