Canada Day {150!} Is Saturday, and Independence Day {US} is Tuesday. So, it's mostly a holiday weekend on this side of the pond.

But regardless of your location, what's on your weekend plans? Do you have a holiday weekend? Are you going to enjoy the summer weather, or expecting snow?

We are spending the holiday weekend at my husband's brother's lake house in Tennessee. We leave this afternoon and will be coming back Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

This is the only time of the year that we get to spend more than a couple of hours with them so my kids are excited to hang out with their cousins. It's a bunch of boys except for my daughter but she manages to hold her own with them. Last year was her first time kayaking, tubing, and swimming in the lake but my son was having none of it. We're hoping this year he might be big enough and brave enough to do those things, too. We'll see! Riding on the boat is one of my favorite things on Earth, and getting to see the lake's fireworks show from the boat is pretty rad, too.

I'm going out shortly for food for the trip (imagine feeding 4 adults + 3 teenage boys + 3 other kids!) and doing some laundry so we can head out the door as soon as DH gets off work.

I plan to do a big bunch of nothing haha :hammock

I was going to go out to the nail salon today and then I got to thinking...last day of the month, holiday weekend, don't want to deal with the crazies :giggle

On the actual 4th, there is a big celebration in town at the football stadium. The rescue squad (where my oldest works) started it a few years ago. They start at 1pm and have live music, food, face painting, bounce houses, kids games, etc and it goes up until about 10pm when they start fireworks. It's all free to the public and we usually come and go throughout the day.

But, I think for the majority of the weekend, I am going to sit here and scrap. We may be leaving for vacation next weekend, so this one will probably be a quite one.

I love lake trips!! Hope you have a wonderful time!!

We are going to be home, but we have something each day except for tonight. My hubby asked me this morning if I wanted to have friends over to play cards... my facial expression must have properly relayed my disappointment. Lol. I am planning to paint tonight... by myself... alone... without people. :giggle

Tomorrow we are going to a friends' parent's house on a lake. Our friends are in town from Minnesota and they are like family, so we are super excited to see them and play in the water all day tomorrow. Then tomorrow night we are going to another friend's house for a BBQ. Sunday is church and then friends coming over to watch GOT (we are re-watchign all the old season before the new season starts in two weeks). Monday we are hosting a fish fry at our house... so lots of cleaning before then. :giggle Tuesday we really don't have much until the eveing when the kids are going to sell parking spaces at our church for a fundraiser (people come from states away to watch the fireworks at our beach).

Super excited for this weekend - I am taking a cell phone photography class. Trust me, I need it!! I probably need a new phone too, but that is another story.

My ds and dd are in a theater camp next week and I have to deliver veggies on Tuesday, so we do anything for the 4th, it will be very low key and spontaneous. Dd is pushing to have people over for brats on the grill, so that may happen.

Tonight we are having dinner at my mom's for Daniel's birthday. It's a bit behind (his bday was the 24th) because my grandma fell last Saturday and fractured her pelvis in two places (she's doing better - now in rehab facility). My sister's boyfriend has two kiddos and one of them has a bday in June as well so he's joining in Daniel's celebration.

My hubby was supposed to have off all weekend through next Wednesday, but the co-worker that's been out for 10 days on a mission trip to Brazil came back to find her sister in Hospice and then she died yesterday morning SO Jay's vacation is no more. I'm disappointed, but really sad that his co-worker lost her sister. So our weekend plans are up in the air.

On the 4th, we are supposed to go to my mom's for lunch and then we'll head downtown to watch the fireworks. They shoot them out over the water from a barge and there are large speakers playing music to accompany them.

I'm hoping to get some scrapping in tomorrow. Jay and Daniel were supposed to go off on boy adventures tomorrow, but I think Daniel will be home with me. I may try to think of something fun for us to go off and do.

We are trying to put together the desks for hubby's new home office / girls' homework room today. Well, hubby is. I'm usually the one doing it but this time I told him it was his job. He took the day off and I have a ton of other stuff to do. I'm usually the handy-ma'am around here so it's weird, but kinda nice that he's doing it. I'm quite pleased that he's doing it and I haven't had to help other than when the steps required two people. He's got one desk almost finished, just needs to build the drawers. Then, he'll have one more desk and two hutches. I'm guessing it'll take him a couple of days, but that's okay. It's good for him to have something to do. Otherwise he'd be interrupting my scrappin... hehe!

Both of our girls are in parades for the 4th. Unfortunately, they are in parades in different towns, so that's going to be tricky trying to see them in both parades. Our youngest's is the farthest away, and starts an hour earlier so we're hoping she's at the beginning of her parade and that our teenager will be at the end of hers. We haven't received the info yet from either the theater or student government groups so that's frustrating. I'd really like to get the info so we can make a plan on how to make it to both parades. I'm guessing we'll have to divide and conquer and one of us will probably end up missing the older one's parade. Hopefully not, but you can only do what you can do.

