Our roof last spring was damaged by high winds, and hail. NOrmal for our SPRinG here in the high desert.
Our insurance covered it. We got a lovely new roof with us paying about 10% of it! Woot!
Yesterday, I get cancellation from insurance, because we have a damaged roof!
I had to go thru all the paper work!
in my handy dandy file.
Call them, roofer and get PAPER proof the roof was fixed!

I feel rather grown up, having it all together. Well semi, the roofer sent bill, but we don't actually have receipt. I called them this morning, and they will send us proof of completion letter. (Seriously, did you know you had to have that)

Do you still have PAPER file folders? Am I archaic, or is there a better way??

Yup ... we do. It is over flowing and needs to be purged and better organized. I keep all the medical/personal, household warranties/receipts, kids stuff. And the hubby keeps all the financials, mortgage, taxes info in his drawers.

I bet it feels good to get all that done and checked off your list!

I still have paper file folders but fewer than I used to. I love it when a store offers to email me a receipt instead of giving me a printed one.

Evernote is helping me be more paper-free. It's a slow journey though, going digital.

And there are some things I'm afraid to go completely digital. I have switched all my bills and bank statements over to digital (except the trash company, which is still old fashioned and doesn't offer it). But I still want to receive paper statements for my investments. What if the digital age crashes and I need paper proof of my savings? ;)

I do. I'm happy that over the years things have gone from a 3 drawer file cabinet to my 1 file box. I'm looking forward to 2017 when I can purge a bunch of stuff from 2010 from taxes! Seriously, that's probably 1/4 of my file box - the last 7 years of taxes.

You made me think though. I need to go check and see the dates on some other things and find out when I can purge them!

We keep receipts for everything. My problem is I am not consistent in where I put them. So when we need something, we always have to go digging thru a few drawers and bins to find them. I need to be more organized in organizing LOL.

A lot of our things are digital now, but we still have loads of paper. Hubby keeps receipts for the month in envelopes. He does purge regularly. I can't tell you how many times his receipt envelopes have come in handy for returning items, verifying purchase, etc.

Very few paper files except for a medical folder that is in a 3 ring binder. Should I ever become really ill, it more or less has my medical history. yes, this is a sign of age!

Where I have the most paper 'files' etc are things related to scrapbooking. When I end up printing instructions on how to do something, I usually save them because I've learned that I need to have instructions in another format when I am trying to do something on the computer. Looking at two screens gets me befuddled. At least I'm not like my friend who has to write the instructions in her own handwriting to get it. All her stuff looks like Susan Branch books.

I keep all receipts because I'm a tax whiz. LOL. Really it is only because we have high sales tax in WA and can deduct it off of our income tax. They have a flat rate deduction, but we're always several thousand over it, so I hoard every. stinking. receipt. Even if it is $.08 tax. Drives Tim crazy, but he's sure happy when it is time to file taxes.

My grandma had that happen with the roof. It was wind damaged, the insurance paid for it to be fixed, but then they canceled her because she'd made a claim. I don't think insurance companies should be allowed to do that. It is ridiculous.

Yes, my husband keeps a paper file on almost everything we pay. It took me the longest time to even get him to try on-line payments. Still, I think the only bills that get paid on-line are our cell phones and the home equity loan. He still balances the check book and writes checks for all the other bills.

He's an engineer. What else can I say!?

DH pays some bills online but I too want some bills sent in paper form. Investments are sent in paper form too. You never know what could happen. I keep house stuff, but I would be SOOOO annoyed if they told me they'd canceled our policy cuz of a mistake like that, @AnneofAlamo! We haven't had an issue like that (*knock on wood*) but we did have to buy a new fridge a few months ago and our garage door spring broke too, so I kept that paper work for when we sell and I have to remember when those things were replaced lol. DH doesn't care about paper work. He's much more... not good with that stuff rotfl!

I am mostly digital but still file some things. I pay all our bills online and I like that much better.

I pay most bills online, but I really like to have a paper bills... even for the ones I pay online. I know, I know, and it drives my hubby crazy. But what if we need the receipt... my paper hoarding has come in handy several times when we've needed to return something or prove that we've already paid a medical bill. I've gotten a little behind on my filing so I have a pile, but it's on my to-do list and I'll purge and shred when I file it.

@AnneofAlamo - what insurance company do you have? That's terrible they would cancel you. We've had USAA forever and have made claims and luckily they've never dropped us. I would be freaking out that we didn't have insurance while it was being resolved... I'm a worrier!

I called them this morning, so so sweet.
I just have to send them pics of the roof and our bill from the roofer and we are all okay.
apparently, they have the roof as damaged and never fixed...
argh
but
when that check came...I admit to thinking...can I deal with that roof and have this money!? lol
but we went thru a licensed roofer (thankfullY)
we are bundled with Geico house, car
stillwater insurance

we do the same division and have 3 huge filing cabinets in the office/study/computer room - it's not all paper work but 1.5 are full of it - there's probably stuff in there we can get rid of (warranties for like 2 toasters ago) but we havent even thought about that really - and there's a 'too be sorted' pile on top a few months deep... my bank statements & phone bills are the only paperless thing i get

I always make sure I have paper copies of my bank statements and retirement/investments... never know when some hacker might delete everything. I want proof of how much money I should have in those accounts.

My husband is obsessed with keeping paper copies of all the really important stuff! We are fast running out of room to house it all!!! I make him throw the really old stuff out from time to time though !!! I pray that he never ever needs them else we will have to have a separate house just for his papers!!! Lol

Papers, papers everywhere in my world! Most all my bills are online, but I still have lots of files with lots of stuff.
And don't get me started on insurance. Mine was cancelled a few years ago because of a measly $2000 claim. I've lived in the house and had paid to that insurance company for 25 years. It's taken me another 3 years to get off of the "high risk" rates. UGH.

That must have been scary to think they were going to cancel you! Yikes! I'm glad it's all working out okay.

I am another paper saver. I have also needed to go back through many times to look for reciepts or papers for various reasons, so it's been nice to have them. I also love when I'm able to shred a box of older papers/receipts and get them out of the house!
