Instant Pot Anyone?

by the photos...I take it is a pressure cooker but electric?
I have a normal pressure pan, the one you lock and put on the stove.....
In Brazil everyone has one, because out main dish is rice & beans, either black beans (Rio and surroundings) or the ones called mulato beans, which are brown, in the north & north east..
The pressure cooker cuts the time of cooking the beans in less than half, so everyone has one.
I'm gonna need to look at this instant one, but don't think I will be able to buy one too soon... no much money around here and Sarita didn't get the loan for Uni.
I use the slow cooker a lot when I'm ok, but I have not cooked a proper meal in at least a couple of months, but things may change soon...
Love the look of the instant one!!!

Yes, it's an electric pressure cooker...it can also work as a slow cooker. Someone mentioned that it's an Asian thing...when I was looking at the instruction booklet the 2nd half was in Chinese...so I guess that's true!

@Lynnette Would you share that group please? I'm thinking about getting this for my daughter who is trying to really earn money now working double shifts. This would be easy for her to leave instructions for her bf and her daughter. Between one man and a ten year old I think they can figure a recipe out!

The last thing I need is another kitchen gadget, but I must say it does intrigue me. I'm constantly on the run and have little time to cook these days. I don't even have time to do the crock pot!

Does this thing do well with 1 to 2 serving meals? And veggie dishes? I must cook a separate meal for myself and usually don't because of the time it takes. My birthday's coming up, so this could be a good thing to put on my wish list.

I would love to know about this too....
I love LOVE our crock pot but lately, with me not having help here and Sarita working so many hours, the situation is that we are starving and need something that cooks fast, so we have been on microwave food or pizzas & pot noodles....
maybe this pot could be a good investement?

yes to small amounts!!! yes and yes!! but gak, my pinto beans were HORRIBLE...have to find a better recipe for them...lol
I did 3 chicken breast with taco seasoning and one cup of water 20min? and they were so juicy and easy to shread. I made chicken tacos with them last night and feed 6 of us, and had left overs for burritos today...just gonna put in flour torts, pan sear and put green chile' sauce over the top...mucho bueno!

This is me!! I so don't need another gadget, but I am definitely intrigued! Seems like it could be life changing once school and all of the assorted activities are back in full swing.

I'm definitely intrigued, but my memories of a pressure cooker that it looks like it will explode on your stove. lol! My great grandmother used hers all the time and I was always warned not to go near the stove, so I guess I have to say that they kind of scare me. lol! I use my slow cooker a lot. With two boys that play hockey and myself being a shift worker, it really helps us save time and money. I just dont' know if I can jump into this insta pot thing. But I may change my mind...

I had a regular stovetop pressure cooker a while back & practically killed it. That thing was scary though, always seemed like it was going to blow up. I'd like to try this one.

Yes!!! I have a pressure cooker but never use it because I'm scared. LOL. I remember my grandma cooking with one, and it always made me nervous.

I'll have to check out the instant pot.

I've been looking at it ever since this post. This is exactly the kind of Christmas gift my mom likes to get me, practical. Last year I got the Keurig machine & a giant box of coffee & cocoa cups. When I'm in school, I don't cook much at all. I have a slow cooker, but I don't like the idea of it cooking/being on while I'm at work. We'll see.

I remember my mom using a pressure cooker when we were kids ... it was a frightening thing, always wondering when the whistle was going to blow. I would stand there thinking ... is it going to blow now? ...... now? ......now?

Yes to small portions! Yes to one pot cooking! It has a saute feature that I used the other night! I was able to brown my chicken and then pressure cook it for about 5 minutes and it was done! I haven't tried veggies in it yet, but I heard it only takes like a minute to steam them!

While it cooks really fast it does take a little time to 'heat up'. It took about 5 minutes to heat up before I could steam the chicken, and it says on the instructions it can take anywhere from 10-40 minutes to heat up depending on what you are cooking, if it's frozen, etc...

My friend has cooked her main dish then takes it out and steams veggies really quick in it. You can really do everything in it. It can also work as a slow cooker, so you can replace that if you already have one. In my case I'll probably keep both just because of our large family....I can slow cook in one and make veggies in the other.

I have a regular pressure cooker from my Dad that I haven't used yet but want to.. growing up my Grandma made Lamb Shanks in it.. it was by far my brother's and my favorite meal.. I have since gotten a recipe from a friend's aunt that made them in the oven and I have done them that way, but I miss doing it the way G'Ma did hers. I did make it with Dad at his house once... going to try here, but that instant pot looks interesting.. going to have to think about this... it is just the two of us and not sure if it will be worth it since I already have the slow cooker too and the micro :)

@cookingmylife the group is called Instant Pot Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/InstantPotCommunity/?ref=nf_target&fref=nf

I have a stove top pressure cooker that I've only used once or twice because I'm scared of it! For whatever reason the IP doesn't worry me at all. Tonight I put FROZEN chicken tenders in with some salsa, a bit of water and fresh cilantro, set it to 30 min and had perfect shredded chicken for tacos. Of course it takes a bit longer than 30 min because that doesn't count the time it takes to come to pressure and the time to release the pressure, but I love that I can just throw frozen meat in there and it's perfectly tender and flavorful and ready to eat in under an hour.

You can make small portions in the IP, and veggies are really fast. It is pretty handy- I will use it for things like rice, beans, meat, hard boiled eggs but I don't see it as something I will use more than once or twice a week. One tip is to turn it on saute right away, even if you aren't using the saute function because it starts heating up and will come to pressure more quickly once you seal and set it. Another thing to remember is you have to have a certain amount of liquid in the pot in order to come to pressure.

Thanks @Lynnette I'll be checking that out.

fwiw, I do have a real pressure cooker and used it quite a bit when we got it. My husband knows how to use it more than I do because he spent a good bit of vacation time with his older married sister in Idaho/Alaska when he was a teen. When fuel was scarce the pressure cooker was a godsend since it cooked things that needed long cooking much faster.

@cfile Dick loves any kind of shank and usually has them in Europe when we're there but I've yet to find them in supermarkets here or the one time I did you'd think I was buying filet it was so expensive. I may have to try one of the big Hispanic markets one day but the lines are sooo long at the butcher's department there.
