Pour Over Coffee...

DUDE!!!!!! That is one awesome coffee machine. lol

This is my machine that sits with all its wonder on my counter!
yeah I may have an addiction! I use ground Starbucks Espresso (almost a full cup)(but at discount at Walmart) in each pot. A full pot in the time it takes to make one Keurig cup and ooooooooooh so dark and rick!
We used to have the regular BUNN
but, we entertain ALOT! and have a house full of Coffee drinkers too. Two burners are a must! I also have 2 caraffes that hold a pot each and stay hot for up to 12 hours! lol

Y'all are hilarious. I LOVE my coffee and have tried nearly every method for brewing it. I even used a stovetop percolator once. You know, the old pot that boils on the stove and makes a glorious pop pop pop sound. It was yummy.
I will say that I am a bit of a snob. I hate weak coffee and I also hate super dark bitter coffee. Finding the right machine that requires little in the way of maintenance has had me stumped.
Yesterday I finally decided on a pour over version. Just a little over the cup thing for $3. I want the $40 chemex so badly but I couldn't justify the cost when I didn't know if I would like it. lol

I never heard of Chemex! Had to go google it. Interesting. Is the coffee a lot better that way? For every morning use I use a cheap drip coffee pot. I do grind my own beans though. Occasionally in the afternoon (if I'm freezing cold) or if I have friends over I'll French Press some coffee. That's the best!

I have gotten a pour over at Starbucks regularly. The chemex is supposed to be similar. The starbucks one I get is always amazing. No bitterness. No leftover taste from hard water in the brewer...I am thinking the Chemex would be really good as long as it was kept clean.
Fresh ground beans are the best. I keep my beans in a sealed mason jar to keep them from drying out/loosing the natural oils. So good.

We use Keurig, but it's soo expensive. It seems to be running a bit sluggishly, and my husband has said when it goes we are going back to regular drip. He barely touches the stuff and I mix mine with so much peppermint mocha creamer, the quality of coffee doesn't matter. hahahah

Me too! I don't know what these things mean. I have a Hamilton Beach Keurig -like system. I picked it because it's red, as are the rest of my appliances. The 8yr old & I use it the most. I have vanilla lattes & he has hot cocoa. Brody says Grandma gave he & I the coffee maker for Christmas. Lol.

I have the Cuisinart version of the Keurig. I don't drink a lot of coffee and I'm tired of storing all those k-cups. I bought a French Press from IKEA and some Starbucks coffee to try in it, but I haven't used it yet.

I could not live without my Keurig. I think we are on our 3rd one. I only drink it a cup at a time so the Keurig is perfect for me. I did buy my husband a French press several years ago but there were to many steps and to much time just for a cup of coffee but he really liked it.

I love my Keurig. There's no going back for me!

We use a Keurig at the moment and I haven't used any of the other methods. I do want to try cold brew out though. I got a tin of cold brew packets in a Christmas gift and I haven't had a chance to use them yet. This is what I have. You apparently soak the packet in water for a couple of days in a pitcher and then drink from there. It's supposed to not be as bitter tasting. I really should try it out soon.

I love my Keurigs I have 4 of them lol One here at home, one at work, a small one that I take when we travel, and one that my daughter is currently using at her house. I can't imagine every going back to regular drip. I just love the one cup at a time freshness. I can't really speak to the others as I haven't tried them. But I would say weigh the cost with the use you will get out of it and, if coffee is something you really love, I think maybe it's ok to splurge a little

Hubby and I have always loved coffee - and lots of it. We always wanted a fancy machine like my brother's (starts with a J but I can't remember now what it was called) but it was $800. Not happening. When hubby tried a Keurig somewhere he had a fit to get one but I knew that as much as we drank coffee it would wear out quickly. So, I hunted down and purchased a commercial grade Keurig and it has lasted almost 4 years with 6-10 cups a day brewed in it. I don't drink coffee anymore (tummy issues) but I use it to brew my hot tea. I don't think I will ever want a regular drip coffee pot ever again. Nasty! I do (did) love French Press coffee... I know the Keurig pods are pricey and an environmentalist's nightmare, but we recycle everything else and don't spend a lot of money eating out so the pods are our main luxury item.

This is me too...I don't know anything else or what even pour over and stuff means. lol! I never drank coffee until we got a Keurig and I love it so much!

I think we are coffee snobs around here. After a trip to Germany I convinced my husband we had to have this semiprofessional Saeco. The first thing all visitors to my house say, coffee? I also bought a keurig in a moment of desperation when my Saeco was out for repairs. The keurig still comes in handy for a whole pot with company. I have to say though, it's really all about the beans and the water and how clean whatever machine you use is.

