EarPiercing at a Tattoo Parlor - article on why

I can totally see this as an option. I think it depends on what parlor you choose, though, as far as the cleanliness. Interesting article.

Interesting! I took my daughters to Claire's many years ago for ear piercing and never even thought of the possibility of an alternative. Luckily we didn't have any big problem. But I kind of wish I had known we could have gone to a tattoo parlor; that would have been fun!

Thanks for sharing the article! I had my nose and my third ear piercing done at tattoo parlors but it never occurred to me to take DD to one. I figured kids weren't even legally allowed in the place (kind of like a bar doesn't want people under 21). Plus the cost was less than I paid!
I will admit the idea of doing both ears at once worries me cuz what if one person is off just a little, but it seems like they measured really well. My DH would love that they used calipers. (He's a scientist...and a nerd rotfl.)
All I can say is, if you're an adult but not happy with your piercing, maybe you should contact your local tattoo parlor so they can correctly measure and repierce you; or, if you've got a child who wants their ears pierced, let the first time they go to a tattoo parlor be with you. I wish I had done that. But who knew, right?

I just got my ears done a couple years ago and I was told the same thing. Went and the person who does it at the Tattoo place and they just didn't show up for work that day so..... long story short my girls would not let it go once I decided to get it done so went to the mall instead.

Claire's is kind of like a store for cheap jewelry, right? They don't sell real gold or silver? That's the kind of stores you're talking about when you say you went to the mall?
I'm asking because we don't really have malls here and I'm trying to understand. In my country most people go to a jewelry store (like a real, proper one, that doesn't sell the fake stuff that gets green) to get their ears pierced. Obviously we have the cheap stores too, but they don't pierce.
I do believe that the jewelry stores use the same method as described in the article. I only know people who get it pierced and then afterwards they put the earrings in. But that may have changed over time.
For anything other then the basic ear piercing, you go to a tattoo and piercing parlor. It makes sense to do the basic ear piercing there too. Never thought of that though.. Funny.

@berniek Yes you described Claire's perfectly. I've heard some stories that the employees aren't trained very well for piercings, but I didn't get mine done there. I don't know any fancy jewelry stores that do piercings, but I don't visit many fancy jewelry stores haha! I got my ears pierced at a jewelry counter in a department store in the Philippines.

I wonder if any 'real' jewelers do piercing. There must be people who buy gold earrings and need their ears pierced for them. ???
