Some of you may remember that in March 2018, my mum went to the emergency room for some suspected heart issues. She saw the specialist a year ago in May who diagnosed her with heart valve disease and was told surgery would be in 2-5 months. Since then she’s had numerous tests and appointments every 2-3 months. The latest chapter to this story is her next test will not be done for 40 weeks! Not the results but the actual test. When I heard this I said, 14 weeks? thinking I’d misheard, she said nope, 40. Only after she’s seen the specialist will she be added to the surgery waiting list....so much for surgery in 2-5 months!
Jennifer- that is a hard pill to swallow! Sometimes the medical industry makes me scratch my head and sigh, other times I have to resist the urge to shout. Hubster's been trying to get diagnosis and treatment for a year and a half now. After last scan ( by a specialist), which showed an issue on thyroid, he was told, well, I will see you again in 6 months! WHAAAAT? Like you- I feel concern for what needs to be discovered and treated!
OH my goodness!! How frustrating! That is such a long time to have to wait for something so important! Thoughts and prayers for your sweet mom!!
Jennifer, I am sorry to read of this happening with your Mum. I hope her health will hold and not deteriorate quickly.
Goodness! How ridiculous!! Surely the professionals should know at the start just how long these things will take and will tell you accordingly so you don't have get all stressed out when it drags on this long! *shaking head* Sending you and your Mum big hugs Jennifer and hoping her health does not deteriorate in the mean time. xx
Exactly - would have been much better to give a realistic time frame last year so we didn’t have unrealistic expectations (not that we do, but it makes planning hard etc).
As good as she can, she will be seeing our family dr on Friday to see what can be done through him. She would have dealt with it today but I’ve asked her to support me at my hospital appointment
I’m so sorry this is happening! What a crazy amount of time! Hugs, this must be so stressful! I hope it ends up being sooner!!!
I know you are in a different country so medical is done differently, but perhaps you can ask if she can be on a waiting list as well for appt cancellations to put you in earlier. Sometimes unless you say something no one will do that and expect you to "accept" what they say. I hope she said she has waitied for almost a year now. I am saying prayers for your Mum @littlekiwi Jennifer.
That can happen here too, my mum is in a different situation though with having to swap work days/times around so she needs plenty of notice for her appointments if they aren’t on her two days off - so far she’s been lucky in that regard. She doesn’t mind waiting as such but 40 weeks is a teeny bit excessive
Wow! That is just an insane amount of time to wait for a test to be done! I hope an opening happens MUCH sooner and that it's on one of her days off.
The public system can be like that here too sadly but like someone else mentioned a phone call from a GP can move mountains compared to patient complaints so I hope that your family Dr is as horrified by the wait as you & can make something happen
