We had a great thread about what people were planning for Mother's Day. So, what actually went down?

We had planned on going for a hike at Thousand Islands National Park by Lake Ontario. But it was cold and rainy. I fell asleep at 11AM. Reportedly, I woke up at around 3pm. Walked to the kitchen in my underwear and ate a bowl of Cheesies. My 12 year-old asked me if she could make a cup of caffeinated tea, or if it was too late in the day. I kept saying, "Go to bed. Your going to be tired tomorrow." As she tried to explain to me that it was actually the middle of the afternoon. Eventually I wandered back to my bedroom, and woke up around 5pm with only a vague memory of that conversation.

LOL. That's hysterical!

I had a girls weekend - coming back Sunday afternoon. My hubby flew out of town for work Sunday morning so I was just going to grab dinner with my kids. I'm always tired after girls weekend so just wanted to pick up some yummy Thai food at our local place to have at home. Of course, it turned out that it was closed "In honor of Mothers Day". Um, ok - closing restaurants so moms then have to cook is a questionable way to honor mothers. :D So, we got take-out from a local sandwich place. Glamorous celebration here. :D

My day was pretty uneventful which is what was planned. We didn't even take pictures. I was still fighting a downer mood due to some horrible news a dear friend received this week. Today, I am seeking joy because being depressed can make me over eat which makes me even more depressed. The sky is bright blue and sunny with a light breeze to take away the heat.

I was lazy yesterday. It was nice! I had planned to do a little shopping but I didn't even leave the house except to go to the backyard to watch the kids play and talk with DH. :) I didn't plan on pics, but I did get a fantastic selfie with my DS. I was outside weeding and he came over to chat. I asked "Can I get a pic of us?" and he actually sat and smiled a gorgeous smile! Normally he crosses his eyes or sticks out his tongue, or just doesn't even LOOK at the camera (er, phone, lol). Having a nice photo of him with me was a great surprise Mother's Day gift.

Oh and I bought glasses for DD and me. Zenni had a "twinning" section, so I got us matching transparent blue acetate frames and sunglasses in the shape of hearts. She and I had fun looking at the glasses--I knew as soon as she saw the heart ones that she'd pick those!

But my laziness yesterday just means I have more to do today. Stupid laundry didn't magically wash itself yesterday!

We were awakened at 3am by my mother in law who had fallen and hurt herself. She lives in an assisted living facility and they had called he paramedics who thought she should be transported to the hospital to see if she broke anything. My husband left to meet them at the hospital. She hadn't broken any bones and they released her so my husband took her back home. He came home in time to go to church with me then he came home and took a nap. After that he went back to the assisted living place to check on her. He kept apoligizing that I wasn't having a good mother's day! He came home later and fixed me dinner. My son called earlier and I had a great conversation with him.

My husband had to work due to some staffing issues in his store. But before he went in, he brought me breakfast and he and my daughter got me a Fitbit Blaze and a Nutella cookbook. My daughter and I went to church and then to eat a giant ice cream sundae for lunch. We spent the afternoon painting, my husband came home, then we went to the park for a race my daughter runs in on Sunday afternoons. We had dinner at my favorite Italian place and walked around the downtown area of our city afterwards. It was not what I had expected or planned (we were going hiking before my husband had to work) but it was a really good day.

That is so scary. I am glad your mother in law was OK, and how lovely that your husband took time to take care of each of you (and that your son called).

Well we have always been a family of calls not gifts as for 3 generations we have always lived all round the world. My husband and I get by with Happy ...whatever occasion it is. He did say later in the day he'd get me whatever I wanted for dinner but usually I don't even need/want dinner any more. However, he did go outside of Annapolis to get us Thai food and that was a nice treat. Going out to dinner with my super introverted engineer is not a lot of fun as he doesn't do small talk so carryout is a much better idea. My two sons called but my daughter is in a no contact mood it seems. They come and go and when she's in a bind somehow someway I'll hear from her. :blahblahblah

We had a relaxing fun BBQ, as planned. One surprising visitor to our neighbor across the street was a big bear that climbed up the tree beside his fence and he was up about 75 feet, chewing away at the moss/leaves. He stayed up there for about 1.5 hours. I couldn't get a clear enough shot thru my lens to capture a good pic so didn't bother, but it was fun to watch him shaking and grabbing at the tree, at one point he stuck his head right out from the foliage and was staring at us. Unfortunately, during that only really great moment for a pic, my camera was put away. Of course LOL. Everyone was worried about him getting down, and would he fall on the shed and hurt himself and the shed, but no, he managed to shimmy down pretty easily.

