Pad Patter 6/22 - Kids Names

I guess I should also add, thanks to my lovely south Memphis accent, there was a group of boys when I moved who loved to terrorize me and call me "Paprika" instead, but that was more them just being little poos than my name.

Funny about the Brazilian names! My hubby lived in brazil for a few years and says the same thing, there are crazy names! He met several people named after pop culture references, like a guy named Highlander (after the tv show) and another guy whose first name was Arnoldschwarzenegger. Lol!
There are some crazy names in my neck of the woods too. The (unofficial) rules lots of parents seem to follow... If it ends in an -ee sound it's a girl name, if it ends in an -en sound it's a boy, and whatever crazy combination of letters you want to put in front of it- the weirder the spelling the better. For example I've heard Taylee, Nayvie, Payzlee, Kynlee for girls and Braigen, Zayden, Treyton for boys. It's a weird Utah/Idaho/Arizona thing I think and I'm not sure why. But I made sure all my kids had names you've heard before and don't follow these "rules" lol! No offense to anyone who likes names like these of course, just not my cup of tea!

Being a teacher, I've seen all sorts of weird names. My brother in law taught a girl named Syphilis (Si-PHIL-is). I had a student whose name was pronounce Jacorey, but it was spelled Jarcarijas. I got that one completely wrong on the very first day.

My name (Tori) was not common when I was little. I remember always being so bummed that there was never a personalized whatever for my name like there was for my friends. It's not so uncommon anymore, though. We made sure to give our kids normal names, although we do have confusion with my youngest because he actually goes by his middle name instead of his first.

my friend and i started talking about this last night, and i remembered a few i had forgotten. the biggest one that comes to mind is this...
when i was in 7th grade, i had a teacher named Mr. Bible. His wife had a baby. They named him Jesus. Jesus Bible. *forehead slap*

I probably should not but some of these names have had me laughing. Oh! I just wonder did people think when they were putting these names together. My name is bad enough. I hated always having such a long and easily mispronounced name. I say it "tro-nees-ee-ya" but most will call me "tro-neesh-a" or "tro-neej-a". I just gave up by 2nd grade..lol!

To add to the list though..one of my mom's classmates is named Byrd. She has a daughter named Raven and a granddaughter named Dove. Then, Byrd's sister with a pretty normal name (Annette) has children with the names : Princess (girl), Diamond (boy), Treasure (boy).

In Hawaii we ran into a girl who was named "Abcde" :o. She pronounced it ab-sid-e
