Those little reminders...

OHHHHH my!!! you guys (I am singing the Legally Blonde opening song in the musical right now in my head!!!!!)
OH my God.... I don't like using the God name superficially, but in this case.... you guys fill my heart with love, in all manners possible!!!!!!!! the pages, I have been so inspired this past few weeks, and the way this community, this AWESOME family interacts make me feel happy, hurt less, laugh more.....
I could make a post just to tell you how much I love each & everyone of you.

I took a bite of a peppermint flavored salt water taffy one day and it was an instant trip back to my childhood! Just like that! I was back in Salt Lake City at Christmas time with my family in my great Aunts' home. The memories just flowed thru me so fast and so vivid. It was such a delightful experience. The smell of cucumbers, sliced onions and vinegar takes me back to dinners with my grandparents and great grandparents. Potatoes and gravy, roast beef, and my great grandma's dinner rolls. And the smell and taste of watermelon takes me back to times with my Dad's brother and his family and our summer vacations together. I love these little trips back thru time to such wonderful places!

oh!!!! you are bringing up some memories to me too now!!!!! we used to have family (HUGE family!) holidays together, summer , 3 months, my paternal Grandad built a house a block from the beach, you could see the beach from the second floor and it was a less than 2 minutes walk..... we had to move to the mountains when my brother was born with respiratory problems..... but the beach will always speak childhood happiness to me!!!! with food, there is so much, I could be here for ever...now gravy is something I only "got" the concept here in England, and it was one of my sisters in law who taught me how to make it yummy, we don't see much of each other these days (she lives in the other end of town) so it is always a memory of her and early 90sw to me!!!

Whenever I think of London or South America I think of @MrsPeel, whenever I’m struggling in pain or with health issues I often think of @MrsPeel again or @gonewiththewind. Whenever I think about Vancouver, Canada or going to a scrapping retreat (where I met Rae) I think of @bcgal00

Like Cheryl said...not that I want anyone to hurt, much less you, but it is a comfort to know we are not alone, and to have someone we know will understand what we are going through...... also, I don't think I have ever said this, but if you want to moan, whine or just put it all out when you are hurting or had a bad day (I know the simple fact of not being able to find a place to park in hospital can wreck my day with my blood pressure going up to the 200s!) pm, me, call me on Facebook, I will try be here as soon as possible to listen and moan with you, or show you the good side of the day..there is ALWAYS a good side!!!!!!!!

Smells:
Carmex (I have his last tube that I finished off that I cannot bring myself to throw away), pipe tobacco and wood shavings will ALWAYS and forever remind me of my dad...
The smell of coffee always remind me of my hubby, he works for a coffee company!
Aqua di Gio reminds me of my ex...thankfully it's not popular anymore LOL
The perfume Poison will always remind me of my mom.

Songs:
Any Willie Nelson song will always remind me of my dad.
Gary Allan's song Best I Ever Had and GNR will always remind me of my hubby.
Acon's song Don't Matter will always take me back to my pregnancy with Rileigh...she would stomp on my bladder anytime that song came on!
A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera's song Say Something will always remind me of Sonnet
Elvis songs will always remind me of my mom

I didn't know Carmex until, Sarita was in college!!! we don;t have that make in South America , at least not in my time and... Can I move next door to you?!!!!! Coffee!!!!!!! I don't like English coffee LOL Starbucks it too expensive. LOL
Aqua di Gio!!!!!!!! that takes me back to some of my friends in Rio!!! true that I don;t see it much around these days, but I loved it!!!
My aunt Sara (we named Sarita after her) gave me an Opium when I was in my teens, she traveled a lot, gave me that hang in your neck little bottle and since, I would use it for winter...remember the name Poison but can't remember the smell...!!!
Now songs..... we will be here till the cows come home with the list I have LOL
LOL at bladder stomping in pregnancy.... Sarita didn't quiet stomp, but I think she danced with Home & Away tune (Aussie soap famous here) and she would instantly dance when she was able to sit after a few month !!!!!

there are many things that remind me of you.... but Christmas tress will always remind me of the awesome fighter you are!!!!!!

We were just talking about the smells & memories thing today at work! There was a certain disinfectant the first office I worked at used & we got some today. TOTAL memories!

