One of my favorite reasons to go anywhere in public is to people watch! I am so fascinated by and curious about people! I have always said that if I hadn't gone in to teaching, I would have studied psychology, because people just fascinate me. I took several psychology courses as electives in college.

I don't do it in any sort of judgmental way at all! It's all just being curious about people and always trying to be more understanding of everyone.

Are you a people watcher?

No doubt about it! People are so wonderful and fascinating! I have stopped people and asked if I could photograph them. No one has ever refused. They usually break out in a big smile.

Yup, another people watcher here! I say this as I sit on a break at work, watching people around the building. I loved visiting London and Paris with those sidewalk cafes, get something to eat and just watch all the people!
I took a few sociology classes in college and even remember a homework assignment once was to people watch and write about our observations.

I love watching people too.. It is fun too when you are waiting in the airport for your flight to depart. People are definitely interesting. I often imagine what they do for a living... Just fun to do when you can't do much else while waiting!

Same with me! And I DID earn my B.A. in psychology. I knew from the start I didn't want to be a psychologist though; I'd just cry with my patients. So after my degree, I earned a teaching credential. Psychology is still one of my favorite subjects though, and I'm very much a people-watcher.

YES! Disneyland is my favorite place to people watch. I think it's so fun to watch the magic in everyone's eyes as they walk thru the park. Then, at the end of they day, everyone looks like zombies. All of the parents trying to stagger out while holding their sleeping children that are too heavy to hold. Haha!

After I graduated from college I was working in a large city. I lived very close to a mall (this was in the 70's). I would go over there quite often and not to shop. Since there were lots of benches throughout to sit on, I would get me a Baskins-Robbins ice cream and sit and people watch.

5 years ago I went to stay with cousin in Orlando. Due to an unexpected thing coming up for my cousin's wife that meant we couldn't spend the day together the day before I was leaving, she dropped me off at WDW in the morning. My cousin was going to come over when he finished with work that evening so we could spend some time together. Late afternoon, I went back to Main Street and sat on the porch of the "city hall" for several hours. I could see the parade for a 2nd time and watch all the people coming and going (besides giving my feet a rest). Loved it!

I have never asked to photograph them, but I should! I do stop people and talk to them all the time!

I do this, too! Sometimes for fun DH and I will sit around watching people and make up whole life stories about them LOL

I think you experience a lot of empathy for others when you people watch!

I have never asked to photograph anyone, but we've been asked numerous times by a stranger of they can photograph my daughter. This usually happens in 1 of 2 situations:

1- a young Asian girl on vacation in the United States who is SO excited to see a blonde little girl
2- my daughter is in costume and the person wants a picture of her costume

I usually do say yes, but I can always tell that the person is somewhat scared to ask me if they can take a picture of my child.

I love people watching. Like others have mentioned, it's fun to sit at a cafe (or wherever) in a new city or while on vacation and just people watch. I like to look at the fashions and just listen as people walk by.

When I go on my photography trips, I always carry permission slips with me. To take a child's photo, I explain that they may go up on the computer and the mother (or whoever is in charge of the child) must sign a permission slip allowing me to use their child's photo.

That's a great idea!
