1983.
I remember this day. Well, evening. I was working at Montgomery Wards. We had every television on in electronics. Every employee was standing watching. Tears flowed.
It was the most watched tv program in history. There was not ONE customer in the store.
Strange how a TV show had so much pull.
Do you remember?

Yep. I lived in Toledo then. The local news had a special on following the episode live from Tony Packo's restaurant which was absolutely packed to watch the episode.

I chose to stay home so I could actually see the episode. I had a VCR and taped it as well. Of course, that is long gone.

I sort of remember, but I had other things on my mind -- my wedding in about 94 days. I do remember the bittersweet feelings. Glad for them, sad for me as the show was ending.

Yes, yes, and I remember Monkey Wards too!

I remember MASH fondly. But, not the first airing, or was this the last airing? More of watching with my parents, and the characters. :)

My Dad always had it on. One of his faves! I enjoyed it, but was more into later on as I got older. I wasn't quite a teen yet when it first aired.

We are watching this every night now as it is on one of the tv channels. :) I remember.

I remember it well and it was so sad to see this amazing series end for good. That music still gets to me.

I do remember both Mash's final episode. I know I was in shock...

RE: Montgomery Wards. Did your store have a Wendy Ward program? It was for pre-teen & teen girls, teaching them posture, putting on makeup, etc. I had no self-esteem as a kid and my mom signed me up. (I do have decent posture as a result. :-)) At the end of each program, you participated in a modeling show. It was fun. But what I really remember was going to the café that they had and treating myself to their lemon meringue pie. It was the best!

Yeah, I remember that day all too well. I was watching the finale with a group of friends when I received a phone call that my cousin had been killed in a car accident. It took me until a couple of years ago to actually watch the entire episode all the way through.

But I simply adored that show. My whole family did.

I do remember both MASH and MW. We "HAVE" to watch every military related show, lol! It became a weekly and then daily thing, lol.
SO, those of you who remember Montgomery Wards, do you remember Woolworth's???

I was 13, but don't remember this . . . probably because anything remotely having to do with politics or war was NOT interesting to me. Later on, when the series really hit re-run status, I started watching more. It's always so bittersweet when a series ends.

I still cry when I watch the last episode - and the episode where Henry Blake leaves, saddest episode ever- such a great show!

I was lucky enough to get to go see Alan Alda live last year - he was talking about science communication which he is a huge advocate for - he still managed to slip in a couple of MASH stories though - it was wonderful just to be in the audience.

I grew up with it! I was about 6 when it started and I was 17 when it ended. I dearly loved M*A*S*H. I remember the end and I remember bawling. I have thought about it many times in recent years as my oldest son is trained as an Army Combat Medic.

I was only 3 at the time it aired, but I LOVE to watch reruns with my husband! The sound of the theme song reminds me of watching tv in the evenings with my late grandpa. My aunt says she doesn't ever remember him watching that show, but for some reason, that music takes me back to when he was still with me. Funny how songs do that...thanks for sharing this, @AnneofAlamo!

This is one of my all time favorite shows. I don't know if I watched the finale live or not, but I think so? I know that I watched it with my Dad and that's probably why I have such fond memories of it. My Dad was in Vietnam and always explained his role in the Army as being like Corporal Klinger. I wonder if my boys would like that show... it would be super fun to watch it with them.

And yes I remember Woolworths! @AJK I remember whenever we'd go to Chicago (about once a year as a family) by parents would give us some rare cash to spend and we'd go from block to block and go into every Woolworths because they had cheap Wet-n-Wild makeup and nailpolish for 99 cents so we could buy more stuff for our money. Lol!

Growing up, we lived about 1 1/2 miles away from a shopping area, and it had a Woolworth's. On Wednesdays, we had 1/2 day of school, so a group of us would walk, go to the library, go to Woolworth's. Apart from the inexpensive stuff, I remember their lunch counter. There I would treat myself to a root beer & French fries. Hmmmm.... There seems to be a pattern with me and store cafes.