There was only one mishap during the day. I had gone to the store to get groceries, came back and noticed something was missing so I chalked it up to me forgetting to put on the counter at the checkout. Then a few minutes later I realized I was missing something else so then I realized I had left a bag at the store. So off I went to retrieve it, wasting 1/2 of my time. But at least I got the rest of the groceries and the rest of the day went off without a hitch.

LOL!!! Sounds like you needed to catch up on your sleep!! That's too funny! I don't know what Cheesies are but they sound so GOOD!!!!

We didn't leave the house :) I binge watched Bossgirl on Netflix while hubby worked on getting all of our files from our ancient PC to the new to us (it was a Microsoft refurbished one from Fry's Electronics) one he picked up Saturday evening.

It was my birthday AND mother's day on the same day so I got a whole weekend!! LOL! We went to the Mall of America on Saturday and got chocolate shakes and were on our way to pick up a camera lens I rented for the weekend when we got rear ended. I ended up in the bathroom of Menards throwing up from adrenaline dump and the excess pain the jolt gave me. So for that whole hour, waiting for the police and sitting in the sun, I was NOT a happy camper, but then we were back on our way (no "injuries" and the cars were relatively okay, indents but still worked) got the camera lens (I'm enjoying it but can't find my card reader so I have no idea if the photos actually turned out well.. hmm.) and then went to dinner.

Sunday we went to Pahl's (flower store) and got a honeycrisp and cortland apple tree 'twist' that's so cool and my teenager and I took photos all over of the flowers. Then came home and rested. :) (and did chores. bleh! On my birthday!!)

All in all, a good weekend.

My family has always been big on holidays and birthdays, and that usually consists of lunch and gifts.

We switch off moms each year and so my hubby met his mom and his sister and her family for breakfast on Sunday morning. He took her a card from us and a pair of PJs that she wanted.

I stayed at home resting for a bit as I had been working/cooking Friday night and all day Saturday since I hosted the lunch this year. Our menu was lasagna (that I cooked and assembled on Saturday, fresh bread, salad . . . with coconut creme pie (from scratch), brownies and banana nut bread (from scratch). We had 9 people, me, hubby and my two kiddos, my sister and her boyfriend, my mom, my grandma, and my aunt. We ate lunch at 1:30. I did WAY more work than I wanted to for the weekend, but my mom and grandma and aunt were happy, so that's good.

My mom got special measuring cups and spoons in a large variety of sizes plus a succulent plant. My mom gave my grandma her gift early because it was a large four wheeled cart for her garden. We gave my aunt a card. I got handmade cards from my children, along with a book, an Echo Dot, a holder for the Dot, and bluetooth speaker.

We took photos outside afterwards and then I spent the evening reading and picking up here and there when I would get up.

All in all, a beautiful day with my family.

Relaxed and watched movies. Hubby always gives me a day that he does all the chores, cooking and takes care of the kids. I literally sit down and do what I want!!! ♥

So did you get your persuasive writing essay in the end? @Juliestcyr
I reiterated i wasn't washing dishes and didn't! (I still washed and hung clothes out but it was a night off cooking - DH can throw meat and potatoes in the oven and peas in the microwave and DS thinks he is the worlds best cook and says it repeatedly so we had a nice dinner and cheesecake (DH knows me so well!) and the kids were less argumentative than normal #winning and i got 2 pages done for an upcoming thing here at the Pad so it was pretty good - sleep-in's dont happen here but you can't win 'em all.

We got dinner from The Crackerbarrel on Saturday evening and my Honey gave me a set of measuring spoons for my collection. They have flowers on the handles and beehives in and on the backs of the spoons. Very pretty and I love them. Sunday we went to Church and it was so nice to be there. Came home and my Honey made spaghetti and I made a salad for dinner. Was good. Other than that we just napped and read and watched Anne With an E on Netflix. And all but one of our kids called or texted so that was nice, too. :)

@bellbird I did not get any persuasive essays. I did get a lovely card and a scavenger hunt from Ruth and a hand made comic from Naomi. I think that when we do go for the hike in 2 weeks, I may have to listen to some (less than) persuasive oratory in the car on the way there.

The Mothers' Day tea was fun. I don't drink tea & some of the finger sandwiches weren't my 'thing' but it was fun to be together and use fancy plates and silverware and be waited on. We got some fun pictures on the staircase in our fancy hats that I'm excited to scrap.

Mothers' Day itself was just ho-hum. The kids were ornery and I had other things on my mind. We went over to my parents' house for a little while in the afternoon and the kids had fun walking around the neighborhood with their cousin. I had to cook and clean which is against my 'rules' so I was pretty irritated abt that. DH did do the laundry and some other random things around the house while we were gone.
