People Watching | Pad Patter 2.25

Oh I love people watching too. I have to admit I am a little judgy, but not in a mean way, and I do try not to be. But there are some very strange people out there!
I also love seeing people I know from stores I go to out of their uniforms and wearing what they love. Today for example I saw a girl from our game shop. When she is in uniform, it is a straight skirt, work shirt, black stockings, black shiny shoes, minimal makeup, and tidy hair. Today she was wearing a bright orange floaty dress, long brown jacket, colourful sock and big clunky shoes. Was weird and cool to see her out of uniform.

That's so fun! I love seeing people "out of their element" or where I'm used to seeing them, too :)

One of the most fabulous places I ever went and was absolutely fascinated with watching people was my trip to Hollywood. I went with 4 other girls to a convention and on our one day off they wanted to go to Hollywood. We were standing in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater taking photos and, WOW, some strange people were walking by!! One girl just kept snapping photos of them and I had to tell her to cool it, that what she was doing wasn't polite. She needed to ask if it was ok to take their photo. I mean she was shoving the camera right in their faces!! I was afraid someone was going to take a swing at her!!!
These girls were so naïve that when I took them to the corner of Hollywood and Vine, (yeah, I know!! But that is where they wanted to go!!!) one girl got out of the car and started looking up and down the streets. I asked her what she was looking for and she said "Where is the big white HOLLYWOOD sign?" (sigh----tourists!!!!! :cornfused )

I LOVE to people watch too! When we were first married we could go to the local shopping mall and just sit and watch people for the evening. We were so broke we couldn't even afford to go out to a restaurant for dinner, every extra penny was being saved for when we were going to build our house. No complaints those were some of our best dates, just being together the two of us.

Generally, no, I don't. If I'm in public, I'm probably with one or both of my kids and I'm concentrating on what they're doing and saying. On the very rare occasion I'm not out with one or both of them, I'm probably on a quick errand to or from someplace.

I don't remember the last time I was able to be out and about without a timeframe or deadline.

I have a bad back that makes it hard for me to do a lot of walking. So when I go shopping with my husband and daughter I often end up waiting in the car while they are in stores where I know they will be looking around for a while. Because of this I have become a people watcher and I love it.

This one day there was a young lady who was walking down a sidewalk in the parking area. I don't know how old she was...maybe high school or college age. She was a little overweight and was wearing a skirt that hit about halfway between her knees and waist. She had on a Mary Jane type shoe, I can't remember if they were low heals of flats, and her stockings came to just below her knee....knee highs like school girls wear sometimes. I think she was wearing almost every color of the rainbow. And her hair was in these little ponytail things, that kind of stuck up, with very colorful and noticeable bow thingies on them. I found myself looking at her and thinking....how can she go out looking like that!!!! Did she really look in the mirror and like what she saw before she left home???? What is she thinking!!! But as I watched her walk further away from where I was sitting, I began to smile. I noticed the bounce in her step. She was walking with total confidence. A girl who knew who she was and where she was going. She was definitely marching to her own drum. A free spirit. And I totally admired her for it!! I felt like my heart was smiling for her and I soooooo wish I had grabbed my camera and taken a photo of her!! She was a wonderful, whimsical walking rainbow and she totally brightened my day. I still smile when I think about her walking down that sidewalk. And if I had taken her photo, she would definitely be on a scrapbook page!! :)

I love that!!! :heartslub

Absolutely! I love watching people!

I also love taking a walk just as the light is starting to fade. People still have their blinds or curtains open and you can see the lights inside and them moving about. I'm not really interested in what they are doing, it's just I get a crazy amount of comfort by seeing that warm light spilling onto their front lawns and it just looks perfect and cozy - even though of course I know it probably isn't. I guess it makes me think of family and home and happy things.

But yeah, hubby thinks I'm a weirdo for wanting to slow down to peer into windows. LOL

Lol @gonewiththewind maybe the naming fairy should have given you my tag line :giggle

I have never asked to photograph anyone, but we've been asked numerous times by a stranger of they can photograph my daughter. This usually happens in 1 of 2 situations:

1- a young Asian girl on vacation in the United States who is SO excited to see a blonde little girl
2- my daughter is in costume and the person wants a picture of her costume

I usually do say yes, but I can always tell that the person is somewhat scared to ask me if they can take a picture of my child.

We've had Asian people ask if they can get a photo with our kids when we've been on vacation. All my kids are red-heads. I guess they don't see very many redheads in that part of the world... hehe

I love people watching! I people watch all the time, especially when hubby takes me to a game - football, basketball, baseball. I'd rather people watch than watch sports, so that's what I do and we're both happy. He's happy I went with him and I'm happy to be with him and people watch.

Haha! We've traveled to Hollywood (and area) often because we have family in the area and I love watching the tourists! Since my parents used to live a few miles away, they refer to it as Holly-Weird because you never knew who or what you'd see! It's always interesting to get out there.

I absolutely love people watching! I think that's one of my favorite things about living in the city... I can people watch all of the time. I find myself just watching out my front windows occasionally... such a bustle of activity from regular people going off to work, the school children in their uniforms, the dog walkers, to the preschool around the corner who take the kids out for a walk past our house (tiny teeny children, holding onto a rope, parading past). Saturday night we could hear these big cheers randomly erupting from somewhere near our house. When we went up to bed, we looked out the window and could see that two doors down, they were playing giant Jenga on their deck. I will confess that we got caught up in watching longer than we probably should have! lol!

I also love seeing people I know from stores I go to out of their uniforms and wearing what they love.

Yes! I had that happen the other day with my UPS driver. I'm used to seeing him everyday in his brown uniform and was so shocked to see him in regular clothes one day, that I didn't even recognize him!

People still have their blinds or curtains open and you can see the lights inside and them moving about.

I love this too! I do it less now to see the people and more to see the rooms. So many different architectural styles and design styles here, that it's fun to see how people have decorated. My favorite for this was when we lived in a mid-rise over by the lake that had floor to ceiling windows.... there was another mid-rise like ours across the street and a high rise a block down that also had floor to ceiling windows! Who needed a TV? We saw some pretty interesting things.

I people watch all the time, especially when hubby takes me to a game - football, basketball, baseball. I'd rather people watch than watch sports, so that's what I do and we're both happy.

I do this too!! It's funny when we get home and talk about the game, it's almost like we were at two different events! :giggle

I'm a people watcher also... life would be boring without! :-)

Oh, yes! I remember a trip to NYC to meet up with my scrapping friends and we were taking pictures of people that were sleeping in Times Square.

@GlazeFamily3 OMG, your post reminded me of Jim Gaffigan talking about taking his kids to China. Skip to about 1:40 if you want to hear the story and then see a little video he took.

For sure!!! One guy in China was even brave enough to ask me to pose with him in a picture on his camera. My husband teased me a lot that he was showing it around to people as his "new wife".
