How do you decide what kits to buy?

Ohhhh!! I loved Farmville!! Is this an app or a game you buy a disc for to play on the PC?

It's for the PC and it's not multiplayer (yet). It's really complex, but you can make it as easy or hard as you want. The graphics are retro and it's overall gorgeous. The developer has worked five years on it and you can see that he put a lot of thought into it. You can get Mods if you are so inclined and there is a huge community built around it by now. If you are interested just google the name. I could go on and on about it. If you look at it and think about the fact that it is the work of one indie developer it is even more amazing.

All of the above :) I buy by color, theme, and what speaks to me :) things that are blendable

I'm afraid to look!! I know I'll love it just by what you've said! I never was gamer, still not really, but I do love games with retro graphics! About the only game I really really liked and would play until the cows came home was Oregon Trail; never was good at it, but boy did I have fun playing!

Looking won't hurt and it is really not expensive. I can't tell you how many hours of fun I got out of it already.

@bbymks5, I have a few "cheats". For example, I do not have to use every single letter in an Alpha to check it off the list.As long as I've used it for one full title. Also, when I get multi-coloured alphas, and I make a rainbow title, I can check off one colour each time I do a multi-coloured title with it. I will occasionally flat out delete stuff I know I'll never use (American spellings, because I only have daughters, because I don't sport ...) Sometimes I will also give word art a pass too (I am not very sentimental, and sometimes I find the word art is) but I wanted the kit for certain papers or elements). I'm also in love with changing colours, or adding styles to make an element work in a layout, and I totally give myself a check mark when I've used an element that way.

Loving this idea!! Do you every feel guilty deleting something?

Mostly, it's whatever strikes my fancy, as I'm a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants scrapper and not a chronological or project scrapper. LOL

I have been reading these responses hoping to find someone who scraps like I do, and here she is!! I am totally all over the place. I don't scrap in order, I don't do albums, I just ----- SCRAP!! I buy what catches my eye, whether I need it or not, so needless to say, I have a lot of unused kits!!! This past month I have been trying to get my kits in some sort of order. I set up files by subject so if I need a vintage kit, I am not going crazy trying to find one.

And yes, I have occasionally deleted individual elements I know I will not use. I have also deleted whole kits, but they were of the free, blog hop variety. I also have started "retiring" my own kits if I want to keep but am tired of them or something. I renamed them to start with Z so they sort at the bottom of the list (only non-TLP stuff of course!).

I just spent some time renaming kits this week and it helped me find a bunch I want to use. In case you are wondering, my rename was to include a theme in the title of the kit if the designer's original name didn't include one. I do know of people who set up tagging or organization structures so that they find un-used kits right away. I might have to start doing that. I have started tagging BYOC stuff with the month so I know which have the same color scheme.

I don't scrap in order either LOL! I've had a couple books printed but they were all over the place! I did some organizing of my files, I ended up putting them into folders by designer so we'll see how that works...I just had them in a folder in alpha order.

That's a good idea too! I haven't become tired of anything yet, but when I do, I'll have to remember this!

Setting tags is a good idea too! Some designers are better at including a description of each element in the file name and others don't so I spend a lot of time going through all of my stuff.

I rename my word art with the words on the strip. Some designers include the words in the name, but others use wa1, wa2, etc. Then I can do a search for whatever word I want and find them across kits.

I'm drawn by colours (even though I know I can recolor elements), rub-ons (I love them all) and also by unique elements in a kit. I'm not a theme scrapper (unless its travel) so a kit has to work for just about anything.

I'm most likely to buy a kit if there are journal cards to go with them since PL is my main form of documenting. I love using the MPM collections and BYOC for my PL pages. I also love kids that are not too heavily themed, I love kits I can use for anything.

That would be so helpful!!!

I love matching my photos to kits...I'm a matchy matchy person! I wish I could break the habit though.

I love PL style cards too!! Quick and easy and they're typically spot on for what I want for pocket pages!

Oh my! I couldn't work with my kits unless they were by designers. Always kept them that way. Problem is----I don't remember what I bought. So I made up folders by subject, also. Such as; Feminine; Masculine; Baby: School, Vintage etc etc etc. and then just put the preview of the kit in these folders. That way if I want to do a school layout and I don't remember which designers made school kits that I purchased, I can go to the school folder.

Twinsies! LOL