Also- My mom was a finance manager for car dealerships my entire childhood & she always had a new 'demo' or loaner car from work. But she also ALWAYS made me car sick- SO new car smell now INSTANTLY makes me carsick! lol! :D

my first job in an office, when I finished secondary school, I was 17 and already singing and in musicals but doing a course for the exam to get in Uni, my mum dressed me up, straighten my hair (I was a bit of a hippie and loved wearing my grandmother's clothes from the 40's!!!) and sent me to work at one of my cousin's shops office, I ended up working in a warehouse, full of fabric being cut there, so the smell of new fabric and sound of cutting machines always means office to me!!!!

We change cars every 3 years.... I LOVE the smell of new car!!!!!!! do you wait to get in the car when you get a new one? For you I would love to created a deodorant that make it smell not new...but I would love to get one that makes it smell new all the time, I think I would look after the car more LOL

@MrsPeel - I love that "our song" stuck with you! :wub

The Pad, and you especially, have such a huge place in my heart, I would be here forever trying to explain...... I used to watch and love Cheers, I remember being in love with Ted Danson and trying to find re runs late at night when working at the airports night shift as we had a TV room..... but the minute you mentioned the song for The Pad....it so much fits, it is "alive" I think..... it will forever be the meaning of the song.....

I hate you have pain/health issues, but I agree, when I'm feeling alone and scared and tired and hurting, it's a comfort to know that I'm not struggling alone. Not that I want y'all to hurt, as I often pray for y'all, but it encourages me to know that y'all are doing it, too, and making it, and then I know I can do it, too! ((HUGS))

same.
with you, it will take a whole day to explain how you make come to a realization of Faith with an answer quiet a while ago.... there are lots of scrappers who helped me out from my spiritual down spiral and got me out breathing with so much Faith and Hope, but @AnneofAlamo , you & Vivie (from ViVas) are the ones I think and grabbed strongly to hold me when I feel falling again

Fairy gardens make me think of @lmccandless. Every time I see that stuff on sale, I think of her.

Napa, Bodega Bay, & cheeseburgers grilled on a car make me think of @AnneofAlamo.

Funny Southern stuff makes me think of @gonewiththewind @Danyale. I never did buy that Kentucky Fried Chicken candle!

Avocado recipes make think of @Lena Gardner & I feel so guilty every single time I let an avocado go rotten.

There's tons of stuff I associate with @MrsPeel. I'm not kidding, I don't know how many times I've bragged on her about all the languages she speaks (but always apologizes for).

I'm sure there's more, but that's what's coming to my head right now.

Oh sister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember so so well when I discovered you and how much fun, how much of that recognition feeling, the feel that someone in the other side of the world, an entirely different world and yet, so alike me...... and with the years , your pages, your way being here as such an amazing member opf this family, this love grew and keep growing..... one of my most wished travels would be to go Cali to meet you in person!!!!!!!!!!!
There are so, so many things that remind me of you every day, but whenever I have a conversation with someone about Latin, I tell them all about you!!!!!!

bhahaha I don't grill them on a car, I keep them warm on the dashboard! lol it is 108 outside and about 150 on the dash of my van! you make me smile...

LOVE you :rofl:rofl

i was thinking this the other day! it's like if i leave the computer, even for a second, to go to the shops and such, it's like the universe is telling me i really need to go home...

:luvya I want one of those!!!!!!!!! :rollin

Bwahahaha! Me too @jesskab Seriously, if we had one I would be wanting to eat fried chicken all the time. Speaking of which, missing right now as they don't really do the fried thing up here in Sicily. Lol!

now I want KFC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whenever I hear about South Africa and running out of water, I think of @Eyeore :cry:pray
I also think of her when I see Winnie the Pooh though. :thumbsups

the running out of water breaks my heart as it is a problem hugely in Brazil, and probably as huge here in the UK, the feeling of being more then powerless about doing something
but South Africa, any news or something I see , a proudct or a movie , bring back Stefanie @Eyeore who has taken me traveling with her amazing pages, allowed me to be a bit part of her family and grow to love not only her pages but her presence here which always, always lift my spirits!
and also KimB!!!! she was one of the first people I met on scrapping thousands of years ago LOL

