OK, it's been called the dress that broke the internet!

What color do YOU see?

My 16 year old son brought this to me last night on his phone b/c he thought his friends were messing with him. When I told him I saw a white and gold dress, he sort of freaked out, LOL. He also swears he sees it as black and blue. I love this trick of our amazing human bodies and minds!

Of note: if you do see it as white and gold
#1 you (and I) are wrong according the myriads of experts who have weighed in and the original wearer of the dress and

#2 take a look at this link. Scroll down to where they have color corrected it in photoshop then scroll back up to the exact same photo. What do you see now? *insert goosebumps*

Oh, and I can make it actually appear to change from gold/white to black/blue by scrolling slowly down the dress while keeping my eyes on it. Freaky fun.

ETA: You don't even have to go to the extra website... if it's gold/white for you, scroll past it, then back up slowly. You'll see the black and blue.

I saw it last night.... saw Blue/Black. Showed DH, same as me. Didn't think anything of it, and that maybe people were crazy.
Then I saw it again a bit later, and it was gold/white. I was freaked, lol! I showed DH, still Blue/Black. It's so weird.


So.... I see both (said in my best Cole/Haley Joel Osment voice).

BTW, it's now blue and black for me. But I know the gold will return... it always does, LOL.

when I saw it last night I kept seeing gold/white today when I have seen it I see black/blue (such as pic you posted).
 
Gold and white. And try as I might, I just don't see it as black and blue. Pretty weird.
 
White/gold. I can see where people might see a touch of light blue in the "white" section because of shadows in the picture but really I don't see black & blue at all.
 
After much debate with my husband :giggle last night, I now see both colors depending on how I focus on the image.
For those that see the yellow/gold, one tip I have is to scroll past the photo posted above until it is off the screen. Then scroll slowly back up... really slowly... and reveal just the bottom portion of the dress first. You are more likely to see the blue and black that way.

My takeaway is that my eyes see and process the whole image, including the consideration of light and shadows cast. I am guessing this is due to my constant tinkering in Photoshop and with photography. DH, on the other hand, sees just the dress.

THIS. And for some bizarre reason it annoys me when I see it black and blue. I think b/c I first saw it as gold/white I think that's the way it is supposed to be. It's unsettling, LOL.
 
Shannon, Did you visit the sites Jen linked? They have photoshopped photos to show the dress in different color casts. You can see the black and blue there. There is also an image from the store where the dress was purchased.


It was blowing my mind. DH and I were on split sides.

I can only see the gold & white - but haven't checked the link yet.
My dd and I just watched a Brain Games episode that was similar to this - how the brain tricks the eye by making assumptions about shadows, light, context, etc - like what you were saying, Trista.
Very interesting.

No matter what picture I look at and how slowly I scroll up or down - it is only black and blue. And it's not just light blue or black - it is pretty dark/vivid blue and black - like no mistaking the blue as light blue/almost white. This is just wild to me. We are split in our household. My husband swears it is only white and gold and also my youngest daughter. My two other daughters are with me - definitely black and blue! And according to the poll in the first article, I am in the minority. And also to note - the succession of pictures in the second article...I still see them all as black and blue - absolutely not even an inkling of white or gold! :)
 
oh my family is freaking...I had to take a photo of it on the screen and the blue and black showed up!
 
I can only see white/gold. There is no way anything appears black at all when I look at it. Sigh. I don't know why this bothers me so much but it does!

this spooked me out

I saw it gold & white, then did that, scrolled slowly...and is blue & black- spooky.
I saw the news on yahoo and didn't get what they were saying....
crazy human mind....
 
This is so funny to me. My high school students were CRAZY over this yesterday. Every single class wanted to talk about it, hash it out, ask my opinion, argue about it, put a poll out in the hallway, make a flag to show which color they saw. So funny.

I see mostly white and gold although I did see one that seemed like it changed colors on me. My husband saw a lavender and olive green?!
 
I see only blue and black. Lol! Going to come back in a bit and see if that changes. This is so interesting!
 
i see white and gold ... i did the slow scroll and saw blue/black for the briefest second - and then back to white and gold.
