What do you wake up to? The sun, crying kids, pets, alarms, other...?

I hit snooze 3 or 4 times this morning & am a bit over that default marimba sound but usually I hear DH's vibration alarm setting well before mine. DD was in a mood & stomping around last night & managed to break her roller blinds so she woke early to sun today #consequences Hoping not to be woken this weekend by the usual neighbour lawnmower noise

Usually I just wake up when I've had enough sleep, with the sun rising outside my eastern-facing windows. But if I need to use an alarm, it's usually a Pentatonix song.

Is it wrong that this made me giggle? It's exactly what I'd think if my child did the same thing!

I used to wake up to hearing DH walking on the staircase that's right behind my headboard. I have asked him to use the other staircase, but he forgets. So just last week I may have gone a little nutsy cuckoo and asked him in a more, how shall we say, not-nice way to use the front freaking stairs. He hasn't forgotten since. :)

So now I wake up to DS slamming open the doors to my room and begging for oatmeal. To be fair, DS came in every day asking for oatmeal before the staircase change, but I was already awake and having an existential crisis. Anyway, I know get 10 more min of sleep, which doesn't seem like much but I like those extra 10 min! They help ward off ennui caused by lack of sleep. Seriously: I need sleep. Sometimes DS just gets himself a bowl of cereal so I'm lucky enough to wake up to the dulcet tones of my neighbor's teen's revved-up Mercedes(!) that he likes to gun before pulling out of their driveway. Who knew my nice neighborhood was also for pre-dawn luxury sedan drag racing?! :banghead

My hubby is always up early and leaves for work earlier than me, so I usually wake up when he heads for the shower.

Sometimes when I need to use the alarm I wake up before it goes off... other times it wakes me up. I can be dreaming and think that the noise of the alarm is in my dream until I realise it is real !

well this made me giggle so we are even! (And sympathy re: the Mercedes - our lawn obsessed neighbour also has a harley davidson that he idles for a while before revving away on and all we can think is he gets up at the crack of dawn to go get petrol to put in his lawn mowing and trimming equipment every.second.day!)

oh this! this just throws my brain right out and it takes me longer to wake up and figure out what's real and what's not! Sometimes it gets towards lunchtime and i have a moment where i have to think ' is this still the dream?'!

glad that works for you - i think i'd just end up laying there listening to it rather than getting started with the day and y'know one song'd roll into the next... i think that goes against the idea of an alarm LOL

Oh, we have a next-door neighbor with a custom built Harley. But he is so super considerate with the time. Come to think of it, he usually doesn't start idling his bike until mid-morning and he's usually he's home by dinnertime. It's probably why I don't even think of his riding as a "nuisance"! But that whole "up early to pick up petrol" thing made me laugh...although it probably makes you want to scream!

The 2 days a week I work (tuesdays & wednesdays) my alarm goes off at 6:25! I get up & out of the house before anyone else usually. On the remaining weekdays- the kids wake me up around 730 to help them get off to school. On weekends, lately we've been up crazy early for saturday 6am hockey practices, which usually means we (hubs & I) sleep in on Sunday. The kids aren't allowed to wake us up before 8! It's pretty sad that 8am is sleeping in tho! lol!

Phone alarm. I get excited when I set it and it tells me I have over 7 hours to sleep! Sleep is a precious commodity around here.

Garry snoring....always. However, the other day it was a neighbors dog that woke me up because it scared Fatty who was sleeping on my legs and he scratched me...that dog barked for a good 45 mins at 3:00 AM!

Whenever my body tells me it is time to get up. Being retired does have its perks.

Normally though it is anywhere between 7 and 8 this winter. When I first retired last August, I was getting up before 7 every day because it was light out. Once the days got shorter I started sleeping later.

However, there are nights when a certain puppy barks to go outside. Yes, I'm talking in the middle of the night. So we get up, she goes out, I do my bathroom stop, let her back in and we got back to bed. I can usually go back to sleep.

Monday morning it was 4 a.m. We went back to bed and I just laid there. Couldn't go back to sleep. So I got up and dressed at 6:00.

Phone alarm here... Every weekday morning at 5am! Right now it plays Thunder by Imagine Dragons to wake me up. I have to have something loud, but I never ever hit snooze. It makes me all out of sorts if I don't get up as soon as it goes off. On the weekends, it's usually the daylight that wakes me....I'm up by 7 or so at the latest.

It can't go on to another song. It's the regular iPhone alarm app. So if I listen to the complete song, it starts over the same song from the beginning. And yes, sometimes I do that, but not in the morning. I use alarms for things like reminding me to pick up my kids from activities; that's the kind of time I tend to listen to the entire song before canceling the alarm.

It's usually one of my alarms. I have the phone alarm set so I can get up and ready for work at a normal (albeit still sleepy) pace. I also have a fitbit that has a vibration alarm. That's my "get out of bed now or you'll be really late" alarm.
On my days off, I only get a little more sleep before my toddler comes and climbs into bed. Which means dragging all her prized loveys and a baby doll and climbing over me to sandwich between me and DH. There's no sleep after that because every noise = "what's that" even though it's the same sounds every day/week!

School/work days lately it's to hubby's alarm at 0530 because it's tax season and he's super busy, then my phone goes off with that cute little piano riff when you set your "bedtime" alarms at 0600.... weekends I want. to. sleeeeeep. but something invariably wakes me up.

I don't set an alarm.. I automatically wake up at 4am. :) tonight I didn't think I would make the chat as I was tired. I fell asleep and poof at 8:45 pm I woke up in time for the chat.. gotta go back to sleep now as my eyes are closing and I will wake up at 4am again!
