I promise not to yell, swear, spit or all that stuff, although I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to! For months now I have been getting these pop up windows inviting me to upgrade to Windows 10 and I have been politely saying No Thank You! I am very happy with my Windows 8.1. I know my way around. I know how to do things. I am contented! SO, I go shopping this afternoon and when I get home and walk into the living room, there is my computer with this HUGE message on the screen that says WELCOME TO WINDOWS 10!!!!! Yep, they upgraded me without my permission. Just went in and screwed around, took off my 8.1 and now, like it or not I have 10!! How can they do this???? Have we no rights anymore???? I have heard all sorts of horror stories about Windows 10----SO---do any of you have it and do you like it? How different is it from 8 or 8.1 and am I going to have a really difficult time finding stuff and finding my way around? AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! Oh, sorry, I promised not to yell, didn't I??

I'll find out soon. Mine is upgrading at 11:00 tonight. My husband has it on his computer and everything is hunky-dory for him.

I'm sorry Nancy! :( I had heard somewhere that Microsoft was going to start making people switch. I like 10. But, I didn't like 8, so IDK what that means for you lol. I like my task bar and I like my touch screen options.
One thing that I seem to have noticed is that the older your computer, the more it seems to hate Windows 10. Is that cuz of hardware problems? Is it simply that older computers tend to have so. much. stuff. on them already that adding big 10 makes the computer angry and sluggish? I just don't know. All I know is that I bought a new laptop in Feb and I love it. Love it!
BTW, Microsoft is forcing updates on users now. Like, it just updates for me and I have no way of turning it off. Like you, I don't like that. It seems invasive and also annoying: I bought a computer with Windows 7 on it cuz I hated 8 so much. I would have sworn off computers completely if Windows had forced me to "upgrade" to 8.

I hate and love my puter! and I really really hate having to do something...like I will fight it even if I want to do it!
that being said
I really like 10. A LOT

I like 10 way more than 8. I can actually find things. But doing it without your permission is awful. I know some work at home companies that have software that are incompatible with 10.

I agree that you should have the option and it shouldn't be forced on you, but I do have Windows 10 and like it much more than 8. No problems at all so far.

Oh, my husband is not going to like it at all if that happens to him! Poor guy has enough trouble with technology as it is. It is crummy of Windows to force you to upgrade, and you absolutely should have the choice not to!

I'm going to go hug my Mac now...

Well, you all have sure made me feel a lot more at ease. I haven't even looked around yet. I am curious, what is the Touch Screen Option?? Guess I am going to have to get a new book; Windows 10 for Seniors and throw away my Windows 8.1 for Seniors. And I learned so much from that book!!!!!

I agree with Jan...while forcing an upgrade is an ugly practice, 10 is MUCH better than 8. I hated 8 and 8.1 even after spending a lot of time customizing. I settled into 10 quickly with almost no tweaking needed. It's much more intuitive and I've personally found it to be more stable than 8.

We have 10. I still had 7 and my daughter told me how horrific 8 was, so I skipped that, but now have 10. The only real problem I have is when Microsoft decides to update security and it will disable Chrome... soooooo frustrating. I don't want to use Internet Explorer (and in fact despise it), so that is totally annoying to have to deal with. My laptop is dying a slow death, but I guess I can't blame it on 10. :giggle I think if you had 8, you won't have trouble finding your way around.

But yeah, I get that it is annoying and invasive. :/ Ugh.

I didn't know they were doing that! I signed up for 10 before it came out. So, I got the first wave. I haven't had any problems with it. It's more like using my phone or tablet. One bonus is it feels like the recent files are more readily available. It helps when I'm using 3 different kits for byoc. I just alternate between the folders without having to have all 3 folders open at once.

My husband swears 10 is the best thing since sliced bread. I didn't really notice the difference, other than his laptop now rules the desktop, too, since they're linked to his email. So, he changes his background image, and the desktop image changed too. ( I think he's since fixed that.)
And the app thing. I don't just go to Netflix website, I go to Netflix app. That's all well and good since I'm used to that from my phone, but it was a slight difference as far as what I was used to on the computer.

I chose to upgrade my work pc from 7 to 10 and have had absolutely no problems so far. My husband's personal pc updated automatically last night and he's not happy about it. Not that he has a problem with 10, just that they did it without his permission. Like you, he's been clicking no or later for months now. What's the point of asking if they're just going to do it anyway?

Like everyone else, we much prefer 10 to 8 - we had 8 for onlt a little while but it caused my husband to swear to much so we dropped back to 7 until 10 came out. Takes a little bit of getting used to but it's fine. I hate the whole upgrading without permission though, so intrusive!

I think the last time I used Windows was XP but I feel for you on the technology frustration. My computer was in the repair shop all weekend and has a new hard drive, but things aren't all better as I expected and it's going to have to go back. I love technology when it works!

Good luck with the upgrade. I hope you find many things to like about it!

My husband upgraded and right after the 30 day window to revert back expired, it decided it wasn't compatible with his graphics card. His computer was only two years old and was a higher end gaming system. After taking it to the Geek Squad and having two different IT guys come to the house to look at it, we got him a new computer. I keep getting the pop ups saying it's going to convert on my work laptop and home pc . . . I'm resisting as long as I can!

Yikes! At least when I upgraded to 10 I had plenty of time to back up everything just in case. How rude that they did it without your permission! That said, I do like 10 so much better than 8. I really hated 8. I don't love the new Edge (used to be called Internet Explorer) but I deal with it. What I think is funny is that ever since I upgraded to 10 NONE of my online Microsoft games work anymore. You would think they could upgrade their own stuff to be compatible with themselves. Right?!

I wonder if I have the same graphics card? I tried valiantly to upgrade to 10 when it came out. But, it won't go through because it says my graphics card is incompatible. And mine is intended for gaming as well. It was the easiest way to make sure it would run my scrapping stuff!

I'm a little odd though, and I actually like Windows 8.1. I turned off the automatic update feature on my computer though, so I don't think it will push 10 through? I hope it works out for you Nancy!

I haven't had any problems with 10.

I'm not sure how the touch screen in 10 would be different from in 8.1, but if your computer doesn't have a touch screen then it's irrelevant anyway.
