I was getting that... but yesterday, I got through for my boys. If you are on phones, there is a Google way to set it up... though that way is not available on the iPad, that I can tell. It's fun to do with the boys!

Tell me about this Google way... :)

On your phone, if you DL the app, there is a way to sign on/in via Pokemon Trainer or via Google. Just choose Google and then enter your gmail and password. If this is for you, you can use your gmail. If this is for your kids, just create a new account/gmail for them.

Kids and email... I've got gmails (separate from my gmail account) for my kids for games like this and such, not that they use email much, lol... but sometimes games send newsletters and freebies, so I set up almost dummy email addresses for my kids. It does not show their true birth names, birthday (I use mine again and again), and does not show their gender. There are no contacts, and I know passwords to check the accounts occasionally.

Let me know if that helps, Yolanda! If not, give me a holler! :attention

The game also works when you are riding in the car. My kids rode around with me today and had varying luck with it. One issue is that the game drains your battery big time. My daughter's GPS is not quick enough when driving for her to get all that she wanted. The iPod via my phone's hotspot works better. I think it know you are driving because it lets you do things without getting out of the car. Obviously the driver should not play while driving at the same time.

I have also seen it work without them getting close to the spot. So standing in the street ought to get one in someone's backyard.

Our local minor league baseball team opened their ball park this afternoon because it is a special spot for the game. A friend's kid went and got 100+ Pokemon. Said the place was packed.

Release day in UK ... and my almost 25 year old daughter has designed herself (or whatever the correct term is), found Charmander in our lounge and burnt her pizza in the process. All is good - apparently :nope (we need a Pokemon smilie) :thumbsups

I've heard of it but my kids haven't. I gonna try my hardest to keep it that way. lol But once school starts, I'm sure he'll hear about it. He doesn't have a phone and I don't plan to share mine :-p

I wonder how the schools are going to handle this when school starts up again? Maybe it will calm down by then...

My 12 year old son sits in the passenger seat next to me when I am driving and manipulates both of our phones at the same time. LOL He's pretty good at managing them both like that! We also wander a bit in our routes, and taking the expressway less, just to pass more PokeStops. We don't get them all, and we'll skip the ones that are too far off route, but it's fun chasing them down and seeing what we get.

I honestly don't understand some of the things the I have heard people are doing to play the game, but I expect that this is normal behavior that is only getting attention because the media can draw attention to it by blaming Pokemon Go! I think most people playing are not as rude as the news implies.

There is a church behind the high school; we were there so that my husband could pick up a few things. While my son was waiting for us, he went to the edge of the school's parking lot to try to reach the PokeStop at the church, but he couldn't get close enough. It is just a little grassy hill between the two parking lots, and the church's parking lot was empty (so I didn't give him any direction) but he told me he didn't want to cross over and trespass. He thought it would be okay, but preferred to stay respectful of the church's property. I have been warning him to keep on eye on where he is going when he's hunting, and I guess it has sunk in.

In general, I think it is great that, even though people are staring at their phones just as much as they ever did, they are also more aware of and interacting with the people around them. People watching is getting fun again!

mm nope.
and I have to say, I m glad I didn't LOL
I remember the pokemon times years ago....I think it was my brither who loved the TV thing? or colected cards?
anyway, old and grumpy here LOL

I had no idea about this too... Perhaps not available in Europe, I don't know.
My boys are 7 and 5 and I won't talk about it. They'll hear about it soon enough...

My husband plays. And the gazebo in our backyard is a gym. Sadly, that means people wandering in and out at all hours.

But on the bright side, we went for a long walk with no complaints because the munchkin was trying to catch Pokémon with daddy. P

First of all, I want to say that I think it's great you guys went for a walk. Enjoying time together as a family is always a good thing! In fact I just saw 3 brothers walking here, each with a phone, and I asked if they were playing Pokémon. They were. :) But I'm curious, how is your backyard a gym? How does Nintendo decide where to place gyms? Shouldn't they be in actual public places, eg malls, public parks, etc, that can be verified as public meeting places? You know, places with VERIFIED addresses (not just random "Google businesses")?

I'm so tempted by this game, but I have yet to download it. I'm worried I might be the one to get hooked!
My kids don't know what it is yet....they don't even know what Minecraft is (shhhhh!).
I will probably stay way...just not sure about it...but it sounds so fun!

The map is based on a previous game called Ingress. I can't remember all the details, but the Ingress points were changed to the Pokeman stops/gyms, and they were created based on the cell data that was used there or something like that. Ingress wasn't near as big as Pokemon Go is! So, a heavily used area (I live in an apartment complex right now) would be a more popular point. My apartment faces the gazebo, and the easiest path from entering the complex is right by my patio to the gazebo. The big park a few miles from my house is loaded with gyms and stops and Pokemon.

Personally, I'm waiting for Nintendo to let businesses buy the opportunity to be a gym or Pokespot to get people to visit them! There's a really good article about restaurants and Pokemon and how some are embracing it, and encouraging the extra business, and some are discouraging it based on the type of place they are. I don't think Nintendo intended it to be so big, or to cause so many issues with privacy and trespassing!

I'm a little jealous of this! My son learned what it was from cousins and my siblings. There is a cool learning component to it though. And so far he doesn't realize you can play online! That I will keep a secret.

Pokemon Go is really a fun family thing. You can have the AR turned on and take silly photos posing with the Pokemon, or turn the AR off to save battery.

@bestcee all that makes sense. :) Thanks for explaining it! And if I were a business owner I hope I'd be open to the players as long as they didn't bother paying customers.
