Pad Patter 4/14 - Online people IRL

Yes! I've met quite a few of my digi friends IRL. The coolest part is that the friendships made a seamless transition from online to in person. Meeting in person just cemented those friendships even more. On the whole, I hardly distinguish between my digi friends and my IRL friends any more. They are equally important. :)

Yep, this hits the nail on the head for me, too. I met a bunch of women years ago (2008) when David Cook was competing on American Idol. We met on the David Cook forums and noticed that we started being on the same threads together so we started our own. And we just stayed together on that forum for a few years, then moved to FB - We had a time when we used to socialize playing farmtown, it was hysterical - we'd meet on eachother's farms and work and chat. That was before farmville was a thing. Anyway - there are about 27 of us - and though we aren't as close as we were all together, we are still in touch and are there for eachother. We have a FB group. But I've met 3 of the ladies IRL. At first we had weekends where we went to David Cook concerts together. But we've all pretty much moved beyond that. One of the ladies is my best friend now. We get together whenever we can. She lives in another state, though. But we've been there for each other through a lot. But if I went to any of them and started up a chat it would be like old times right away. I am lucky to have met them.
I haven't met any digiscrappers IRL. I would love to though. But everyone lives so far away. Except one. You know who you are. LOL Let's make that happen!! :)
I wish I could go to London, or New Zealand or Australia or Brazil or even New Mexico, Florida and Texas! To see digifriends but unfortunately I just don't have the money for that. Maybe someday. Sigh. Maybe TLP will have a "All expense paid visit the digiscrapper or Polly of your choice" contest. LOL

Aussie scrappers have talked off and on about organizing a get-together in one of our capital cities but then we can't decide between Melbourne or Sydney and then I say its always beautiful here in Brisbane ...... and then we never get anything off the ground! There is just too much distance for us all to travel ..... stupid huge country :D

I have to say I feel blessed that I get to live close by some of the gals here. There is nothing like you texting them about a REALLY BAD DAY and them showing up with your favorite Gelato.

Maybe you need to have three: one in each city, and see who can come? I haven't looked at Australia's map lately, and I definitely haven't checked distances, but I bet it's the same as the US- too many places are too far away, especially in the west where states can bed a couple hours big. Sigh. We need to start a let's meet thread and set some fun things up.

I'm so jealous that so many of you get to meet each other. Sounds like fun!

I know, organising holidays is hard enough, travel hours before you even hit a decent town...I'll come to Brissie though!

I recently met an online friend in NZ while we were on hols there. My husband thought it might be weird meeting up with someone you only knew online but it was like meeting up with an old friend, no awkwardness at all.

Made me realise we should do a world tour, meeting online friends, having morning teas in different cities, sounds like a very nice way to travel!

I've been able to meet quite a few online friends! Back before I started scrapping and we lived just outside of Dallas, a group of us from the photography board on 2 peas used to meet up regularly for "photo playdates" with our kids and cameras!

I used to love going to CHA every year, I got to meet so many digi scrapping online friends in person. We had so much fun!! And I'm still close with several of them even though they don't scrap anymore or are active on any of the scrapping sites. Deann (used to have the we are storytellers site) and I are still trying to plan another get together.

Now that we're back in Chicago and actually live in the city, I get the opportunity meet quite a few online friends. That's the perk of living in a popular tourist/work destination. Sometimes it's just for a quick coffee, but other times it's been for full day photo expeditions! So much fun!

When Ali Edwards' Yesterday and Today class was out the first time, I was one of about 30 women that started an online forum. It's been that long and we still chat online pretty much 24/7 as we have members in the US and in England and Australia. We are at about 24 members right now, I think. I had the opportunity in March 2012 to fly to Colorado for a weekend in a ski lodge with 11 of us. It was AWESOME! I know I wondered if I could recognize them in person at the airport and if they would be as nice in person as they are online. The answer was yes and yes! I will say my oldest child called me to make sure that I was okay and that everyone was who they said they were. I assured her that I was having a great time. We had another get together in October 2013 here in Florida and the lady from England flew in to join us. We are already planning our next trip.

On a paper sb board I was on my mum & I went to a retreat in 2006 in Vancouver, BC & I met bcgal00 (Rae) and lots of other women that was organized by POTP. I used to also go to digi crops with another site but felt like I was an outsider cause I didnt fully use their products so havent gone for 2-3 years. I've never met any digi friends since then though cause I live so far away and cant travel til ive finished uni and worked a bit.

I haven't been able to meet any digi scrappers yet. Back when I had to go fly into London for school, Shimelle (long-time paper scrap guru) offered to help me and gave me her number in case I got lost. I did get lost, but I was too freaked out at the time to think of calling her. LOL.

I seem to have a case of bad timing. I traveled more before I started scrapping. I could have met with people in England, NY/NJ, etc. I keep trying to convince my hubby to go back to Fiji (where we had our honeymoon), so then I can swing by Australia. ;) And I should be able to meet Johanna one of these days since she's just three hours south of me.

I did meet some online writing buddies up in Canada once. One of the women put together a writing conference. We even had one guy from Australia show up in BC. :) It was cool.

I'm ready to go back to bc. I'm heading to southern Ontario this summer. Who's there?