We usually go to the children's parade and fireworks on the 3rd. I'm not sure if our 11 year old will want to be in the children's parade this year. She didn't do it last year because of a conflict, but we did make it to the fireworks. We all love the fireworks, so we will definitely do those. We'll also BBQ some hamburgers and hotdogs and enjoy hanging out and just have some fun for the Fourth!

I should be packing, but I'm not. Tomorrow, three of the four of us leave to go to Michigan. My son has rehearsals and work, so he is driving up on his own on the 3rd... I'm going to be a nervous wreck that day!

Clara and I will be up there for two weeks, but my husband and son are coming back on the 5th. My son is with School of Rock and will be going to Summerfest in Milwaukee that weekend. School of Rocks (Schools of Rock?) from around the country send bands to play the last weekend of Summerfest and he just has a blast! They stay in the dorms together at Marquette and just have a great time hanging out, making friends and playing music.

As soon as the boys leave, my parents show up for a couple of days, and then, a day after they leave, a couple of Clara's friends show up to stay that week. My husband will fly back mid-week and we'll all drive back together.

As far as the fourth, the place where our house is has their celebration on the 3rd, so we'll do that since it's easy. We just walk from our house, throw down a blanket as our home base and hang out. There are carnival games (which is how we ended up with fish a couple of years ago), food and fireworks. On the 4th, we usually go to a town along the lake that has fireworks, but since Alex is only there two nights, we might just lay low... grill something and play games together. We'll see.

We have to get through tonight though... Alex is out all day with friends and Clara has a quinceanera tonight. She's at Dry Bar right now getting her hair done with friends.

We are headed out tonight to my in-laws lake house! (lake Coeur d'Alene, ID- only a 30min drive from our house- we live right on the border between WA & ID) We actually spend every weekend out there, but the holiday weekends are fun because lots of friends & family come too! I found my mother in law a little throw pillow that said "You never know how many friends you have until you own a lake house" :giggle In addition to the normal 6 of us (fil, mil, dh, me & our 2 kids) we will have 6 more adults & 2 more kids for the weekend- but some leaving tuesday, some wednesday. I don't have to work at all next week- so the kids & I are going to stay ALL week! :D

We have no plans except for DD's ortho appt for her broken arm. DH will take her. I'm hoping he'll take DS too so that I can have time to myself. Between DD's broken arm and my sprained ankle, I've been to 2 ERs this week with 2 kids and I'm just tired. I want some time to myself, which I can't get for the next 6 weeks cuz DD can't play outside.

But we are going to eat grilled yumminess and have a good weekend. DH has 4 days off. We had talked about DH taking the whole week off and going to MI where extended family lives, but we missed out on good ticket prices and dh and I don't want to drive there this year. But now that DD has the broken arm, I'm glad we're not going anywhere cuz she would NOT survive 13 hours in a car. Neither would I, actually.

We are also going to clear out our garage to do a preventative termite treatment. There are NO termites in the house but 2 wood stakes the pest co used as bait showed signs of them. The best solution is to treat around the house to keep them out. That way, when we sell, we can legally and honestly say "no termites in home. Prevention taken."

Wow. Broken bones, vacation not taken, and termites. When written out, my holiday weekend sounds horrible but I really do plan on relaxing and enjoying it. DH has been busy at work so I know he's going to enjoy having 4 days off.

Sounds like you have a lot going on and are making the best of what you've been dealt for the weekend. Thanks for putting things in perspective and keeping a positive attitude. I'm gonna look on the bright side for the rest of the day and hopefully weekend too, because of you. Thanks Sara!

Weekend I have no plans; there is some events going on around us but I just don't want to drive in the mess to get to them (the joy of living in the country and having to drive to get to everything). Monday I work until 1:30 PM and then I have to hurry home to get ready for our own fireworks/family picnic. We have my daughter, sil and 3 grandkids plus my son, dil and 5 kids out for food and fireworks. Definitely have to get my annual picture of the kids in front of the fence (been doing that for several years).

My weekend is being in expanded dispatch to help support a wildfire incident. I work for the Forest Service. We have a fire in our location. I've been here since Sunday so it's day 6 for me. First time I have down time to browse the web. I haven't scrap in almost a week!

We don't have anything planned; I need to check to see if they're going to do fireworks in the area this weekend or on Tuesday and go from there.

I do love everyone else's plans!! The lake would be so much fun this weekend!!

My stepson lives in PV, hubby took him home the other day and was able to snap some photos...summers here are so scary with out lack of rain and all of the dried out vegetation...stay safe!!

1st weekend of school hols (winter break) for us, slept late and have been cooking a bunch of stuff (we were given a big bag of oranges last week and are taking an orange cake to afternoon tea this afternoon) Tomorrow I plan to start on July challenges!
(And Happy Canada Day to you and all the other Canadian Pad Peeps! Long live the maple syrup! :)

1st weekend of school hols (winter break) for us

Second week of school holidays here Justine and we are loving the downtime and easier pace of life. We are hoping to head out for another walk tomorrow after a fabulously lazy (scrapping) day today :giggle
