Life span of a laptop

My MacBook Pro has been in service for 6 years. About 5 of them with a cracked screen along the top. I don't really scrap with it anymore, the upgrade to the newer OS made it too slow, but my daughter uses it for school: mainly homework, papers and internet.

Do you just use your laptop for everything or you have a desktop too?

Have you priced them where you are, Li Li? You might be pleasantly surprised. My desk top iMac was less that my Macbook Pro. My last Macbook Pro lasted 7 yrs.

WHAT? No way an IMac is cheaper than a pro.. but let me check.
 
The starting price for an iMac is less than most MacBooks, nevermind the MacBook Pro. Desktops are cheaper than laptops in general, whether Apple or not.

iMacs will last you longer also because, using common sense, you wont move the iMac as much as you move a laptop....

I think we need to think about how delicate the pieces of a computer are, and is normal that something that is being moved around will last less than something you have more stationary..... I do understand the need for a lap top for certain people but if you don't need to carry it around... I would definitely go for iMac

Also: the screen of the iMac is amazing...once you are used to looking into this amazing computer..... oh I could never go to either Windows or a lap top, we have an iPad mini, which Sarita is using as her computer broke down...... but we use it together and is logged in as me.... but I LOVe love love my iMac who is dying :(