Winnie the Pooh... to me is Sarita.
Our kitchen is plagued by cups and bowls and...ohhh the stuff that is chipped or even almost broken and she doesn't let me throw away!!!!!!! :giggle

okay, funny, I was in a skit with our drama troupe at church...it was called dancing with the devil, and I was Carmen MIranda...and well, I thought of @MrsPeel thru my whole chica chica boom chic dance! I just could see Cynthia, with fruit in her head, a cute top and boom boom! lol here is a page of the outfit

oh you do know how much I LOVE YOU, right?????????
Like I mentioned above, you are such a huge presence in my heart, you were the one taking my hand to Art Journal, and showing me the way out of the dark, and will never ever forget how you reached out and spoke to me when I was having problems with Sarita....
I talk about you to all my non scrappers friends....
there are so many things that are "YOU" in my every day, will be here (again LOL) till the cows come home to list them!!!!!

Thanks @bestcee the water situation is critical - they talk of us not having water from April some time, we desperately need the rain.

Coffee is synonymous with @cfile.

like I mentioned above :( so heart breaking..... the water problem :(

you have been my guide around South Africa and around your family life, you know how much I admire you and have you in my heart!!!!!!

and yes about Christa LOL to me is @cfile and @Danyale with the coffee!!!!!!!!!!!

yes
everytime I open a bag of Starbucks, the aroma hits and Christa is on my heart!

YES!!!!!!!!!

Aww so sweet Anne.. XO

yes to the coffee and......well, no need for me to fill entire pages about how much reminds me of you, and how much space you have in my heart...... the most amazing support, friendship and the ability to get through problems, even (or even more precisely because) we have had disagreements but worked them out and the love and admiration kept growing...... the meaning of true friendship....

but also Harry Potter!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :giggle I talked so much about you when we went to the exhibition, at some point Sarita started going...yeah mum, we know, Christa made a page about this!!!!!! :giggle

YAASSS!! Please be my neighbor!!!! I have heaps of coffee to share LOL!! I'd have even more if I had a regular drip machine!

I remember Opium too, I had a friend who wore that one! It always smelled better on her than it did me!

Isn't it funny to look back on pregnancies and remember how we could get them to move around or even play their favorite songs after they were born when all else failed to calm them down, sometimes it worked, and other times not so much, but it was always nice to have another option!

Speaking of Christmas trees, I was window shopping on one of my favorite apps VarageSale and someone posted a free tree so I was able to snag that up the first week in January, and the other day I went back to Big Lots for a little space heater and I scored 5 boxes of ornaments and a star tree topper for less than $8.00 in my old colors (reds, browns, gold/silver)!!!! I felt like a kid in candy store ROFL!!

do you wait to get in the car when you get a new one?

My car is a few years old, so no longer 'new' smelling, but when we got it I stole my son's room spray (eucalyptus oil & a few other oils for his asthma) and sprayed the carpet- that seems to be where most of the 'new car' smell comes from! ;)

true about the carpets!!!!!! maybe I just need to buy new carptes every 3 months or so LOL I could send you mine every time we get a new car :rofl

Oh it's the eyes, baby, it's the EYES! Pure devilish...

For once I'm kind of going blank but when I see afternoon sunlight coming in on a certain angle in the cool months of autumn or our kind of winter, I think of my maternal grandfather who used to take me across the street in PA to go mushroom picking with him. This is when I was 3 years old because he died when I was 3.5.

I do have another one...the scent of diesel fuel from a bus. When I smell this in the cold weather it is England all over for me. A good scent. When I smell diesel in the middle of summer, it's Thailand and the unbearable heat. Not such a good memory though I could still enjoy a month or so of eating in Thailand!

I was at a book sale yesterday and saw a copy of Don Quixote, which reminded me of Tracie @tkradtke :) We talked about books and how we are trying to read books that "exercise our brains," if you will.

And if by "trying" you mean, quitting it twice but leaving it on my nightstand to taunt me, then yes I'm "trying" to read books that exercise my brain... lol!

Smells are the strongest remembrance for me... sometimes I'll smell old hay and it reminds me of my grandpa (he passed in 1998) and his barn (which never had animals in my lifetime). Sometimes I'll smell mothballs, and it will remind me of my nana (his wife) - their home smelled strongly of moth balls, lol!

There are songs too that will remind me of a time or place.

If I've seen or spoken to my sister or brother recently, I will then call my children by their (my brother or sister's) names rather than their own... they get so aggravated, but I think it's funny!
