So, we had Spring Break around here last week and the Evangelista clan didn't do a thing. Yep, nothing. Slept in, stayed up late, watched Netflix, ate frozen pizzas and did some yardwork (with kids kicking and screaming).

Well, I worked part of the week, but my kids did nothing (except the above mentioned yardwork).

So, why do I feel so guilty about it? I'm pretty sure it's the Facebook/IG Spring Break Phenomenon where every other post is some "good" parent who took their kids to Disney or the beach.

We just couldn't take the time or money to do the Spring Break vacay. And I'm trying not to compare. Really I am, LOL.

Have you had Spring Break yet? Do you do big things? Am I the only loser mom around?

Oh... and if you DID go to Disney (or somewhere equally awesome) for Spring Break, that's fabulous! Show me photos. I wanna live vicariously through you :giggle
 
We had Spring Break last week as well. My husband took off Monday and we took the kids to a local arcade/bowling alley/activity place. And that was the only big thing we did. The kids and I spent the rest of the week playing video games, watching Netflix, reading, drawing, going to the neighborhood park and getting treats from the ice cream truck. My kids like being able to do the things they don't usually have time to do during a regular school week. It was a nice break.
 
Spring break isn't until next month here... and the kids don't have the same week off. :badmood

It's actually fine as they both have totally different ideas about what makes a good spring break. My son, 16, wants to work as much as he can, but he'll fly to Missouri to visit my parents for a few days at the start of his break. He'll come back on Wednesday so he'll still have the end of the week and the weekend to work.

Clara's spring break starts the Thursday of Alex's break (Alex is in public school. Clara is in a Catholic high school, so she gets off Holy Thursday and Good Friday to kick off her spring break). She leaves that Thursday morning for Guatemala. She'll be gone her entire break on a mission trip with school.

I totally get that! I sit here scrolling through FB thinking wow everyone I know is somewhere warm! Then I realize that it's honestly only 4 or 5 people who are just posting a lot. :-)
 
Spring break is next week & I was thinking about what we'll do. Hubby took off Monday, I took off Tues/Wed/Thurs. We're still not sure who'll have them Friday, maybe Grandma. So, it's not like all of us will be at the same place at the same time. We have Six Flags passes, so I might take them there. 6yr old requested some time at the local bouncy house place, so there's that. I've been thinking of the Palo Alto Junior Zoo & Museum lately. Just a neat little place with a tortoise, dress up, & some science stuff. Most of the time will probably be lazy time. They really don't mind.

Oh, and the big Universal Studios trip is at the end of April. They don't know, but I'm thinking of adding on Legoland on the last day. We'll see.

I agree it's probably social media-itis causing you to feel like this, but what about this: when those "Spring Break getaway families" come home, their yards are gonna look like poop. (In fact, some people may come home to literal poop, if they own dogs. *snicker*) So post a pic on Insta/FB/wherever of your gorgeous yard. Bonus points if you could find a pic of your kids looking HAPPY to be helping in the yard work. Do this even if you have to photoshop on those smiles on their darn faces! Then you'll look like a great mom cuz you're so awesome that your kids don't even need to leave their backyard to have fun! GO YOU!

I'm in the middle. :giggle

I'm the loser parent that can't take off for Spring Break, BUT DH does and drives with the kids to Florida... to go to his Mom's. So, instead of being stuck at home and around our area... they are sorta stuck at their grandmothers. At least it's warm, they can go swimming, and it's not at home, right?

Hubby will try to take them to a couple fun spots, but it's not a true vacation. Mostly because DH goes to help out his mom around her place, visit with her, and I'm not there. lol! Because summer is so long, we have to juggle when we take off to be able to cover all the days the boys have off. Camp isn't cheap, so after $6000 towards that, we don't always have vacation money. We are hoping for a cruise next year though.

I usually get upset when they drive away... but then after they get there... I'm all good, relaxing, watching whatever I want, eating bad food, and not picking up after anyone! So... yay for Spring Break!

i'm in the loser mom group! my kids are HS age so they always have more things keeping them "tied" to home than i do! sports or activities w/friends that make it hard for ME to take them anywhere if that makes sense? (mostly i use it as an excuse to not have to go, and do, and spend $)!!!

i say embrace the lazy, calm, quiet! sounds like a fabulous spring BREAK (it's supposed to be a "break, right"?) to me.
 
It is Spring Break here this week. Right now my son (youngest and a Senior in HS) is in the driveway washing his car really good. BUT the rest of the week is spent doing makeup work/extra credit for Government which is a requirement for graduation, sigh......
We are one of those families that have never gone anywhere for Spring break. Just wasn't in the budget. So don't feel guilty and I hope the weather is nice enough there to get your yard work done! Enjoy the sleeping in! Or staying up late!
 
