What's your preference?

I'm chocolate all the way, but I am weird about bakery icing. Often I don't like it.

That chocolate mousse cake at Costco is super awesome, though!

My favorite are the ice cream cakes and anything chocolate or cookies and cream.

For regular cake I like a vanilla cake with choc. frosting.

I love vanilla cake too. Icing I'm wide open about. I really love the local bakery's almond cake & frosting. YUM!!!! Of course, I'll eat just about any kind you stick in front of my face!

I love cake, any cake, but if I have to choose then it's puertorrican wedding cake. It is a brandy or rum cake.

I have a no fail yummy chocolate recipe I use for most birthday cakes, filled with chocolate spread/whipped cream and topped with melted chocolate. Or sometimes I will do a chocolate ganache instead.

I love most cakes, but we're not stuck on tradition and have actually started doing birthday pies instead most of the time. I love a nice fluffy/creamy chocolate pie. I may ask for an amaretto cheesecake this year though. I haven't had cheesecake in ages. Mmmmm.

Love birthday cake but the icing....not so much. Now they do a whipped icing and its almost like whip cream. I can handle that much better.

I prefer chocolate, but I'll take any homemade cake over storebought. That is a requirement for me.

When I was preggo with my 2nd child, I had gestational diabetes. SO SAD for a girl with a sweet tooth. So I told my Mom that after he was born all I wanted was that nasty lard icing. Well, darn if she didn't bring me a bit tub from the local store bakery. LOL!!! It was heavenly & I finished it in about 3 days! LOL!

ok, that sounds amazing... amaretto cheesecake, I better look for a recipe.

I do love a good whipped icing. My chocolate buttercream icing always fools everyone thinking it's whipped icing. I just whip the bejesus out of it.

What a sweet mom you have! I wanted beer, that is all I wanted after giving birth!

Never met a cake I didn't like...except maybe fruitcake. But I guess my preference would be chocolate.

I can almost feel myself getting fatter just reading this thread! I love cake... really anything with sugar and I'm there! As much as I love cake I love ice cream even more so I usually have an ice cream cake for my birthday. I made this ice cream cake for my DS a couple months ago and it was SO SO yummy... the sauce on top was just divine!

This is the cake I made earlier this year for DS 18th birthday

And a couple of years ago for his 16th

Chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and then fondant icing decoration.

This was a few years ago now for youngest DD's birthday

Chocolate cake with melted chocolate over the top. I buy these cute chocolate novelties most years to put on the cakes as a cheat's way of decorating!

And another for her (she is an Easter baby so often her parties are chick or bunny themed)

I did more cute ones recently for her but pics are on the laptop (DH using at moment). One was a circular cake using chocolate flakes to make a nest, which chocolate chicks and mini eggs. Another was a cake with a smaller one made in a little pudding basin on the top with some gouged out and crumbs piled up, to make a rabbit burrow, with a novelty chocolate bunny and carrots/flowers.

Wow, Suzanne, those all look great! Looks like you used fondant on some of those...it looks so cool! I prefer cheesecake or carrot cake, but what I actually have each year on my birthday varies. I let dh and the kids surprise me. I prefer cakes with buttercream frostings...shortening based frostings are so disgusting!

I hate buttercream.

I prefer cream cheese frosting. Red velvet, carrot, or chocolate cake with cream cheese mmmm

Those cakes look amazing Suzanne! I am not a huge cake fan - but we were at a recent B-day party at a friends house and the cake was divine. They purchased it at a local bakery - so that is where I want my next cake from. Oh, and I would love to try one of Buddy's cakes (Cake Boss).

I am not picky with cake or frosting, I'll try any and eat most.
