Okay, so after hearing the Kim Kardashien and Kanye West named their baby girl 'North' West and people commenting around the world about it, it kinda made me wonder that 'everyday' people name their kids with strange names all over the world.

So, what's a different name that you know of that someone has named their child or children?!?!?!

Working for the school district, I've seen some pretty strange ones.

Shi'thead (Yea, read that one!!!)
Pis$omi (Forum wouldn't let me spell it the way it's spelled. And I don't want to know what the parents were on or doing when they came up with that one!)
Lonely (Believe it or not, it our oldest grandson's 2nd middle name! And NO, we were not happy about it. It came from his dad's side)
Possum Lee (Actual real name on birth certificate)

well lots of weird dutch names...hehe, but to most usa people a lot of dutch names will sounds weird. But I've heard mercedes, flower, pearl and we have a kid at daycare who's name is Storm

Those are... interesting, Melanie. :giggle

I went to school with a boy named 'Jeptha', which I've never heard anywhere else.

Some of the moms on a birth club board I've been on since I was pregnant with my oldest chose names that struck me as... um... "unique", but after a while they just become "them" and you can't imagine them being named anything else. One has boys named 'Whistler' and 'Maverick'. And another just had a baby girl a year or two ago and named her 'Maybe'. :)

I'm sure there must be other unusual names at the kids' schools, but I can't think of any at the moment. Part of it is that we live in a very multi-cultural area. There is such a wide variety of international names that none in particular really stand out as being noticeably different.

Mercedes and Pearl are normal names. Storm is a normal name here in Denmark.
I have a friend who named her son Talon. There are strict name laws here so we don't get many weird names.

oh...people on Brazil can be very creative and came up with unique and horrible names at the same time.....I would need special help from the braziliam girls from the team to explain that to you...calling Ana Paula, Valeria and Amanda!!!

I love that so much! I'd consider it if I ever had a girl. There's a character on Arrested Development with that name which I'm sure had an effect on its popularity over the last 10 years. On the show her birth name is Mae so they call her Maeby as a nickname which I think is pretty cute.

I know someone who named their son Arbutus (pronounced Ahr-butt-us). Uhhh . .. maybe don't give your kid a name with the word BUTT in it?

I also know people who named their kids after their favourite musicians. They have a Lennon (girl), Presley (girl) and Dylan (boy).

Speaking of which, I went to highschool with an Elvis.

I honestly can only think of one name that was different, Merrima
and I kinda like it :)

I have no idea if she's seen the show. Her story is that she and her husband were brainstorming names and kept saying maybe this one or maybe that one. Her sister joked that they should just name her Maybe, and it stuck. :)

A lot of my friends in school had normal sounding names with unusual spellings , like a girl I knew name Lihsbet (Lisbeth), and lots of made up names like Yorkanis. One of my teachers told a story of a student name Pesticide, which her parents saw on a billboard and thought it sounded nice because they were pronouncing it in their language.

I'm not a big fan of really different names b/c I grew up being teased and made fun of. No one had my name back in our small city. I got teased that my dad must have wanted a boy. I hated my name back then. I don't mind now but when I had my girls, I gave them names that I thought would not embarrass them. Unique names are fun but I think it can really get out of hand. Michael Jackson's daughter's name "Blanket" just makes me shake my head.

Classmates this year...

Stormy Shine
Candy Cotton

Oh, a past friend...

Noel Kristmess

Cabinmate of my son's at camp this year...

Able Cain (seriously?)

There's a family here in town with three sons...... Storm, Thunder & Briar!

And Michael Jackson's SON is named Blanket. But he does have super long hair.

My name is an unusual spelling and I love it! I wanted to give my kids unusual spellings... not super crazy but just slightly different... but my husband would have none of it, and with the laws here, it wasn't worth the argument. Although I suppose most people outside of Denmark would have real trouble with their names so maybe I got what I wanted after all. (They are Dagmar and Magdalena, but trust me, you're saying it wrong. lol)

My son is Birk... but we live in Norway, so it's not that unique here, although it's still not common :)

I'm not really in a position to judge anyone's name choices. LOL

I've always loved my name, just not the way other people react to it. And I've never met a shortened version of my name that I like.
