It's the last week of school here... and it's stressing me out :giggle

Anyone else struggle with all of the parties and teacher gifts and awards ceremonies and bad attitudes?

Part of me just wants it DONE, but part of me is sad about becoming the ringleader for this circus all day, every day for the next 3 months. Don't get me wrong, I love having my kids at home, but they become bored by 8 am and I am not that mom who entertains them all the time. So, I become that mom who listens to them whine :giggle

It's that time of year again! What are your feelings?

Oh goodness! I hadn't even thought about end of the end teacher gifts! Yikes! I better pull something together, huh? We have one more week after today... but most of the schools have two weeks after this week. We only get out earlier because we are a Lutheran school and get to set our own schedule. We started a week earlier than public schools, so we could get out earlier. Yay! :)

I'm SO looking forward to summer. I love that my kids have a break. They get bored, but not too much because we still pay a teen boy to come and play with them in the afternoons. It's only $20 an afternoon and is totally worth it. He gets them outside and active and they love his crazy brand of fun. :) Anyway, we dont' have sports other than tennis lessons in the morning which are a block away and they can ride their bikes to. So they can stay up late and sleep in and generally just enjoy being kids. I love it!

this is my last days of public school! I am doing happy dance! I will be done with them forever!! my 11 year old wanted to come home the beginning of the month, and I told him he worked hard, enjoy the parties!!
He left this morning, and said, one more day, and I am home with you forever! I about cried!!
I am so proud of him, he got student of the month, and is at a baseball game today with his class!
Friday is NO school, Thursday is his awards ceremony in the morning, and we are leaving right after to go to the river to play and laugh!
I love summer! I do I do !!

We have another 3 1/2 weeks! Ugh! lol!

Our end of the year is particularly crazy this year. Clara is graduating from 8th grade and they make a crazy big deal about it here in Chicago (maybe because all elementary schools are K-8? who knows!). This week is spirit week with the big dodgeball tournament on Friday. Next Tuesday is their last day of school (they get out a week and a half before the rest of the school), Wednesday is graduation mass and pin day ceremony, that night is the school run dinner and awards ceremony. Thursday night is graduation. Friday night is the parent organized dinner dance. Saturday is a day off from the craziness and Sunday most of the class is doing the Color Run together. The following week, while everyone else is still in school, there are usually parent organized activities everyday for the graduates... bowling, Six Flags, Cubs game, etc. Seriously, nothing else in her life will live up the hype of her 8th grade graduation.

While all of this is going on, my son is still in school and will be until 6/21 since he's in public school.

I'm not looking forward to this summer really. We're entering/in that stage where friends trump everything else. My son (16) wants to stay home and work all summer, plus do some School of Rock stuff and hang out with friends. That means no travel with him and little without since I'm not sure how I feel about leaving him alone. Clara's still game for travel, but she has 4 required dance intensives to attend. And to complicate things further, her first day of high school is 8/15 (it's actually 8/17, but the two required freshman orientation days start on the 15th) and Alex's first day of school won't be until 9/6 (or later if the teachers strike happens).

We homeschool. In fact, we unschool. That means learning from life all the time. Summer means different activities and more time outside but otherwise not a big change.

I love having my kids around a lot. Yet I am an introvert. They are quite self-directed. Only one still sometimes complains about boredom. I make some suggestions but she usually says no to all of them and then I tell her I'm sure she'll think of something. A few times, too, I've said, "Only boring people get bored." Because there are more things I'd like to do than I can fit into my life, and I can think of many ideas for the kids too. I can hardly imagine being bored anymore.

That's me! I am my children's mother, not their play date. Yes, we'll play together, but not aaaaaaalllll day. Nope. No way. Ugh.

Anyway, we don't have huge plans this summer. I have a few little activities planned, so hopefully there isn't too much whining here. ;)

So jealous - we are not even half way through our year - so a month left until our next holidays - pretty cold here by then. hopefully can go somewhere warm for a few days!

Enjoy having the kids around - love sleep ins most of all...

oh I so miss the times when Sarita went to school ..so many pictures to scrap LOL
to us, it also meant we would be traveling, so it was a great time when school finished....
she will start Uni in October so I guess we will go back to some routine...I miss that!

Never been a bored kid at my house - I learned from my mom. "I'm bored = housework" So we quickly found something to entertain ourselves rather than do housework. Lots of windows to wash once the floors, toilets, etc. are clean.

Oh, I love this one (I did not come up with this) -- arguing kids get to clean baseboards! Started with a 2 ft wide section each - any complaints earned the complainer an additional 2 ft. An argument was defined by me as 1 kid said something and 2nd kid disagreed. My kids made it around the kitchen one and half times before they took me seriously on the no arguing.

Back to your original question -- I homeschool my daughter and I am not exactly sure when we will be done. She took 3 classes through a homeschool group and those finished at the end of April. She got behind in algebra so we are working on that until I think she has done enough. We are doing our End of Year testing this week. She has an every day babysitting job starting next week, so I guess we will be done by Memorial Day. College son has been home for 3 weeks.

1 and 1/2 days left! Tomorrow morning is awards for my son and last spirit assembly for my daughter! Thursday is half day and they are out for the summer. :) However, for us, since we both work full-time, summer means day camp, sports camp and basketball summer league for my kids :)

I hear you on the work thing. Adds a whole new level of stress to summer. When I worked full-time I had to hire a nanny for the summers. Now, I'm only part-time but I have 2 teen boys who have the responsibility of keeping the younger ones when I work. I don't hear them those days (mostly), although it's a funny thing... as much as I don't want to hear them whine, I don't want to be away from them more. Strange.

We do have a couple of big things planned to break up the summer and we have a pool that I throw them in often :)

a few more weeks here. i have no idea what i am going to do with my lazy, lounging teens this summer. should be interesting. gah!

My kids are in school til the 10th of June. I work full time though at the district office so they can't complain to me about how bored they are. They will be able to complain to each other. This is the first summer ever they haven't been in daycare. We work four 10 hour days in the summer so at least I'll have Fridays off to do something with them.

I am so over school. My college semester just ended & my summer classes start June 6th, before the kids are even out of school! I don't even wanna help the kindergartner with his homework cuz I'm just done! I better get those teacher gifts together, shoot.

My kids were out last week. I hosted a billion (ok, 10, but it FELT like a lot more) 9 year old girls for a last day of school bbq. So, that's done. My oldest graduated from high school (with double HONORS - so proud) on the 15th and most of the hoopla was in early May for it. Now, we are in the countdown to college...breaking my heart. *sigh* I love having my kids home and I really want this to be a beautiful, long summer, but I am sure it will go fast instead.

I did put big effort into the teacher gift for my 3rd grader because her teacher was AMAZING.

I am glad to have everything wrapped up and dive into the joys of summer.

Son got home from college last night. His dad helped him move everything into his room. He said hi to us, gave the dogs an ear scratch, and then went upstairs, closed his door, and passed out. It was so quiet that I kind of thought that maybe they had left the house. I peeked in his room and he was fast asleep.

Our school is moving their calendar this year and we start about 1 week and a half early. Summer will fly by. We are gone on a school trip the week after we get out. Then cheer starts back up in July.
