Spring Break | Pad Patter 3.25

The kids have this Friday and all of next week off from school, my husband and I have Friday and Monday off from work, and we're going to take vacation the rest of the week to be home with the kids. No travel plans this year; I suggested building another bedroom in the basement and my husband is running with it. We're going to do as much as we can while we're off. Our boys (14 and 9 years old) currently share a 10'x10' room, so this will be a new space for the teenager. I know we never do as much as we hope, but if we can get the really big stuff done this week -- tearing out cabinets, building walls and replacing floors -- the rest can be done in bits and pieces as we have time.

Olivia has Spring Break at her university March 12-16, and Daniel had his the following week, March 19-23. He actually had a planning day on the 16th, so he had a bit longer of a break when you factor that in along with the weekends.

We did NOTHING for either break, other than a bit of shopping and going out to eat. We spent a lot of time hanging out, watching TV and just recharging batteries to finish out the year.

we start Friday with our "snow" day. Just in case day! We will do Meals on Wheels with our seniors together, and lunch. Big Easter celebration on Sunday. Wednesday, the boys and I are headed up to see Whitley in Albuquerque. This is a maybe on his behavior. I think we are gonna go to the indoor pool in the city next to us one day, and do a bit of shopping. Games, library and hikes are all we have planned.

We had our Spring Break during my son's college break, March 2-9th. My dd is homeschooled and her outside classes were also on break that week. We went to Orlando, spent 4 days at the 2 Universal parks, spent a day at Kennedy Space Center, and a day just hanging out - playing mini-golf and eating. It was a fun time and I need to scrap those pictures!!

Our Easter weekend is going to be low-key, just an ordinary weekend. But the big news is that dd is getting her driver's permit today. I am surprised she is not up yet, begging to go to the DMV....

Our kids were out this past week. They go back to school tomorrow. In SFLO, the spring breakers come here. It's called "Season". It actually starts after Thanksgiving and the last of the spring breakers don't leave til early May. Our traffic is horrendous and for those of us who live here, it's a daily battle to go anyplace. BUT, because tourism is Florida's biggest economic source AND because of it, we don't have to pay state income tax, we *grin* and bear it. It's especially nerve wracking when we have to be somewhere at a certain time.
Cheryl hun, aren't those "snow birds" ? LOL I was just down at Universal in Orlando St Patrick's weekend. I was glad the park was not over crowded. I used to always go to Florida in May for Dad's Birthday and November for Thanksgiving when Dad was alive... he lived on the east coast in Merritt Island (next to Cocoa Beach)... I miss him and visiting so bad.

Bev looks like I missed you by a week :)

We had March 29th half day until April 6th... but snow changed that. They took 3 days of spring break back and now my kids are supposed to return to school on April 4th. Well... we already planned and paid for our vacation, so we are still going. The boys will have to make up the work when they return. Good thing the marking period ends tomorrow!

We are headed to Florida... Kissimmee. Though, we are not park goers, there is a lot to do, and see beyond that. We *might* go to Universal one day... we get super cheat tickets through DH's work. Another family is joining us, and I'm so excited!!! Plus, warmth, sun and 80 degrees! I'll take it!!!! We leave tomorrow morning, and I'm in countdown mode at work today! :giggle

So, our Spring Break is coming up :giggle

I giggle because it consists of this coming Friday and next Monday. Yep, 2 extra days is all we get, so there won't be any trips in my near future, or any kind of real plans. I usually pick some home project that needs to be done and do that. I'm still trying to decide what I want to do this year.

Anyone else have a Spring Break coming up? Have you already had it?
If it's not spring where you are, do you have any kind of break?
Any plans?
Ours was two weeks ago. My husband and son went scuba diving in Florida with boy scouts all week. My daughter and I took a quick 3 night trip to Galveston and enjoyed some quiet time at home just the two of us

Yes we have lots and lots of snow birds, Christa. They stay longer than the spring breakers. We live in a neighborhood of snowbirds. In the summer we have the place to ourselves. It's pretty sparse around here when they leave.

Spring break starts this-coming Friday and then all of the following week. DD and I have a show coming up (y'all will see pics in my LOs, I'm sure rofl!) but other than that we don't have any major plans. On April 7 I would LOVE to go to Connecticut and get a hotel for the night. I want to go to a flea market, but IDK if we can swing it cuz it's only on Sundays and it's hours away; I don't want to get home late and have cranky kids Monday morning.

Are you kidding me???? I was just in Connecticut, about an hour away from New Milford!! Had no idea about this flea market!!!! AAAGGGHHHH!!! Now I will have to plan another trip to Connecticut!!!!

Our schools here in Alpena will be on Spring Break next week. My gd called from South Carolina all excited because she will be going to Kentucky for Spring Break next week to spend time with her dad.

I guess we have spring break, but when your husband just retired every day is a break. We are leaving on Saturday and heading to Edisto Beach in SC to spend the week with our friends. I'm so tired of cold and snow and I can't wait to see the ocean again.

My kids had their Spring Break all this week. It was definitely NOT a break though. DD is on the crew (rowing team) and they wanted her up at the boathouse for practice at 6am - 8am everyday. It's a 30 min drive so that meant leaving the house at 5:30 am. Ugh. It was not fun. And then they wanted them back at the boathouse at 3:30 - 5:30 /6pm everyday.

This weekend we are all recovering from a very busy week and have decided to just stay home for Easter instead of traveling to be with extended family. It's all too much.

The snow this winter caused a lot of schools in the area to cut back on their Spring Break days off. We lost 2 days that we had to give back but they were able to take it from other days off and still preserved the break for the kids. Sorry to hear you only got 2 days Jan - but I hope you do enjoy the weekend!

I had a feeling you were talking about the Elephant Trunk. Just FYI it is kinda small. At least in my opinion. But they do have some really great vendors. Its really authentic and not retail junk - like some fleas. I'd try to have other things planned to do as well. The area is lovely though - CT is just so pretty with its quaint little villages and rolling hills and little country houses. Kent CT is a cute place to visit. Right near the Appalachain trail, Bull's Bridge and Kent Falls State Park.

@jenn mccabe thanks for the info! I have family about 30 min from the flea market so I'm hoping to get together for lunch or something. Other than the flea and hopefully that lunch, we don't have anything planned. (I've never been to CT so I don't know anything about the area (I only know where my family is thanks to Google maps lol). DH is outdoorsy so he'll love checking out the Appalachian trail or Kent Falls!

Ah, I didn't realize you had family near by ... I'm still buried in working FT internship, 4 classes and prepping for a job interview or I'd meet you at the flea if you go. Who knows maybe I can get my life together to stop by for an hour? Life is just so nuts at the moment! Let me know if you do go though ... OK?!

I'll definitely let you know! I actually signed DD up for a little sewing class for next Sunday, so it seems like a spring break flea trip is out. DH wants to wait until later this spring, but I want to go before the weather gets too hot. No reason to add "kids whining about being hot and thirsty" to our itinerary! ;)

You've got a lot going on! Yowsers! Good luck with all of it!

Harrison already had his break earlier this month (a week). Since he goes to a private Christian school, he gets several additional days off during Easter too. March is a great month for him!
