fave Bake Sales buys &/or recipes?

Are you a Bake Sale regular, either as a baker or as a buyer?

So far today I've made basic brownies and these choc-dipped marshmallow on a stick things with different sprinkles; tomorrow looks like Lemon Cake Bars and Coconut Ice so you can tell I'm on the baking/making end of this fundraiser but I'm also interested in what others prefer to buy and any 'best seller' recipes you care to share.
 
no. we are neither in this household. my daughter doesn't eat eggs - so I don't buy/make things with them ... that leaves out 99% of the usual bake fair goods.

i honestly hate the pressure instilled on us by some of the school/sport activities to participate. it's expensive and time prohibitive to bake without eggs - and the end product isn't usually something most kids want to eat. i try to quietly ignore those fundraisers bc of our personal choices in our household - but it sometimes gets stressful with "why aren't YOU helping" sigh. ugh. all the feels on that one! :groan
 
We don't have many true bake sales. Usually they are ones that are pre-packaged, buy ready made stuff. PLus, allergies nowadays are hard. Or wrapping paper. Or coupon books.

I don't do the usual school fundraisers. I'd rather just give the school $50 (or whatever cost) straight so they get the whole amount than go out and try to sell items that they will only get 50% of the cost.

I hate buying things from school fundraisers unless it's something I actually need. :giggle I don't need extra brownies. I will eat them!
 
Rice Krispy treats. Easy to make and everyone loves them. You can even put them on a stick and decorate them if you want (think Mickey!).
 
They have a cake walk at the end-of-the-year carnival but otherwise no bake sales at my daughter's school.

I can give you a recipe for The Best Brownies Ever, though. They are messy to eat but delicious!

Make brownies according to box directions. Let cool COMPLETELY (important!). Slather jar of marshmallow fluff on top of cooled brownies. Melt 1 c. butterscotch (or peanut butter) chips and 1 c. chocolate chips in small saucepan on stove. Stir in 1 c. Rice Krispies. Spread mixture over marshmallow fluff.

Prepare for people to worship you after tasting these brownies!
 
I make rice krispy squares for my hubs but anytime I'm at a school/church function I'll buy some if they're selling them. He loves them. I love that they are simple and quick to make. I like them with butterscotch chips in them too.
 
I usually do some baking for the Cake Walk at the carnival for our elementary school. Last year I bakes a few different breads...pumpkin choc chip, banana choc chip and plain banana. Other than that, we don't really have any other bake sales for anything.
 
We don't have a lot of bake sales at our school. I do bake a lot for the teachers though. We have a Staff Appreciation committee & I am on that one. We usually do lunches & stuff for the staff during conference weeks and holidays & sometimes at random too! I usually make cupcakes because that's my 'thing' but it's fun to make them go with the theme- like Tres Leche cupcakes for the mexican food potluck ;)

As far as recipes for a bake sale- cupcakes always sell well because kids love them :D Even boxed mixes are pretty good these days if you swap the oil with sour cream, the water with milk or cream and add an extra egg! ;)
 
They don't have bake sales or cake walks at my daughters school...and I'm sure if ever happened to do one, everything would have to be store bought, just like we have to do when we bring in items for their birthdays...store bought and allergen free.

We ignore the fundraisers too!! They add up FAST and they all seem like organized chaos which I don't do well with.

I helped my daughters grade out one time last year near Thanksgiving for their Friendship Brunch...never again! Loading all of the items onto a cart from all four or five classes, just to separate them out again (why??), not getting tables until half hour before food was to be served (last minute much), having kids trying hold their drink of choice (milk in a cup without a lid if they chose milk) AND trying to hold a plate to have food placed on it...it was just too much for me. I told the other ladies, the drinks should go at the end with the forks/spoons/napkins so all they have to worry about at the beginning is holding their plate straight, but what do I know LOL

This is is me!! I'd rather donate money vs bugging people or going door-to-door looking for sales. My daughter gets upset, but the older she gets I think she's finally understanding that the companies that host the fund raisers are really only looking out for themselves. I don't think many parents realize how little the schools get from the different fund raisers.

I never worried about it until we moved here and have a friend with egg allergies. We have a favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe that is egg free. It's a little more expensive because it uses cream cheese, but it only takes about 2 minutes more than my regular egg chocolate chip recipe. And everyone loves it - kids, parents, us! We sometimes make them just for our family who can eat eggs.

As far as recipe winners- no goodies, just bread. We did a fundraiser for ours church youth, and they fought over my loves of bread ($40!). I do like my brownie recipe because it's simple, and chocolatey.
 
I Bake myself....................... not as much as I used to as my children are grown. The only bake sale I do every year, and I work it not buy, is the Christmas one our church does. Trying to think what sells the fastest. We have one person that makes small pies, like a 2 person pie size, they sell out the fastest. Also cutout cookies that are decorated.

I truly love scotcheroos but my grandkids can't eat nuts and I haven't had them in years .... now I have a craving for them.

I'll make cupcakes with green and blue "team color" frosting and sprinkles. (The Seahawks) they always go quickly.
 
Thanks everyone - I'm a bit like @Sokee, I work it so i'm less likely to feel i have to buy (not that buying ingredients and time isn't costly itself). This weekend's one is one of those 'it's a local council election and we're a polling place school so this is a gifted fundraising opportunity with random people with wallets coming into the school' cake stall set-up's and everything has to have labels with ingredients so purchasers can make informed decisions re: allergies etc. I think allergies and time poor and everything is half the reason so many people seem to avoid both the making and buying with these days
 
This is such an Australian answer...but I can't go past a good old lamington at a fete. Ditto lemon slice and caramel slice.

I have seen set ups done by professional caterers that did not understand the flow of a buffet. Instant chaos! :hissy

With no children in schools, I have no idea if schools still do this...probably too many allergy issues to make it worthwhile. The only thing we ever buy at an event are the peach pies at a local church Peach festival. Sadly we missed them this year.

i thought someone was bound to bring lamingtons but nope, didnt see a single one... they're something i'd be tempted to eat before taking them in though (i only make coconut ice for these things cos i don't like it LOL)
