What is Superbowl Sunday?

Admittedly, I am not much of a football fan. However, it would be nice for someone besides the Patriots to win once in a while. DH went to grad school in Philly so he'll be cheering for Eagles for sure.
This made me laugh. In Pittsburgh, we call them the Cheaters.

I used to watch NFL football all the time but lately, I have gotten away from it. My feelings about the sport have changed and I'm no longer the fan that I was. Considering the teams that were in it, I really had no interest in it at all.

That being said, I didn't turn on the game until 2:12 left in the 4th quarter... kept it on to see the "Cheaters" as @djp332 calls them (I agree) lose. I had no internet otherwise I would have just looked the score up online.

I was watching Worst Cooks in America and doing a jigsaw puzzle. Much more enjoyable.

OK, I am going to be the wet dish rag in the group. First of all, there isn't a "sports" gene anywhere in my body. OOPS, can't say that. I use to bowl. Anyway, I was watching all the hoopla on the Weather Channel with Jim Cantore yesterday morning. He was outside the stadium. He interviewed someone about the cost of the stadium and all the perks built in. Then there was a talk about the cost of tickets. Now throw in the advertisements, what it cost to hire Justin Timberlake, the cost of security---I could go on and on; and you are looking at billions of dollars!!!!! Almost instantly, only one sentence danced through my head, and that was ---"how many kids in America will go to bed hungry tonight?" Me? the only sports I would be interested in is "The Lily Pad Bowl"!! OK, getting down off my soap box!!!:backing:hide

@NancyP you have a point but it is a great thing for the cities that host it. Brings in lots of visitor $$$$$. Even locals will attend festivities outside of the game itself. And, since it brings in a lot of celebrities that have the $$$$ to spend, let them spend those $$$$! I would venture to guess that the majority of that crowd are not regular NFL fans. They are there to say, hey I was at the SuperBowl and have the money to get them there.

As for me, I wouldn't spend a dime on attending one of these events mostly because I wouldn't enjoy it because of the large crowd. I couldn't even handle a small crowd at a local football game because of my tinnitus. I zoned out and shut down within an hour.

OK, here's my suggestion. Any HUGE attraction like the Superbowl must contribute 10 percent of their profits to charity!!!! YEAH!!!! :banana

I'm with you Nancy. The amount of money we spend on entertainment in this country is ridiculous.

I just don't get it. Everyone is screaming "Oh please, entertain me!!!!" When I was a kid, it was a day at the swimming hole, or playing tin can police man. We entertained ourselves!!! We all had bikes, roller skates, you name it! Now it's Disney World, or Universal Studios or THE SUPERBOWL!!!!! My granddaughter and husband are struggling with 5 young children. So what did they do for Christmas for them?? Took them from Michigan to Florida to go to Universal Studios. NO presents of any kind. Just the trip. Now they are home and what do the kids have to play with???? Do you realize what they could have brought with that money besides five brand new bikes???? Blows my mind!!!!! Oops, I am on my soap box again, aren't I????

I was born in Philadelphia and dh lived there for a while so...Even though neither of us care about football one way or another (I'm still a Liverpool fan!) Dick usually watches some of the game, I make him chile and I get to eat Doritos.

Last night our Direct tv flipped out in the late 3rd quarter, so Dick went to bed, I read my book and only when I planned to go to bed, remembered the tv was still on. When I went to turn it off, I saw that the signal had come back. Yawn.

Around here if the Packers aren't playing in it, there's not the same level of excitement. DH watched the game and I just asked for score updates because I was scrapping and converting templates. As a former PA resident, I was happy that the Eagles won.

I'm much more excited about the Winter Olympics starting this week. I am a total Olympics freak. I will watch coverage of just about any Olympics sport.

I still don't understand why you guys call that sport "football" since it's played with hands... Whereas what you call "soccer" (aka the real football, lol) is actually played with the feet... it makes no sense to me...

Lol @lou ...now I love America, but will be the first to admit, our words are confusing. We park in our driveways, drive on parkways...lol.