Since DS is at community college, his break was a few weeks ago. DD's break is the second week of April; I'm bring her to the Pro Skater's workshop in Knoxville, then we're doing college visits. Woohoo.
 
Our spring break was at the beginning of March as we went when college son was on break. We drove about 4 hours south to Myrtle Beach, SC, where spring was about 3 weeks further along than us. The ocean was cold still, but we spent time on the beach, ate out, played mini golf, ate out, visited a garden park twice, ate out, and did I mention eating out? We also watched lots of movies. Mostly just a hang-out with family at some place other than home kind of vacation.
 
We do school! bhahahh...mean mom that I am. We are having a sleep over on Thursday with 3 additional boys. I have one son who is battling me in doing school. If he doesn't do his school. He sleeps in his room, and friends in back patio.
I may get award for meanest mom and worst spring break all rolled up in one!
Maybe I may dust the mantle for the award.
 
Spring Break starts here on Friday. We're not doing diddly squat!!!! Embrace the staycation!!!!!!! And let the laziness begin!!!!

We never did any thing for spring break when our kids were in school. It was just nice to be able to sleep in and do whatever we felt like doing. Definitely an unwinding time at our house. My husband always had to work so going places wasn't possible. But we sure did a lot of camping during the summer months some years and that was great!
 
Spring break is a week here. It starts this Friday, which is my sons birthday!! Since dad has to go work late that day, and Elijah has a half a day, were taking him to lunch. During the week off, were taking him to the Yankee Air Museum. He has autism, so we dont do birthday parties, we take day trips.

I went in June - very beginning of june 2016, with my Mom for a little get away. It's funny that you say "ate out" over and over again because that is exactly what it felt like. I got to the point where I only wanted a light breakfast and 1 other meal!

I wish I was close enough to drive there!
 
My kids are off the 10th-17th. I work for the school district but I work in the administrative building so we don't get a break. I'm thinking I might take Mon-Wed off to spend some time with them. Maybe do a couple of fun things around town like movies or the zoo or something. Nothing big.
 
We are in the un-fun spring break group too! Our break starts Friday, and it is a staycation for us. I still have to work my normal hours, and the kids are excited to go to Grandma's during some of my work days and their cousins will be there to play! We have never traveled during spring break and so my kids don't really know any better and they haven't complained thankfully! Also the last 3 years my husband has been working construction project manager on some big school jobs and guess when they get busy??? When the kids aren't in the school, which is spring break and summers! They try to squeeze school building and remodels into a short short time period, so he has to bust it during those times. :( Not ideal for spring break and summer trips. Oh well...this too shall pass (I hope at least!) I will try to do a few extra special things around town though with the kids to make it seem somewhat special!
 
I get two weeks of spring break (I teach at a private school) and my kids only get one. So I got my own personal staycation before they were even off school. :giggle We're now in the middle of their week off, and we drove up to visit my mom in Seattle. We did a day trip to the zoo and one to the science center, but that's about it. The rest has been bumming around the house and playing board games!
 
Well, we might do something for spring break if we actually had a spring break :giggle We only get the Friday before and the Monday after Easter...that's it...2 days and the weekend. It's better than nothing, but still sucks. I usually use the long weekend to do a project around the house. One year I painted kitchen cabinets and this year I plan to replace the torn up lattice around our deck.
 
Olivia's in college and her Spring Break was the week before Daniel's (his was last week). We didn't do anything for Olivia's break - and for Daniel's, since Olivia also has Fridays free from class, Jay took off Friday and we went out for a family day. We went to a restaurant on the water that we had not visited before, and then did some shopping, followed by a sweet treat and then hanging out at the house watching The Office for the nine hundredth time. LOL

I know how hard it is to see Facebook posts about Spring Break or just vacations in general, especially with those couple of friends who ALWAYS seem to be doing something. LOL But rest assured, you are not the only mom who stayed at home with their children this Spring Break.

I often think as women especially, trying to do it all, that we overschedule ourselves and our families. I know so many of my friends are not only vacationing incessantly (or it seems like it), but their children are involved in so many activities that they are never home. I was raised and wasn't involved in anything . . . so my inclination is to do the same with my children . . . which works out great for my budget and for my scheduling. LOL Honestly, though, my back pain really limits our family, which is another whinefest for another day. But for a lot of reasons, we just stay at home a lot. It's a good and happy place, we enjoy the company of one another, and we are definitely rested and ready for whatever life brings our way.

And seriously girl, you were SO busy with that play, right? Y'all DESERVED a break!
