Something to think about.... are you being watched??

I have a desktop, so my webcam is a separate device that I easily unplug, unless I'm using it.

That creeps me out! Seriously, these crazy people! Get a job and work hard or find a non-creepy hobby or go volunteer or something instead of peeping at people. Ugh!
 
My laptop gets little use, but be sure that the camera, which I didn't think I'd ever used; is getting taped up immediately, that's just scary!
 
ok i'm freaked out and havent even clicked Ona's link yet- but i've seen enough criminal minds type shows to get the idea - this laptop is usually covered in post-it notes but i'll have to tape some on specifically now!
 
@bellbird Justine I know! I watch those criminal mind shows too and they are freaky!! when I used to work I remember an IT guy telling me way back in 2009 to tape my camera............ I thought he was being paranoid but I did it and have been doing it ever since! lol! I have some pretty washi tape staring back at me..... black with grey flowers so they can't see through it!! :rofl:rofl

i have read so many 101 uses of washi lists and never come across that! that is genius! good one! (i now have a neon green post-it mini sticky taped to mine ;) - thanks for the public service announcement!
 
I have a sticky over mine since my son told me to do it a couple years ago. That's his field of expertise so...

I have blue painters tape over my camera (it's a 3D one, to boot). DH laughed at me...now I'm gonna show him this article!
 
This was covered in my technology course over the summer. We had to watch a TED talk & there were so many things I'd never even thought of. Even Mark Zuckerberg, with all of his money, has a piece of tape over his camera.
 
Omg!!!! My eyes are super wide open now! Lol :) this article is the first thing I read and my mind is exploding on so many levels now - this stuff is supposed to happen only in the movies!!!

Right now my camera faces a wall - so I'm hoping anyone who might hack is bored out of their minds! Lol :) but I'm definitely putting a sticky on the camera now ....
 
I have never covered my camera, but I'm a little freaked out now. Of course, if they are watching me now with my bed head and leftover make-up (my regular at the computer look), they're probably switching it off quickly haha.
 
I'm in 100% the washi tape over the desktop/laptop camera camp too! All of our computers are ... my kids do it on their phones too, but I use my iPhone camera too much.

I read an article last week (have to remember where I saw it) that is happening on way more than just desktops/laptops/etc. Any smart device can lead to spying/hacking and some of the most vulnerable items are those smart devices in your home that are plug and play and often never get the firmware updated ... I have to find that article ...
 
I know this. I have many students with washi tape on their laptops. I have done it before as well. But now I have this pretty iMac and it has a webcam too but covering it up would look SO ugly! I don't wanna. It does sit in my bedroom though and I hardly ever turn it off, it's always on sleep mode. Ugh.
