I woke up this morning, got my coffee, and turned on my computer as I always do. When it booted up I was greeted by this screen...

IMG_4492.JPG

My 12 year old is obsessed with Pi. So, while the math geek in me loves that, the minimalist in me was freaking out! My desktop is usually solid black with a single white flower in the middle. That is way too much stuff on my screen! The rest of my desk is sometimes chaos, but my computer desktop is always cleaned off. I keep maybe 2 icons on my screen...the trash bin and one folder where I dump things temporarily before I put them in their forever home or delete them if I've only needed them briefly. One of my coworkers used to have her whole screen covered in shortcuts and things. It made me twitch just to look over there and I would beg her to let me clean it up. She never would let me, but would call on me when she couldn't find something. :giggle

So, curious minds want to know...what's on your computer's desktop? Do you change your wallpaper often? Make your own (I used to do this)? Do you have a lot of icons/shortcuts?

I'd have a heart attack if that popped out at me unexpectedly! It is too busy!

I was just thinking how making a custom desktop was a big thing/trend for awhile there. I haven't done it in ages though. Mine doesn't even have a photo or anything ... it is the boring out of the box OS desktop at the moment.

I haven't changed my desktop wallpaper in 2 years. I became a fan of Supernatural in mid-2015 and that autumn I found this Castiel fan art by Amanda Tolleson on deviantart. It's so beautiful, Castiel is one of my favorite characters, and Misha Collins who plays Castiel is such an awesome human, so I haven't ever wanted to change it. My passion for the show has reduced to a simmer this year though, so maybe next year, or surely in a few years, I'll change my wallpaper. Before I had this Castiel wallpaper I liked the simple, almost monochrome ocean photo that's one of Apple's default wallpaper choices. I like minimal, non-distracting wallpaper so it doesn't pull my eye away from photos I'm editing or scrapbook pages I'm making.

The little window on the right is my Finder, showing a search in my TLP folder for "treasured" because this morning I made a scrapbook page using just the Treasured collab part 1. I had to minimize Photoshop, Notepad, and my web browser because my desktop was completely full when I came upon this post.

Castiel's beautiful wings were a little distracting when I first used this photo for my wallpaper, but I love the way it looks like my browser window has wings when I'm reading websites.

All those files on the right edge are screenshots. Mostly of recent live TLP events and coupon codes. Screenshots are how I take notes. But when DSD is done, I'll be deleting them. My desktop is usually clear. My DIGITAL desktop, that is. My physical desktop gets much, much more cluttered and stays that way for longer periods of time. :D

Now I should turn this into a scrapbook page!

p.s. I think the Pi wallpaper is awesome!

I know, right...I was like what the heck!!!
I haven't made my own in years. I used to like doing it and I remember when desktop challenges were everywhere.

That is really cool! And so neat how it looks like wings on the window! I know it makes me feel more organized and clean if my desktop is clean...even if everything else on the desk is chaos. And yes, you definitely should turn this in to a scrapbook page!!

I have installed a little program called Wallcat.
It gives my iMac a different high resolution wallpaper every few days (it claims every day, but that's not true). It's amazing. I have it set on Structure, because I like the urban "rough" images. But you can also choose Fresh Air, Gradient or Northern Perspective.

This is my current desktop (which a whole bunch of stuff open but that's because today was my DSD day and it's already 7:20 pm)

I'd be twitching a bit too I believe @IntenseMagic!

My desktop is usually pretty uncluttered (at home and at work). I keep digital kits I need to scrap with on my desktop and once I'm done with the layout, I file it on my EHD. Sometimes I have a photo on my desktop - other times I go with a solid color. The area around my desk is usually pretty neat and tidy as well.

At work I keep current "projects" on my desktop - so during the week I might have as many as 14 or 15 Excel sheets saved there, but every Friday I file them to my private company hard drive - and I also tidy up my email folders Friday before leaving for the day - deleting what I can, etc.

Probably a bit OCD! LOL!

my desktop is clean, only few icons because I want to see my wallpaper. and my wallpaper is a page of scrap. I change it regulary when I've a new great picture of my sons.

I'm getting sweaty just looking at that screen, Jan! I have a black screen with like 12 shortcuts/icons on it. (Number may change if I add a little Text doc with something random I need to remember.) They're arranged in a specific order, cuz I'm weird. Staring at that pi graphic would make me grind my teeth to dust lol!

I read awhile ago that a good way to extend your battery on a laptop was to keep the desktop black, so that's what I did; and TBH, now I just really like it. Much simpler than having a cute photo of the kids. Maybe if I'm feeling crazy, I might change the color to "dark charcoal" instead. *giggle*

I have an old signature from a store as my desktop but it's too busy. I tend to chuck things on there that I only want for a short while (eg screen shots for DSD games!) and then every so often I have a good clear out.

That's really cool! Sounds like pretty neat little program!

I am the same. Anything I'm going to use coming up I throw on to the desktop, but if it stays there very long it drives my crazy. I'm the same with my email as well.

I like black! I read something like that as well. I put things in a certain order, too... I'm weird as well!

Here's my desktop - one of my favorite pictures from my trip to London last year.

What a gorgeous photo!!

I have the standard Yosemite/Sierra/whatever it is with the mountain from Mac OS on my desktop. I can't have lots of icons hanging around! Just one little row down the side for my EHDs, and everything else is in a folder on the Desktop to keep it looking neat and tidy.

Because, you know, Bart likes tidy. :)

I have a stock photo from my computerm right now. I also used to make my own backgrounds, but in recent years just stuck with a landscape photo I took or a cool quote/graphic I've found. It's otherwise clear of icons except a couple that I open everyday.

I (reluctantly) have four icons on my desktop. The rest is a huge picture of my kids + nephew on our vacation this summer.

A desktop filled up with icons makes me want to stab my eyes out. I can't handle it.

my desktop is full of icons on the left and then I make txt documents with coupon codes and other stuff that I need and keep them on the right for easy access.
