I'm picking up my parents from the airport today! :woot
and was pondering, hmmm I love to drive anywhere and everywhere....

What is your favorite?

Oh drive, hands down! I LOVE road trips. Flying makes me very anxious - I haven't set foot on a plane since 2002. We did go to Florida a couple of years ago, but we drove down... other than New Jersey on the way down and CT on the way back the trip was very enjoyable.

Drive for sure! I love a good road trip.

I have to fly all the time, but I absolutely hate it. I had an awful experience years ago and have never really gotten over the fear from it. Sadly, I am white knuckler.

I just want to travel, lol. Car is fun if you can stop and meander around but I do like to fly because I get there faster. Florida is a 22 hour drive and pretty once you get through Ohio (sorry Ohio peeps, no disrespect but I75 isn't very scenic) and I hit Kentucky/Tenessee. However flying I am there in just a few hours and ready to start the fun.

I'm with Lorry.... Cruise Ship. Love traveling that way.

We fly or drive any other time. When I was younger we took the train with a sleeping car from NY to Florida a couple times... that was a super fun way to go on a trip. So different.

i love smaller, shorter road trips, especially if they are scenic. so fun. a very long drive hurts my back and gets old after awhile.
i really prefer flying bc it is faster.

as for a cruise ... i really have had no desire so far to take a cruise. i was almost tempted last year though, so that may be changing as i get older?

for anything 5 hrs and under, i prefer the train ... over that and i would rather fly instead since it's faster.

It depends on how far I have to go, who I'm going with, and how long I'll have once I'm there. I usually fly because it's faster and my back and legs don't hurt as bad as when I'm driving. I love taking road trips for up to 5-6 hours. I have not had any desire to cruise, mainly because we aren't party people, and I want to get where I'm going a bit faster than that can take me. I would like to cruise the Danube or Nile someday though!

I wouldn't mind flying if it weren't for the hassle of TSA, having to pack luggage just so, and (sometimes) the general crankiness of passengers and crew once on board.

I LOVE a good road trip! My husband and I took our pop-up camper on a 4600 mile, 14 day, 15 state loop a couple of years ago, and just last week we bought a cute little Class C RV (very used, but just what we were looking for) to make future road trips even easier.

In the future we'd love to live on a large sailboat for months at a time. We're both SCUBA divers and fans of the journey being just as much fun as the destination, and we wouldn't care if it took us days or weeks to reach our port...as long as we didn't run out of books to read!

They all have their place, but there is nothing like a road trip. But, one thing I've learned from traveling with my daughter and her family is that you miss too much and have a compromised sense of direction when you travel in the back seat. I'd rather be the driver or the front seat passenger! There is a certain sense of nostalgia that comes from taking to the road!

FWIW, we aren't party people either. I like cruises because they're cheap and relaxing. Other people clean and cook and I can just chill, and then hey, look, we're in a new place! But yes, it is slow! It depends how far we're talking, though, because when you add up the extra time at airports for security and baggage claim, and then (for long flights) recovery and jet lag, sometimes boats and trains don't seem so bad to me.

My daughter and I *might* *maybe* cruise a bit of the Danube tomorrow, from Vienna to Bratislava and back again. We'll see if we're up for it after tonight.

We love cruising too!! But sadly Australia isn't really close to much, all our cruises have been when we lived in other countries.

I love to fly because it gets you there faster, but it seems like the hassle of getting to the airport early and check in and security and all that junk seem to make it more exhausting and take longer than it should. Otherwise I love to be driven to my destination by my hubby. :)

No, unfortunately she finally crashed Saturday night and we did nothing all day Sunday, and flew home Monday morning. We had a very full week, so I knew she'd be too tired eventually but wasn't sure exactly when. Oh well! Guess we'll just have to vacation again ;)

I love the train-- gets you where you need to go, you can move around and eat or go to bathroom as needed, and there are often stops where you can get out and stretch your legs. I took the Trans-Siberia train from Khabarosk to Moscow in 1995 and it was SO fun! I do remember being a bit bored for some of the time though-- 9 days on the train is quite a long time!