Keurig is my nemesis. I hate it. I had mine for a year and within 2 months it starting running slow, spitting water all over the counter and the coffee tasted horrible. I clean it regularly, use a reusable filter AND pods, run filtered or bottled water only through it...Nothing made a difference. It was a huge waste of money for me. lol I know so many people that love them but I just can't. I still have mine in the bottom of the cupboard because it cost too much to just throw away. haha

I love my French Press but often end up using our drip coffee maker because it makes a larger quantity. I've resisted a Keurig so far because of the recycling issues but dd has one and I've liked having a choice of different blends.
What is "pour over" though??

I used a reusable pod with mine because I hated tossing all that plastic. Plus it was cheaper. A pour over is basically just a "cone" that you put a filter and grounds into then pour boiling water over.

Sorry - I'm no help. I don't drink coffee because of coffee breath. Icky stuff, it is!

This is how my hubby feels. He likes the smell of it brewing but won't come anywhere near drinking it. lol

My Keurig actually stopped pumping water after about 3 weeks of use. I googled it and found a simple little trick. The little hole behind the thing that pierces the top of the k-cup can become clogged with coffee grounds. Makes sense when you think about it. A paper clip or pipe cleaner turned around in there makes it pump like new!

Thank you! I may try that. I'm going to try to fix mine for quick fix days when I'm in too big a hurry to wait for water to boil. lol

Nancy that's about the same thing to do with a FitBit...clean the little connectors with a paperclip. Thank goodness paperclips are ubiquitous and beyond cheap.

Now back to our regular program...

Being a died in the wool tea drinker, I only came to coffee in the past few years via espressos in Italy. Now we have a Nespresso for our 3pm espressos. He's a Starbucks Sunatra drinker (gag....) and has his own pot for daily infusions. I occasionally wanted a cup of that sign of fall PumpkinSpiceLatte! So used a French press for a while and also made iced coffee in the summer. All decaf with Stevia so in effect...flavored water.

Then my college-aged grandson said he didn't use his Keurig and gave it to me. We went the route of various pods and those little gadgets that allow you to use your own coffee. Well my dh ended up spilling grounds all over...men!...and he went back to pods. Then the Keurig died (it had originally spent a year in Afghanistan with my son and really got heavy duty use) so I googled a machine that could make pods AND fresh grounds. So far we both like it a lot, though lazy man still wants his pods. Hamilton Beach Single Serve, Flex Brew.

I drink a full pot of coffee by myself, and share another with my husband almost daily. On the weekends, sometimes one more than that. pour over for single serve would definitely not be worth the time... but if it tasted better with regular coffee, I could be talked into a larger version.

I just throw the coffee into the pitcher and fill with water... then I wait (that's the problem with cold brew: you've got to think ahead) and pour the pitcher over a filter into another pitcher. (Those packets make that process a LOT easier: I should look into them!) Then I heat it up when I want it. I haven't made it in awhile. It's nice for parties cuz you can make a ton and keep it warm without worrying about it turning bitter.

Nooooo! You don't even need a cone for instant. It just goes right in the water and you dissolve it. I definitely do not use instant in my cone! I make deliciousness with my cone

Which Keurig did you have? There was a recall on one of the models for spitting water; I never had the issue, but I got the fix.

I have a Keurig mini-brewer -- one without a reservoir -- for traveling. My home machine is a Cuisnart because I had too many issues with the first two Keurig-branded ones. I took advantage of Costco's generous return policy and settled on the Cuisinart the third time because the person taking my return said, "Not as many of those come back." LOL

I think it's okay that you don't want to use it; I'm sorry you had so much trouble with it. I had to try a lot of kinds/types/brands of k-cup coffee before I found any that I liked -- I don't like the ones that come with the machines, and after getting three machines, I had a lot of them! Now I've found some I like a lot, and since our office remodel included a couple of Keurig machines, I've been drinking coffee at work too (I didn't before they appeared.)

I do cold brew in the summer with just a basic gallon pitcher. So yummy.

love this! I have to admit I do not drink coffee...... I'm the only one in my family here to not drink coffee. I'm a green tea snob I order loose leaf tea to make my tea.
We do have a Bunn coffee maker for when we need a large amount of coffee. FOR flavor (what I'm told) we also have a French press &

The men here LOVE it, the AeroPress. I can hear them now, as there is a whole system to it. Put the fresh grounds in pour the not quite boiling water over the grounds (boiling temperature makes the coffee bitter) stir the grounds and coffee for, I'm not even sure, lol, then press right into your cup. The grounds look like a hockey puck when you take it out of the press.

I have a Keurig and love it! I use it every day. BUT for something really nice, I do love brewing French Press coffee. My husband and I have it on Sunday afternoons as a treat.
