Pad Patter 2/9 - Grocery Shopping

I order online on Sunday for Monday delivery! :-)
I'd be in heaven if I could have my groceries delivered! Last time I checked there were no stores near me that deliver. I think Amazon has a grocery delivery service, but they don't deliver in my area either.

We used to go as a family but we always spent WAY too much money that way. Now I go alone whenever possible and I try my best to keep it to under $100 a week. It's really hard though! Especially when we need cleaner, laundry soap or any of those type of extras.

When my husband goes he always gets the wrong brands and never checks prices on anything. LOL!

We use Peapod and love it (been using them off and on since '97-ish). You might check them out as I know their other main market is out east. It's a lifesaver for me... no impulse shopping, ability to add things to my cart as soon as I run out of things, I can "shop" via my phone while sitting at my kids' classes, etc. And the biggest bonus of all is that I don't have to go to the grocery store!! Just my occasional Trader Joe's runs.

We don't have a delivery one, but we do have one that has online ordering and you just pull up and they load your car. I'd use it except their prices are so much higher than the other store. Then again, I'd probably save 50% by not going in the store. lol

That's my rationale... Peapod's prices can be a bit higher, but I do not impulse shop and stick only to what I need. So my bill ends up being the same or less. I can be a bad impulse shopper! :-/

I just checked and they don't deliver in my area. :( At least I have Amazon Prime. With free shipping and two day delivery, there's a lot of everyday stuff I can avoid going to the store for.

I go with hubby, we like to get this and that, and he says can you make this and that :) We make a big shopping day out of it :)

I usually go alone but I like it when Ella comes with. :) She's my shopping buddy, especially now that she's a fluent reader. Eric is a giant pain in my buttcheeks so I make him stay at home. He's a major price checker and is super out of touch on the price of things (probably b/c I don't let him shop) and drives me nuts. He'll go, OMG milk is HOW MUCH??? And the freaking out wears me out too much.

If Ella was a beggar I'd leave her butt at home too. But I like the company.

It does bring back memories of when I stayed at home with the kids. Just to get out of the house I'd take all 3 with me, and I'm thinking of particular times when the boys were tiny and still in the carry-type of carseat. I'd have them in the double stroller, pushing that, and the cart I'd pull behind me, and Ella would walk along holding the stroller. OMG the comments. ;)

My hubby likes grocery shopping and I don't mind when he comes with me. I have to be in a wndering around looking at stuff kind of mood though because thats how he shops.

I prefer to go alone, but I usually have to bring DD with me.

Hubs can't be trusted to shop on any level. Grocery shopping, to him, means bringing him various meats, snacks, and anything else that is on sale. There are never any complete meals, mostly not the brands I like or buy, and at least half a dozen things that we do need that he forgot to buy.

I only had to learn that lesson twice. :groan

I normally go on my own through the week sometime, but DH and I will go together now and then on weekends. He is more of a no list, just buy what ever catches your eye type shopper. I have my list written in order of how the grocery store is laid out.. produce, bakery, deli, meat dept, aisles, and frozen. I like when we go together although I do feel a little more rushed when he comes along.

I go by myself.. but i'm awful at shopping. I buy enough food for like 3 days. and then get yelled at :p

I HATE shopping with DH. He always buys junk food and rushes me though shopping so I end up having to go back to the store to buy the stuff we really needed. And yes, it costs me way too much. Ridiculous! lol
