I know but it's the end of July and the commercials are starting! How does a mom spell relief?? S.C.H.O.O.L. (Bwahaha)

I did see that our school district is asking parents to pay a $30 fee and teachers will purchase all their supplies. Things sure have changed a lot over the years.

What are your schools doing? Do you have a list to go buy supplies or will your child's school be taking care of this for you?

Our school has it in the budget to buy all the kids' supplies. It's nice and all but I miss going school supply shopping!

We have to pay about $70 for our primary kids school packs - we can but our own as well. That usually includes something like an atlas or a dictionary as well. We still have go supply shopping for the high school kids. Love new stationery!

My kids are going back to school TOMORROW!!! In fact, school starts in February here and they are just in their winter vacation which is generally 20 days to a month. So I really dont need to get any supplies just yet only a few ones that are over. But I wish their school had this fee for us to pay. It would make my life so much easier!!!!

Our school offers "supply kits" to purchase for around $35 but we never get them. We prefer to go pick up out our own supplies!! The boys love picking it out!!!

We don't have an option to buy our own, it is included in their book and supply fee. I am thankful, my boys in the store are SUPER indecisive and that slightly stresses me out (i.e. drives me crazy:hairpol).

BACK to school? We haven't even gotten OUT of school yet!!!! Two more days and summer vacation officially starts. FINALLY. So I don't want to hear about any BACK to school yet!!!!

Yeah it was back to school today after the winter school holidays... big relief!

Little girl's school offers the supplies pack and while its convenient boy do you pay for it! I got all her supplies for less than half of the cost thru school...

Big girl is at college (high school) though this year and the school don't do the packs... they give you a web site address to go to and get it through there... and yes they get a cut! I spent a small dang fortune on (would have either way!) her supplies... but still cheaper than going thru the website...

And then there are the uniforms... yeah well while a great leveller man are they hideously expensive!

Only been out of school just over a week here and I can honestly say I am loving it so far!! Ask me again in 5 weeks I will probably be the same haha!! I love being at home with the kids!!! So no back to school yet for us! Not till September!

Funny that you posted this yesterday because I just went to the dreaded Walmart and bought supplies for my boys yesterday afternoon. I HATE our Walmart. Everyone there is yelling at their kids and they all look like they hate life and are mad at the world. Blah! BUT, I did get all of their supplies except for kleenex. I could not find the Kleenex anywhere in Walmart. Weird! I'm happy to have that taken care of though. I think I would happily pay $30 for their supplies though. I spent about $80 total for my two boys! Crazy how much stuff they "need" for school these days. My fourth grader needed a scientific calculator already! Sheesh! When did he get big enough to need more than crayons?

We pay $50 "school fee" for each kid, no idea what that's for, since I still have to buy all the supplies.

We go to school from labor day (September) to the end of June, so we are just about at the halfway mark of summer. My son is only 20 months so no supplies for him. But I'm a teacher (high school). I love Target for supplies. .99 for Crayola markers? Awesome. Target brand are even cheaper - like .75, I think. Better than a discount store.

Karen - yes, isn't it scary that a 4th grader would need a scientific calc? It's crazy. I'm supposed to teach my 9th graders Plato this year. I didn't study Plato until I was a senior!

Angie, I think some schools have tech fees. We don't but I know some charge a fee since kids will be on laptops, iPods, Nooks etc. and inevitably things will need to be replaced. Also, that covers the media getting loaded on there. I suspect that might be your fee. I frankly think that's ridiculous, but I guess it must really help their budget.

Relief indeed! It's good to be back on a schedule. We start Thursday.

We're supposed to pay a $20 fee per kid for the school. And then each teacher may ask for a smaller school fee for their class. But we have to buy all their school supplies.

I have no idea what my stepson's school does. His mom takes care of that fee.

I still have not heard anything from DD's preschool which starts in September. I don't even have a start date! This planner-mama is having a hard time not knowing and preparing myself for having a BIG GURL soon, kwim?! Thank goodness I can still plan the perfect first day of school outfit that will be color-coordinated to match the general color scheme of a lot of back-to-school kits that will be flooding Digi Land soon to keep me occupied... :P

This is my favorite thus far:

We go back on August 12th - 2 weeks from today - can't believe it. Our school gives a list for each grade level and I have to admit I like it because I am a total nerd and love buying school supplies.:heartlub However, it does annoy me a little bit that things like copy paper are on the list.:thumbsdowns

Crazy! I'm always amazed at how different school schedules are. My cousin (in California) has more of year-round schedule so they finished at the end of June and will start the beginning of August ... that makes summer way too short! I love our schedule, out the last week of May, go back the last week of August. We usually don't get supply lists until like a week before, which is annoying because a lot of the sales are over by then. I usually shop the sale and try to guess what they'll need. I love getting crayons for 25 cents a box!

I have a senior in high school and an 8th grader. The junior high does a binder system. Huge 3 ring binder, folders for each class period, filler paper. I hate it. She went through 3 or 4 binders last year. I prefer to have a notebook that is 3 hole punched and let her take that to class, then tear out the notes and put them in the binder. Keeps the binder from such heavy use. That will be the majority of her school supplies this year, plus pens and pencils. She does get a school issued iPad. I'll have to pay $50 for insurance on it here in about a month.

My senior likes to get an accordion folder and make a section for each class. Then she takes a perforated notebook and puts the notes in each section. It works for her.

I went up to school today and started putting my classroom together. I teach special ed pre-K so I don't have a lot of supplies I need but I usually pick up cheap crayons and markers to use in my classroom. And pens... I have a hard time keeping track of pens...

My kids start on August 6th...we are on a year-round track, which I love. I enjoy having a smaller summer break, and then taking track breaks in November and March. The breaks are long enough to enjoy, but not so long that they are picking at each other. It's great, too, because we are heading to DisneyWorld in the fall, and most of the trip will happen during the first track break. It really works well for us.

Anyhow, this year, the school district issued a standardized supply list for the elementary grades, and it made shopping a snap! Each teacher may request a few add on items during the first week, but this shouldn't be a big deal. Class fees aren't too bad...usually between $20-30, and it looks like it will be even less this year...we're still waiting to hear what the final fees will be.
