first of all....what a funny name Blue Tooth. Fun Facts for Wednesday! Bluetooth was borrowed from the 10th-century, second king of Denmark, King Harald Bluetooth; who was famous for uniting Scandinavia just as we intended to unite the PC and cellular industries with a short-range wireless link. Surprisingly, the name dates back more than a millennia to King Harald “Bluetooth” Gormsson who was well known for two things: Uniting Denmark and Norway in 958. His dead tooth, which was a dark blue/grey color, and earned him the nickname Bluetooth. The Bluetooth logo—that cryptic symbol in a blue oval printed on the box your phone came in—is actually the initials of Harald Bluetooth written in Scandinavian runes. So! I love it! I have it in my car for my phone, which is great for calls with my son's therapist. I also use it with headphones to listen to books when kids are home, or a nifty little blue tooth speaker. We have it in two rooms, hooked to an old kindle and pandora for music. Where do you BLUEtooth!??
I totally loved reading this and it was so intriguing! Thanks, Anne! I just got a new car, and now it has Bluetooth/CarPlay for Apple, and I love it! Dictating messages or talking on the phone is so much easier. Plus, connecting to Spotify for music is the best! We also have a bunch of Bluetooth speakers. Perfect for hanging out and playing music.
I had no idea! That's awesome! I use bluetooth keyboard and trackpad for my iMac. And bluetooth earbuds for my iPhone. I had some trouble with the first bluetooth headphones I tried -- getting them to stay connected -- but no problems since, and I love reducing the amount of wires I have to use.
Interesting information @AnneofAlamo ! Thanks for the history lesson. lol I use the Bluetooth in my car for phone calls. I wish I could send texts like @jk703 . That would be amazing! I also use Bluetooth for my headphones when I'm out for a walk/jog/run. I hate having to hold my phone or try to tie up wires.
Carrie... it's the best. BUT... lol, I had my siri as the UK version, so she had a British accent (I love the accent, I'm weird)... that didn't work so well when she read the messages and I couldn't understand her totally. Switched to default US.
Your history lessons always amaze me Anne! This summer, we had a lot of commute time. So, I subscribed to audible & the boys & I have been listening to the Harry Potter books in the car. My car radio does not work. So, I have a little mushroom looking bluetooth speaker, great sound quality! We are currently on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I love that the boys are into Harry Potter now!
In the car for everything (calls, music...) - at home mostly with a portable speaker for listening to music.
So fascinating, Anne! I'll think of that every time I see that symbol now. I use it on so many things - I love Bluetooth!
Love the insight. I don't bluetooth at all. Is that weird? I would rather get images emailed to me so I can download them onto my pc. No headphones, or anything like that. Am I missing out? Hubby has his on so his phone works in the car, my car is older and doesn't have that capability.
I use Bluetooth in the car, usually when driving long distances. I have a Bluetooth headset that I use in the kitchen. I like being able to have my phone in a same spot and a few podcasts I listen to are not safe for little ears! I also use it to connect my phone to my Echo. And my Fitbit uses it to update to my phone. In theory the laptop I have had Bluetooth. But I was fiddling with the settings and I think I deleted the driver. Oh well.
I've never used it for images or anything. I don't think you are missing out per se. If you often listen to headphones, and don't want to be tethered by the cord, it's an advantage. I usually only use mine in the kitchen, so I can keep my phone safe away from the food prep.
I love my Bluetooth headphones. I also use BT for a portable speaker; it's actually DH's but I use it sometimes. At the risk of sounding like an 18th century transplant to today's times...I'm afraid of using BT in my car. I just leave my phone in my purse, and I keep my purse on the passenger-side floor. That way I don't even hear it if it beeps.
So much of my life is BT! iPad keyboard, iMac mouse, track pad, keyboard. My car/phone connection. My portable speaker. Headphones. Some of our lights in our home. The tread climber can use BT to connect to some of our fitness apps. I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting ...
Only use Bluetooth for connecting my Fitbit with the app on my phone. Down the track I’d love to get a Bluetooth speaker to listen to Spotify at home.
I love Bluetooth! I use it in the car for talking on the phone, texting, listening to spotify, and watching movies/tv shows on my phone sometimes. My keyboard is bluetooth, also my speaker, fitbit, Apple Watch, and headphones. Mine is an Aussie male, too
I use BT in the car for my phone and we have a BT portable speaker at the house. I use it when I'm soaking in a bubble bath and want to listen to something but don't want my phone or ipad near the water. I love that I can turn up the speaker really loud so I can hear it over the jetted tub.
Before bluetooth everything, we had a regular GPS and I changed it to Aussie male too! There is a street in my town named William D Tate and he prounced it William the 500 Tate! So that's what I call it now.
I don't use it a whole lot. I did have a set of running headphones but I only used them a few times before they accidentally got washed! My son has the latest Cochlear Implants and they are Bluetooth enabled. He uses them to connect directly to the TV, computer or iPad. It's pretty sweet. Just turn on the Bluetooth and it goes straight into his CIs. Sometimes he accidentally leaves it on and he'll say, "Hey, who's doing stuff on the iPad I can hear it!"
