The loveliness of living in Chicago is that my kids do not currently and will not ever go to the same school. And because of this, they have completely different spring breaks (about a month apart). My son wants to stay here and work, but my daughter wants to go on a girls' trip for her spring break. She used to dance on a competition dance team and we would go to nationals together. Now she's at a place that doesn't do competitions, so she said that she'll miss our trips... awww.

Any suggestions for a few day getaway (I can't see us lasting a week together)? We had a blast at Disneyland together last summer, so that's been done. Although Disney World could be an option. We went to NYC as a family last summer and loved it. She really wants to go back, but it wasn't all that long since our last trip. Her spring break is in March, so it's on the early side. She's 14, a bit of a shopper (but not hard core), needs to be constantly doing something and isn't a huge fan of museums.

Thanks!

I love girls' weekends! Oh let's see....
San Francisco...weather will be nice and there's so much to do, including some shopping
Paris! In the Spring Time! (enough said)
Toronto is super fun and a short airplane hop for you, but the weather will still be icky
Disney is always a good idea too!

Yes! Disney is always a good idea!
San Francisco is always fun. There is a lot to do there.
I don't know that I've been anywhere else that she would enjoy....guess I'm not much help. :giggle

a live show? My girls and I went to see The Wizard of Oz, and we had such fun. I just looked at theater fun in Chicago...and this one looks amazing

Dinner and shopping in the big city...maybe a limo and go all out fun? mani/pedi laughter?

Great ideas Anne! But we live in the city of Chicago near all of this. In fact we saw Mamma Mia in November and have tickets for Lion King next weekend. We love the Broadway in Chicago shows! We also go to church on Michigan Avenue, across from Water Tower Place, so we're there every Sunday. We're looking to get out of town :-)

San Francisco is one I was thinking about.

And Paris... sigh. I would love to take her there. Hmmm... wonder if we could swing it?

Toronto isn't one I had thought of, but it's one to think about! My husband is there about every week for work.

And yes... Disney is always a good idea :-)

I'm a history buff... especially Revolutionary War (pre-, during, and post)... might not be your daughter's thing... I <3 Colonial Williamsburg. Want to take my girls there someday. My hubby and my sons do not share my affinity for history.

Washington, D.C. could be fun. There's shopping and the monuments... and the National Zoo.

St Louis is my favorite, but I don't think it would suit her, based on what you've explained. My suggestions would have been the arch, and the budweiser brewery :giggle not for her. Lol

Okay. Um... I love Kimberlee's Seattle suggestion, and I'd love to go there. You can come here, to Phoenix. There's shopping and entertainment. And me. Ha.
San Diego is another favorite... i love all the different areas there, and I would love to visit the San Diego zoo. But I hate the traffic, in case you're renting a car.

oh I would have tons of destinations to share if it was in either Europe or South America, Sarita and myself travel a lot, (I have to say I laughed at you thinking wont last a week together.... I think my case at the moment the limit would be even shorter LOL) but the destinations I would choose you have already done.....
what about LA? that would be another place in the USA I would love to go for a holiday.....

Thanks for the suggestions @lynning! I would like to go to DC, as it's been forever since I've been, but she'll go there this spring on her 8th grade class trip.

Hmmm... @scrapsandsass and @klee73010 you have me thinking about Seattle now. I've never been there!

And San Diego would be fun!! I love that area. I haven't been in years and Clara has never been.

a weekend getaway in march? do you like the sun and beaches? fly down to the florida gulf coast for some R&R and sunshine. and i love the SF idea too. that is great city to do a quick/few days sight seeing.

Gosh, I love all the ideas so far. I live in Florida, so stay-cation is a wonderful thing ♥ Disney, white beaches, all good

The first thing that jumped to my mind was Seattle too. It is cold & wet in March. But, it is a pretty cool place for young teens. There's Pike Place, Top Pot Doughnuts, The EMP Museum (rock n roll museum, so not stuffy), the original Starbucks. I have friends that go often since we're fairly close in San Francisco.

Vegas? I know she's too young to gamble, but they have killer shows! Since she's a natural performer, she'd probably appreciate them.

Hawaii? I mean who wouldn't want hang in paradise.

And of course, like Laura said, Paris is ALWAYS a good idea!

ETA: This makes me SO excited for when my girl is older!! I can't wait to take her on girls trips. I'd love to bring my mom, sister, and hilarious aunt along too!

If you ski, Utah isn't too bad in March, but it's usually cold, and Chicago weather. Montreal is on my list of places to visit, but might not be her cup of tea.

Las Vegas does have a lot of shows and stuff. And cool restaurants. And most of the casinos have something you can check out like exhibits. Disney is always fun in my book, and San Diego is gorgeous weather. Do you have 'booze cruises' on the east coast? We have one that leaves LA, goes to Catalina island, goes to Mexico, and comes back. It's usually super cheap because they make a lot of money off people drinking. And it's usually only a couple of days, but it has a lot of fun stuff since it's a cruise ship?

Okay... this is one I hadn't put out there, but it's one I was considering! I was thinking we might be able to fit in a side trip to the Grand Canyon as well... I was just looking up tours from Las Vegas. We also usually go on a road trip with my parents each summer, but I don't think it will happen this year. The place they had wanted to go this year was the Grand Canyon. Maybe I can talk them into road tripping out there, we'll fly out. Then we could do some of the outside of Las Vegas stuff together. Hmmmmm....

Last March my youngest daughter and I went to Washington, DC., for a quick weekend. We had a blast. This year, she wants me to go to London with her!!! I'm seriously thinking about it. The only drawback is that she is a teacher and she is taking her 17 year old students with her and I'll be going as a chaperone.

My parents chaperoned my sisters choir trip to Greece. They still talk about how much fun it was! Go for it!
