Pad Patter: 2/3 - Allergies?

Drugs... Codeine, morphine, Tramadol, maxolon... at this point I'm just collecting them. I'm really hoping to trade them for a vegetable allergy one day because pain killers is a really sucky thing to be allergic to.

I am allergic to dust mites, mold and pollen, cats (I know we have one, its taken me a year to adjust to her- but the cat isn't allowed on beds, and I vac almost everyday) horses and grass. I too am getting worse as I get older, I now have an intolerance to aspirin, bananas, capsicum, and sometimes milk upsets me. I changed to lactose free milk and that has worked for me.

So many of us are allergic to stuff!

I got a fun one: formaldehyde. Yep. I was the kid not allowed to dissect. Formaldehyde is also in tobacco, so that ended my summer job when I was 14. And it's in cigarette smoke. So, when I walk away from smokers, I'm really not being rude, I just don't want the itchy eyes, scratchy skin, and yucky head feeling.

I'm mildly allergic to some shellfish, but only rash and itch. DS doesn't have any allergies either that I'm aware of yet.

can't take antibiotics, am allergic to 70+ plants (mostly food like plants, think of a veg, I am allergic) hate meat... so heavily dependant on the veg for substance... have to carry anapen (adrenalin) in the handbag, wherever I go, don't eat raw salads in the restaurants, had two anaphylactic reactions after having those... so learnt my lesson... only react badly when it's a cross reaction, as the doc said, to put it plainly you will only have a lethal reaction if you go into a flowering birch forest wearing rubber boots and latex gloves, eating a crab stick from one hand while handling (or was it fondling) a kiwi... I told my husband if there is any time he sees that happening he it to shoot to kill... LOL That image is going to certainly accompany me to my grave... I think I should scrap it! LOL!

oh no Aimee, trust me you don't, I had drugs allergy for 25 years, and the vegetables allergy since 2008 only, but I'd take my chances to be allergic to any medication rather than be allergic to food...

Oh, yes, the fun fact is that I am allergic to some antihistamine... that was fun to discover, and difficult to explain especially to the immunologists and other allergy related specialists, they are easily amused and always want to check rather than take your word for it... :)

I'm allergic to cats...and that's about it.
Just recently, my DD has developed an allergic reatction to something...and we are having a heck of a time figuring out what it is. Only seems to affect her towards bedtime...her back gets really itchy and when she scratches it, she gets raised welts. We haven't changed our laundry detergent or soap, can't really seem to pinpoint it to a specific food...so we are trying to combat it with making sure her skin stays nice and lubricated and taking some antihistamines regularly.

Pajamas? I only ask because I noticed the tags in my DS's pj's were causing a rash. Don't know why, except maybe the dry weather irritated it more?

Dust, animal dander, pollen ( get really sick around lilies), spinach, peaches, my own protein (in my eyes), whatever the preservative is in those bagged salads, and any sort of fake sugar/sweetener.

Weird stuff.

I am also pretty sure I'm allergic to getting up early in the morning. :giggle

I used to think that I had a lot of seasonal allergies because of itchy, watery eyes - and I was going through my disposable lenses so fast from all the protein deposits, as a result. Then a friend of mine asked me whether I had ever tried switching away from the "all in one" contact lens solutions to a hydrogen peroxide based one - because I guess people can develop eye allergies to the preservatives they use in the no-rub all-in-ones over time. I've been wearing contacts for 24 years. ANYWAY - I switched and my eye allergies magically disappeared.

Which has nothing to do with anything except that I had a similar situation in that I was like "How am I allergic to everything?!?!" and then it turned out ... it was just the lens solution.

Man... maybe I need to try that!

That is interesting. I'm not allergic to painkillers, but they seriously have no affect on me. I always worry that if something bad happens and I really need pain meds, I'm not sure what will happen. :\ Going to the dentist is a nightmare. They can give me the legal limit of novacaine, and it won't work (so I avoid the dentist like the plague). And of course they *never* believe me until they see for themselves. Vicodin, oxycodone, etc... nothing helps. I'm just super lucky that I haven't really needed pain meds in the past. :)

But there are also only certain medicines I can use that will work (like Sudafed [the original], Allegra and Zegrid [for ulcers]) the others in those same categories don't work at all. We have a big meth problem in our county, so getting Sudafed is ridiculous, and I have to have a prescription (for Allegra-D), but I still have to fight with the pharmacy all of the time. It is literally easier to buy a gun than it is to get Sudafed. Insanity.

My husband always teases me and says that I should donate myself to medical science because I am so opposite of the majority of the world.

I'm allergic to penicillin & latex.
Cats make my nose run like crazy, my eyes water, and make me sneeze nonstop - but nope, not allergic. LOL I can build a tolerance to individual cats over time.
My husband is literally allergic to hay (alfalfa) - we had to rehome our guinea pigs because he couldn't be around their food. He's also allergic to seafood (not just shellfish - anything that lived in the ocean. He can eat freshwater fish just fine.

Nada, luckily.

My hubby has a bundle of allergies. Thankfully none include our dog or cat!

We just found out Jacob (and most likely Boden, as they are identical twins) is allergic to Neomycin. So, no more Neosporin for him.
