Pad Patter: 6/5 Water water everywhere? uhm NOT

Well here we are in the start of winter here and the damn lawn had to be mowed two weeks ago from all the damn rain we have had... so green concrete everywhere is looking might fine to me... got to be so much of a pain I got a man in to mow it and do the weeding... as a result I never and I do mean never water the grass outside the fence in summer and only one part of the lawn inside the fence in the summer and thats only when I remember... the fruits garden gets watered every day or so during spring/summer though...

Water is NOT metered here yet... though I guess one day it will happen... in Selwyn district we don't have water restrictions ever in summer though an hours drive north in Waimakariri district they get them regularly each year...

Paying for water would suck majorly...

Anne, can you do anything with your gray water? IE all the water that comes out from your 20 loads a week? When we were in drought for seven years, I stopped putting softener in my washes and piped the gray water down to our garden to keep our plants/trees alive. It can get stinky - there must be a good filtration for that now (we've been out of drought for a couple of years now so I don't do it any more) - do you guys have something like that you could use/make?

we do use gray water for the yard too! and water savers on our shower heads. I know it sounds so much, but our homes are large and so so cheap to purchase. It all evens out...I just love water! lol

When I lived in Massachusetts, I paid $75/quarter minus a couple bucks for a low water user. Here in Utah, my dad pays $150-$200 month for water. Crazy!

We have plenty of water from a deep well, and it's free, and we live in a high almost-desert. Having said that, we don't water anything except the indoor potted plants. If it doesn't grow without extra watering, it doesn't grow in our yard. Our septic field is under our front lawn, so that that keeps it reasonably green in the spring and fall (and in winter it's under the snow) but when it dries out mid-summer, we just let that happen.

We live in an apartment, no lawn at all. There's a little garden on the corner with hearty plants. That's maintained by the property managers. I have an Earth Box that I water with the building's hose. Laundry is $1.50/load to wash & $1.00 to dry. Water/sewage bill is $200 every 2 months. I always get mixed up on the months & end up paying $600 at a time. It's ridiculous. Fortunately the power bill is only $45/month.

I'm in Australia (in a city) and pay $100 per month. We are always on and off water restrictions because of the droughts, but do have greenery! I did water my lawn this year for the first time in years.
I spent a holiday in New England a few years ago and was amazed by how much water and green there is in the midst of summer. I'd love to live there! (Although the snow might be too much ;))

I have to admit I have been educated and become a bit envious of some of ya'll. I will try and work thru those issues lol..but amazing how water is metered out in different parts of country.

Wow! I'm surprised how different it is too! I"m in NJ... I pay $25 a month for water. I'm about 3 miles from the Raritan Bay, but about 15 minutes from the shore/Atlantic Ocean. We don't water too much, maybe a couple times a month during the summer months. We do get notices/calls when to conserve a little more when reservoirs are low, but I think those are separate from our water company. I'm not sure though, I listen anyway!

You need to move to the lush area of Northeast Tennessee. As soon as Spring hits, everything turns green, green, green. Lush thick grass that we never water... ever. But, the disadvantage to living in a place like this is the HUMIDITY! It can be brutal in the dead of summer. My water bill is only about $55 a month.

I love the green but hate the humidity. It's really high here all the time too. I could stomach it if I was near the beach or a nice lake...but I'm not lol. I should live in England.
