Life span of a laptop

Oh yes.... i also have dual monitors on the desktop. Not on the laptop. I use one monitor for PSE, and the other monitor for my stash folders. And, lately, a movie playing, too. Lol

what do you do on the second monitor?

Mostly I have about four windows open with my file viewer so I can easily see the thumbnails of all the stuff in different kits/alphas and then I can drag and drop from one straight into PS. I also sometimes have netflix running in the lower corner and I have my excel spreadsheet with my list of things to scrap up in there too. Then on my main screen I have PS filling the screen.

I scrap with ACDSee open on the right screen to see my supplies, Lightroom on that screen too (toggling back and forth) and PS open on the left screen. So nice to right from screen to screen when scrapping.

My Assus Bamboo was 7 or 8 years old when I replaced it last year, and really it was running fine but started to feel really slow. A couple of the usb ports were getting a little flakey and I had to reset them in system/devices once in awhile, but the main reason I replaced was I wanted more speed and that laptop had already had all the upgrades it could take. It still works ok - just past its prime and I hate to part with it due to its beautiful hand polished bamboo casing.

My Dell had its 5th birthday in june. I love it and dread the day I have to replace it but the trackpad is not always responding to a light touch , so have to be replaced soon ,before we get too used to" belting" it one, and make it a bad habit ;-) and the r on the keyboard plays up, so its needs a new clip, but the "inners " work well, and I try to be good and do checks often for malware ,or bits that are running in the background that I don't need, so it is quite fast for such an old lady. Windows 10 helped speed it up too.
I am quietly wishing for a desk top with a large monitor for Christmas, but it would definitely still be a Dell, and I would take photo files and older kits of the laptop, but still keep it cause I love it !

I'm jealous that you can see so much more !!

Keeping my fingers crossed that mine will last that long or hopefully longer!!!!

This is my fear. I'm a Mac girl... and dread it dying, mostly since they don't make my 17" laptop anymore. :( The HD failed this summer, and I lost some things. Mac fixed it, and it's been good since then... but I'm sad. It will not be here long. I have an iMac, which is old, but completely usable, and almost like new, even at 6 years old. My kids use it for school basically. I could use it, and it is large enough but I dislike the thought of being stuck in the guest bedroom to use the computer.

I wish great things for your computer and that it lasts and lasts!

17" !!!! well at least you have a back up :) . I'm a MAC girl too… can't imagine using windows again!!!!

I am designing on a 2008 MacBook Pro.... It's still working fine, but I have the same fears you do! :)

I never seem to get more than 2-3 years from a laptop but I suppose that's primarily because of very heavy usage. I would love to switch to a Mac but I am just not sure the 15" screen will work for me.

My HP will be either 4 or 5 years old in December, and I will be replacing it then if not before. It has zero battery life and has to be permanently plugged in, and the fan on it sounds like a cement mixer. I just hate the process of getting a new computer and transferring things over, so I always put it off until I absolutely have to.

Mine is about 2 and a half and has had two repairs. It's a little loud but seems to run okay. I'd rather have a desktop for scrapping but I need a laptop for school and we don't have either the space or the money for both.

When I worked in computer repair, I came across the whole spectrum from "I just bought this last week and it's dead" to "this laptop I bought in the 80s just needs a new battery" but 3-5 years seemed pretty normal, I guess.

Gah! Don't jinx me! LOL.. Luckily DH is quite handy with computers, which is part of why she's held on for so long.. At this point I might as well just have a desktop, though, because the screen on Stella is dead (3rd time) so I have an external monitor I'm hooked up to.. Ultimately I want a desktop with dual monitors in an awesome clean, bright creative space.. That's not happening anytime soon, so I just consider this set-up a baby step toward getting there - haha!

I love that your lappy has a name! :) I always name mine after stars, so Stella isn't such a bad pick either. ;) My current is Adhara.

I think that's a normal life span for any laptop.. if it's lives longer than 3 years, there will always need to be some minor kinda repair done.
