Are you one that avoids doctors at all costs? Or do you rush in at the first sign of trouble?

I'm mostly an avoider. I have to be nearly dead, and then my dh drags me in kicking and screaming.

UNLESS it's a running injury type problem. Then I'm there at the first sign of trouble. :rofl

I try to let colds run their course, if it's been over a week and things are getting worse, I'll take my kids to the doctor.

We spend a lot of time at doctors offices for my oldest, who's special needs - we go to all the specialists all the time. They're usually
    half day appointments at least.

I try not to rush to the doctor unless I can tell its serious. It has been serious, fast for my oldest plenty of times, so it sorta depends
on the child and what their needs are.

Ugh. I hate going to the doctor's. Or being sick for that matter. Luckily, we are relatively healthy most of the time.

    Avoider...
but lately I will go if I NEED to and sometimes I am not sure if I need to or not.
I don't really like my primary care doc... well more the office than the doc... they are RUDE, but I've not found anyone better.
That is really what makes me avoid these days.
I am not lucky like LeeAndra... I have developed asthma in my adulthood and take allergy shots.
I do LOVE my allergy clinic though. Never met a better group of people EVER. My allergist doc is 84 and has the spunk of a 60 year old. She's fantastic!!

    Avoider, here too!

Hate, hate, hate going to the doctor and really try to doctor myself before I go shell out a co-pay and deductible. Yea, I get stingy with my money when it comes to doctor visits.

I avoid them when I can. I do go the allergist every month to make sure I get my shots - then I can avoid other types of doctors. But I do think it's easier to go get a z pack than to suffer with a cold so I make myself go!

I used to be an avoider until La went through her stuff last year... especially since I was found to have a clotting disorder after I had all my miscarriages... now any pain totally freaks me out... thankfully, it's only been restless leg syndrome and no clots... but still freaks me out...

also since I've had too many friends with melanoma and some not survive, I'm realizing how important it is to get checked regularly... hubby and I were just talking about it this morning... we've already spent $1,000 of our flex spending account this year because we haven't been to the dentist for 7 years and now we're paying for it... and I have periodontitis because it's been so long and have had 2 pregnancies since my last cleaning... ironically, I used to work for a periodontist, so I should have known better about how important it is to have regular check ups and cleanings... sigh... and I'm such a better mom now that I've been diagnosed with ADHD... seriously... the energy I have now, the fact that I don't have debilitating headaches anymore... makes me wish I had known earlier... I'm the mom I always wanted to be now... plus, there is heart disease and cancer on both sides of my family... I just want to be able to live for my children and would hate to see them grow up w/o me...

so... as much as I hate what La went through and I'm so thankful she's alive to share her story... it was a serious wake up call for me...

tho... for colds and stuff like that, I don't go... but I do take my kids because they seem to be prone to ear infections when they get a cold... and since Isaac's on his 4th round of antibiotics for this darn ear infection... I'm ready for him to get tubes.

I pretty much self-medicate for colds and such, especially for me. Hubby never goes to the doctor.

For my son I'm a little more apt to go. Not for colds or a 24-hour bug, but for sore throats YES...because it's always strep. And for any other odd illness I take him.

But I HATE to pay co-pays, especially when they want you to come back for a follow-up for something minor.

I get an annual physical and go to the dentist twice a year. I go to the doctor when I have a problem or the issue doesn't go away on its own in a couple weeks. I don't enjoy going, but I suck it up and go, because it's what I deserve and what the people who love me deserve. My mom never went to the doctor for physicals and exams, and even when she had bleeding after menopause she didn't get it checked out. It turned out to be pretty advanced uterine cancer and she died 9 months later. I ♥♥♥ her but can't help being angry at her sometimes for not going to the doctor sooner. So I do it for the people I love.

Totally an avoider, but trying not to be. If I hadn't been an avoider, they might have caught my ovarian cancer prior to stage 3c.

So go to the doctor, people! ;)

I am kind of an avoider but I feel like I am at the dr all the time. I hate to go, but I do think it's important to take care of yourself!

I am an avoider usually. I've been more the last several months for my anxiety/depression than I have my entire life and I'm almost 45! It doesn't help that I am a CMA and work in the field, medical personnel are usually the worst patients LOL.

If my kids are sick, I usually err of the side of taking them so they don't get super sick. For me... I have to be nearly unable to walk before I'll go in, but I am so rarely sick that it usually isn't a problem. My medicine is to just sleep it off. :)

I get my annual check up and go to the dentist twice a year though because all of that is paid for 100% by my insurance, so why not? I don't even have a family doctor though.

I do my annual checkup and go to the dentist regularly, and that's about it. I did recently find a GP that I really, really like, so I feel like she'll really listen to me if I feel like something's wrong, so I have gotten some "old stuff" that was bugging me checked out.

Pretty much have been an avoider, but I usually would know when it was serious enough to go in. For instance, one of my boys called me in to look at a sore on his bottom one day. He's already adult age at this time, but yeah...he wanted me to look at his butt. Being the good mom that I am, I looked. I got him into the doctor that day and it was a staph infection...it took two rounds of strong antibiotics to kill it too...along with some good soakings. It really just looked like a sore, but I knew it wasn't normal. Also, with my dh not being able to walk anymore...that was a sign to tell him to get his hiney to the doctor immediately.

As for me, I'm getting better about going. I'm older now, and when I'm having pains in my chest while breathing, it kind of freaks me out. Things like that wouldn't have bothered me 1o years ago, but now I think of all the worst. Thankfully I'm pretty normal and the dr. says my heart is that of a 16 year old.

I hate doctors so I usually have to be dragged in. I have just seen so many over the last 3 years and it seems you almost have to force them to help you sometimes. It just becomes draining.....

well being a first time mom i tend to over react and take him in because i don't know what is what... but last labor day that all changed. it started a week before. my son was getting sick. ran fevers. well to make a long story short, at 20 months his appendix ruptured. he was life flighted to a hospital 3 hours away. he was in the hospital for 20 days. so after that i really over react and the first fever after all of that i freaked out because fever meant abcess and sure enough there was an abcess. soooo i have relaxed more but at least the appendix is out of the way lol.
