Hey everyone! I'm taking advantage of the shutterfly sale and was wondering if anyone had used the "digibook" photobook option? I'm just wondering how my pages will look. With other programs, I can just select a "whole page template" drop my page into it and make sure it fits in the box. This doesn't seem to work in Shutterfly... unless I'm doing something wrong. Any input would be great! I just want to make sure my page isn't cut off or anything. My pages are 12x12 made in the project life app so they have a bit of a white border. Also, I know there's a layflat option, do you choose this at the end? I've made a few photobooks in the past, just never with Shutterfly. Thanks!
When you print from Shutterfly, I believe, unless a lay flat book, it might cut off about 1/2 inch of the edges if you drop them right in. I think if you print lay flat you will be ok, if you print regular, you might have some cut off. Liz, has printed lay flat and standard books, and compared printing. When I make my album pages, I leave a 1/2 edge so it won't get off when printed. @Scrapping with Liz I'll look for her blog posts.

Yes, I've chosen that option when making my books. But sometimes Shutterfly doesn't like to play nice. It seems like with every upgrade, they make changes that are annoying. The last couple of books that I've printed there, I had to re-chose the page style for each page. It seems to revert back to another style even though I know I've chosen the digiscrap option. Very annoying, but in the end it all works out fine. I usually scrap 12x24 pages, so I upload the whole thing and insert as "to fill the spread" (or something like that"). You need to be careful on the edges. I use a set of free guides that are available on Scrapping with Liz's blog that remedy that situation. Since I've started using them regularly, I have not lost anything on the edges. Here's a link to the blog post - http://www.scrappingwithliz.com/2014/02/guides-video-tutorial-freebie.html Here's another tip that I've figured out when doing your cover. Somewhere on Shutterfly's site are templates for the their covers. Use them. You have to do the front, back, and side separately. But I don't like their spine template. It seems to enlarge what I've made, which then changes the color and makes it look weird. So, after I use the template to center my title, I then just move that to a 12x12 or 10x10 paper (depending on what size my book will be). Just be sure it is in the exact center of that paper, and then add that to the spine spot at Shutterfly, moving it to the correct location. That seems to correct the sizing problem that I've had in the past. I prefer the lay flat option. I chose all my options before starting my book - the size, the cover options, the page style option, etc.) It's all I've ordered in the past 3 years. I love the thick pages. Plus, you don't lose anything in the gutter. Sure, they cost more, but it's worth every penny.
Oh, and one more thing. You don't have to resize your 12x12 layouts if you decide to print 10x10 or 8x8 books. Just upload your layout and chose your size book. The pages will automatically resize. Remember, you can always size down, but not up.
@djp332 Thanks for all the info... So when you create a book, which option do you choose? I just picked digi scrap because I figured it would probably work with 12x12 but I seem to be having that problem. My first page fits perfectly. My second page, not so much. So frustrating! I think this is why I've never printed with shutterfly before. Lol
I pick the digiscrap option. Then I believe you need to choose the layout (which is located on the left side of the work area). You need to pick one big single photo. It seems you need to chose that each time you try to add the layout, which is a big PIA! It never used to be that way until recently.
I print at 10x10 and scrap at same. I use the digiscrap option. If you add pages, you have to manually select the full page photo. I keep my journaling and photos from the edges as a habit now! I have about 20 books printed from them, and the only sad is when I find the typo after! lol, but I love them. The spine is a bit tricky for scrapping the title, so I use their font on top of my paper.
I hope you got your questions answered. Shutterfly can be tricky. I know the one time I uploaded 24x12 pages and the next time I couldn't figure out how to do it so I did individual 12x12s. You do need to be careful on the edges no matter what pages you do. I wrote about that a little in my reviews.
Well I officially want to bang my head against the wall.... Nothing I do seems to work like I want it too. I hate making a cover, so I made a 12x12 LO in the project life app... of course, it doesn't fit the cover. Then I have to resize all my pages. I'm probably just tired of looking at it. Thanks @Scrapping with Liz and @djp332 for your help. I think I'm just used to the other photobook programs I've used and am having a difficult time wrapping my head around this one.
