So, it's Read Across America day in celebration of Dr. Seuss' Birthday and we usually party big, LOL. Kids (elementary and pre-school) get to go to school in jammies and MS and HS kids get to read to the younger ones in their classes.

At my office (it's a Pediatrician's office), we decorate and dress up and have games for all of the kids who come in. We give out books normally at every checkup from 6 months to 5 years of age but today, we have volunteers reading to the kids in the waiting rooms all day.

Here's me (sort of) dressed up from a few years ago.

Do you celebrate this little holiday? Bonus points for photos!

Do you have a favorite Dr. Seuss story? What is it and why?

My 6 year old grandson's school dresses up every year. Here's a layout from a couple of years ago. (Don't judge me - it's a Becky Higgins Project Life layout. Hahahaha)

I thought you were going to ask us what is our favourite Dr Seuss story.
My favourite is " The Lorax"

Dr. Seuss is not that well known here because his books are not easily translated, I guess. But we LOVE him in my family. His books were reading material at bedtime for years.

I think "The Lorax" should be mandatory reading material for everybody.

I've not heard of it before. I'll mention it to the kids later, and maybe we'll get some Seuss poetry out to read.

We celebrated World Book Day on the 1st. Children, and adults who work in education/libraries/book shops etc, either go to school/work in PJs with a teddy and their favourite bedtime story, or dress up as their favourite book character.

This. And I feel like we're missing out as I happen to love Dr. Seuss.

Yep, I can see where it'd be difficult to translate... it's not really even English, LOL. Dr. Seuss loved his nonsense words :giggle

I adore Dr. Seuss!! I read Oh, The Places You Will Go to my high school students every year and have given it as a gift to my seniors for graduation! Last year, a friend of mine helped me do the huge bulletin board in the main hallway with that theme. It was so cool. I was looking to see if I had a picture of it, but I can't find one :(

Celebrating Dr. Suess on March 2 was barely beginning during the years I was teaching (late 90's) but I read a lot to my students, and later to my kids, because I just love reading aloud. I think my favorite Dr. Suess to read aloud was Fox in Socks. I'd read it so fast and it was very funny.

I like the Lorax because of the message in it.

DS's kindy class had a whole Seuss week. I don't have pics but I volunteered on Wednesday and I actually took photos of each child in a "thinking pose." The teacher was going to post them on the door, with a thought bubble above each child's head that said "Oh the things you think" and then the kids wrote down whatever they were thinking. Super cute and I can't wait for him to bring his "thinking pic" and thought bubble home! (Basically I can't wait to see what he was thinking about. He had to fill in the blank "If I were president..." and he finished that sentence with "I would eat chocolate." So what's he going to say when the prompt is simply "What are you thinking about?"!)

Aww, this reminded me of a page I did a bazillion (okay it was 5) years ago when my youngest was in preschool. They still celebrate at elementary school - in fact I think they are supposed to wear stripes or red and black on Monday.

Along this same thinking - I bought a copy of the book for DS when he was in kindergarten. I will gift it to him as a high school grad present. Every year, I have his classroom teacher secretly sign the book. So when he receives it, it will also have words of support or inspiration from his teachers.

We also love Dr. Seuss in our house, don't really dress up or celebrate, but I make sure we pull out our full library and read them specifically during this month. Fox in Socks is a favorite and I quote some Green Eggs and Ham when I'm trying to entice the kids to try some new food!

I love everything Dr. Suess he's my birthday twin!!!! I love that our schools here have a month long reading challenge in honor of him too!!!

I absolutely love this idea!!! Too late for my son to start with Kindergarten, but he starts high school next year and that might be a fun place to start! Thanks for sharing!

So... The dress up day was Friday! Mom Fail!! :duh I mentioned to my daughter not to let us forget about dressing up on Monday and she was like, that was Friday mom! Luckily she is my free spirit and it didn't bother her at all to be left out.

We've never celebrated his birthday. I don't think it was a thing when my kids were little (or maybe I just missed it!).

My favorite Dr. Seuss book as a kid.... Happy Birthday to You! I so wanted all of it to happen on my birthday!!! I used to love to read Fox in Sox as a kid, but dreaded it every time my kids asked for it to be read aloud... it's a tough one (beetles having battles in a bottle on a poodle eating noodles... lol!).

No holiday here and my children grew up overseas so Dr. Seuss wasn't part of those years. However, one book I did like as a child and gave to my first husband before we married was "Horton Hatches the Egg" for this quote

"“I meant what I said and I said what I meant." That is pretty much what my 2nd husband and children understand. If Mama says it, that's what she means. Not a lot of waffling round here.

We were in Dr Seuss land several times this week at Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando. I may have to scrap this one tomorrow... We even rode the Cat in the Hat ride, but skipped One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
My three: baby girl 16, oldest son 26 in car, and youngest son almost 21 running away.
