I can handle gory for the most part, I've disassociated the reality of it in my mind, it's all just make up and prosthetics to me. But psychological, yeah, I have a tough time with those. I'm not sure if I WANT to see IT or not. I am watching The Walking Dead (I play 7 Days to Die so really it's not a stretch for me.) but I don't like jump scares, so the shows/things I watch have to be very limited on those, otherwise it's just not a fun movie. American Horror Story wasn't bad either. They had a few, but mostly I just looooove the different actors and how GOOD they are, and then watching the next season for them to come back and see what they're playing now. I'm with @jk703 Jenn on this.. I watched Jaws, The Shining and Poltergeist WAY too early. If I went back and watched them now, it'd probably take some fear off, but man. Trees against a window or a tv full of static. NO. THANKS. Although me and my eleven year old once were standing at the end of the hallway when the 17 year old was picking on us so we grabbed each others hand, gave each other a look and nodded then started saying "Come play with us, Haeley." at the same exact time. It was SUPER creepy that she did it with me without planning and it creeped the teenager out, but we couldn't stop laughing.
Yep. Arachnophobia for me. I still get creeped out occasionally in the shower. And yes, the graphics in it are atrocious today. This. I watched all the Scream movies and such in the late 90's early 00's. But I can't anymore. Stephen King book.
@IntenseMagic So, when a Scream was released to vhs (maybe dvd?) We were watching it at a girlfriends house. Her boyfriend and his friend ( now my husband) thought it would be hilarious to get a scream mask and knock on the windows. Now? It was funny. Then? Scared the life out of us.
I love creepy and scary, but really don't get into the overly gory or torture stuff. I can see crime scene photos, so it's not that I'm squeamish, I just don't get into the emotion of torture. Rather not watch that, or the 10-minute sex scenes. I like a good old haunted house, creepy doll, abandoned asylum, ghosts and that kind of thing.
This is me and The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock. I was young and was supposed to be in bed, but occasionally I would sneak out of my room and watch tv from the dark hall. My parents were watching some tribute to Hollywood type of show where they were showing snippets of classic movies and I happened to sneak into the hall at the time The Birds clip came on. Freaked me out! I still get a little panicky around flocks of birds (like when this business between our house and the grocery store feeds pigeons on the sidewalk)... but I have gotten over it enough to go into aviaries at the zoo now... lol! I used to love scary movies, but once having kids, I couldn't watch them anymore. Now that I have a teen girl who loves them, I've started watching them again. I have a fascination with ghost/paranormal stuff, so I'll watch those. Clara got me started on the Paranormal Activity movies this summer and I didn't hate them. My favorite way to watch scary movies though, is in the the background of my daughter and her friends watching them.... they crack me up with the way they yell at the tv!!
I like scary and I loved It! Both versions. I don't like movies that are just slasher flicks though, like Friday the 13th.
My sentiments exactly. I remember when DH and I just started dating, we went to a midnight showing of The Night of the Living Dead. Not sure what possessed us to see it as he hates scary more than I do. Somehow, with the help of friends, we made it thru the movie without dying of fright.
I never did watch or care for scary movies, though I did see Psycho and The Birds and still hate the idea of flocks of birds. One batch flew at me in Florida when I walked under a tree that apparently belonged to them. Who knew no one walked in FL? My only kind of scary ones are gory crime shows. I'm totally fine unless they pull out a needle. I cover my eyes since I still faint having blood drawn now and then. But if I'm home alone with dh gone for a week, I know to watch serious crime shows in the afternoon. I don't worry about being murdered but I don't sleep well and I love my sleep!
Totally! I used to watch criminal minds and other shows like that when dh was working graves. ...and then stay up because I would have crazy stabby dreams.
My Daughter, oldest Grandson and I are the horror movie fans in this house. Andrea and I used to watch Dr. Sanguinary on one of the network channels every Saturday night when she was a kid, so I think it still brings found memories. As far as "It" is concerned, I don't think I ever saw it, but it was definitely one of the scariest King books I've ever read. It stuck with me for a looooong loooong time!
