Can I VENT!!!! Please!!!!

I chose to upgrade my work pc from 7 to 10 and have had absolutely no problems so far. My husband's personal pc updated automatically last night and he's not happy about it. Not that he has a problem with 10, just that they did it without his permission. Like you, he's been clicking no or later for months now. What's the point of asking if they're just going to do it anyway?

So it seems yesterday was the day that everyone got uploaded to 10---like it or not!

Yikes! At least when I upgraded to 10 I had plenty of time to back up everything just in case. How rude that they did it without your permission! That said, I do like 10 so much better than 8. I really hated 8. I don't love the new Edge (used to be called Internet Explorer) but I deal with it. What I think is funny is that ever since I upgraded to 10 NONE of my online Microsoft games work anymore. You would think they could upgrade their own stuff to be compatible with themselves. Right?!

AHA! So THAT'S what that Windows Edge is!!! I was wondering, and afraid to click on it.

I don't see much difference between 8 and 10, except the start menu added back in 8.1 no longer works in ten, but I never liked or used all those little squares anyway. They keep crashing chrome which is very annoying, but that happened in 8 as well.

I agree that was crappy of them to force the upgrade but 10 is better most of the time.
My computer won't allow me to use it unless I allow ALL the upgrades. If I don't run the updates it just slows down gradually till I can use it unless I click on upgrade and restart.
So annoying.

@NancyP have you had a chance to check out 10 yet? I'm sure you're still mad (and you should be), but I hope you're not hating 10 since it seems like you're stuck with it. :(

Man, that bites! I would not like an automatic updates. It seems super intrusive, not right! Hoping it works out and you like 10, Nancy!

I upgrade to 10 from Windows 7. I hate 8 so we skipped that one, and I have had no problems at all with Windows 10. It is pretty stinky that they upgraded you without your permission though. That should never be allowed! I hope that you like 10 though. :)

I've upgraded to 10 on two of our computers and, like everyone else, much prefer it to Windows 8.
I'm still holding out on my desktop as its 5 years old (running 7 nicely, thank you) and doesn't have much room left on the hard drive. I'd be pretty upset if I cam home to find that Microsoft had unilaterally decided to upgrade it too!

I like 10, A lot !But I must admit I don't like edge browser much, and have reinstalled explorer, because I am so not a "crome " fan either. . You can customise your settings @NancyP , so you don't have to have Cortana ,or tracking etc if you don't want to.

I've got 10 now and other than having all the apps in a start menu format, everything's running just as it always did.

ok, it's popped up on my computer again today but after hearing everyone say good things I'm going to upgrade

I have it, and I like it.
Like you, I really was very happy w/ 8.1 and didn't want to upgrade. For a while, after I finally DID upgrade, I was frustrated and thought I wanted 8.1 back. Then we had to reset my device for something non-W10-related, and my husband did me a 'favor' and put 8.1 back on it.... and I HATED it! After using 10 and going back to 8, I discovered that it really IS more intuitive and better put together.
Expect a learning curve, but give it a fair chance. You might find, like I did, that it's better than you thought it would be.

Ugh, that's so annoying that they updated without your permission! I would be so mad!
I use Mozilla Firefox in Windows 10, just like I always have in other versions. You can also make it so you don't have to look at the apps at all! My desktop just looks like a regular non-tablet wanna-be desktop that I had on my old win-7 mahcine. (well, as much as it can.) I have the little windows symbol on the left side of my screen and when I click it, up comes the apps and my Microsoft account and all that annoying stuff. I don't use edge or cortana. I have no idea how my dad set it all up like this. Yes, it's not perfect, but it makes more sense than Win8 or 8.1 does.

Coming home to a forced windows upgrade is not something anyone would want. You have every right to be upset.

I got a new windows 10 laptop for Christmas and while it is better than my kids' windows 8.1 machines, I miss windows 7. I'm not fond of microsoft forcing updates and whole operating system upgrades on people.

I just got back from picking up kids and it's been doing unsolicited updates for 20 minutes. I'm not sure when it will be done or even what it's updating. I wanna scrap but can't until it's finished. Thank goodness for the ipad so i can still surf. I sure hope microsoft doesn't decide to upgrade my old laptop from 7 to 10 because I'm sure there will be hardware problems. I'm still sliwly moving stuff off it and don't need a windows upgrade messing that up.

I upgraded to 10, and loved it. UNTIL all of the sudden, my START menu just stopped working. I would get an error dialog box, and would have to log off. Then I would log back in. If I hit the Windows key on my keyboard or clicked on it, I got that same stupid error. I thought I found a fix, but it only worked for a short time. I actually installed something called Windows Classic Shell so I could at least navigate on this darn computer! LOL

Recently, I tried another fix, and it's working so far, but I've still kept that Windows Classic Shell so if it freaks out again, I will at least be able to find my files!

So I will say that I do love it. I love the way it looks and operates WHEN it works. I'm trying to keep in a positive attitude about it all, but believe me, I've had a few rage episodes.

I did the early free upgrade to 10 and love it. I do admit to using the old windows browser as opposed to edge - edge doesn't always play nice with all of the sites I visit, but otherwise it rocks!

My son has an older computer. He has a few games that don't mesh well with 10, but otherwise he has had no problems either.

I had that same problem last week Cheryl but had forgotten about it until you mentioned it. I did some searching on google and found that I had to uninstall the dropbox taskbar program to get my start menu working again. It's working again, but I'm not sure if that was the true fix. I've heard rumors that it happened to random windows 10 computers and has been a problem that Microsoft has know about since win 10 was in beta, but they never fixed it. I hope that's not the case and that dropbox and microsoft can work it out, because I really miss having DB in my taskbar. I can go to the DB website, but it's not as convenient as having a DB folder on my computer.

I hadn't heard of the windows classic shell fix. And what was the other fix you just tried?

I've been trying to upgrade to 10 for weeks now and nothing happens. It keeps telling me to restart my computer and then it freezes on the shouting down window. I also have a gamer graphic card and I'm wondering if that's the problem.

I never saw that about DropBox, but I don't have it in my taskbar anyway!

Here's the link to what I tried ~ proceed at your own risk! I can't vouch for the safety, I just know it worked for me (and I don't know for how long LOL):
