My nephew Andrew is turning 8 and I need ideas for stuff that an 8 year old boy likes! I don't have any kids of my own so I have no idea what's awesome for an 8 year old, LOL.

So any suggestions would be awesome, and link me up!:tu

I asked my 8 yr old boy and he said legos, ninjagos, star wars stuff, beyblades, battlegons (i dont know wtheck that is :p )

battlegon = bakugan. do not ask an 8 yr old how to spell things :p haha

What kind of a kid is he? My nerdy 7yo nephew would love a science/rocks & minerals/telescope/experiment-in-a-box (the Smithsonian has lots of boxed up kits you can buy) kind of present, but my 9yo ADHD megaboy stepson would like a game for his DS, an Itunes GC, or something to do outside (outdoor game, camouflage gear, a cool accessory for his bike).

My 8 year old boy is DYING to get the new dinosaur legos. I think we already own pretty much every star wars lego set under $40. HAHA. He loves books (like the How to Train Your Dragon series). He loves getting gift cards for things like fast food, movies, ice cream. Any sort of weapon - like nerf guns or nerf swords. Those get used a TON around here. Or you could think ahead for the summer and get him a cool super soaker or some pool toys. Or games - my boys all love games. They have Star Wars operation & trouble, one of my kid's FAVORITES is Apples to Apples Jr. There's always Star Wars action figures or transformers. It really depends on the kid - mine aren't into bakugan/beyblade/pokemon stuff at ALL. But I think most 8 year olds are into Star Wars. LOL

YES! What Leeandra said too - my bil got the boys each a build-your-own-robot set (like $10 from Michaels) for their bdays last year and they LOVED those. Although, kind of boring once it's done, but the building part was fun :)

Legos, Star Wars stuff, and video games... That is what mine wanted when he was 8.

Great suggestions! He's not a super rambunctious boy. I gave him Mario Kart for the Wii at Christmas and he LOVES it. Plays it almost every day!

I bought beyblades for my friend's son and they were a huge kit. Kenzie says they are the big thing here with boys that age.

I would second (or fifth..lol..not sure how many have mentioned it) Lego. I think most little boys (and little girls for that matter) love Lego. My nephew will be eight this summer and loves video games, pokemon, and anything about animals (we got him a tshirt with a snapping alligator on it and he wears it all the time and he has memorized the animal fact files that my sisters found him at a yard sale).

or what about a magazine subscription? kids love getting mail!

Yes, I think this is true!

My boys are younger than your nephew, but pretty much everything that has been said I would definitely agree with. One year, their grandma got them a subscription to National Geographic, Jr and they LOVED that, even though they couldn't read any of it, so he might like that even more since he can read. I don't know. I am always scared of buying the right gift and be the very uncool aunt!

For his bday last year I bought him the Fuji Instax camera with 20 films. He used up all the film within a couple of hours after receiving it, taking pictures of everything. He was so excited, LOL!

The magazine subscription is a great idea too, thanks!

Another vote for Beyblades here. They are my 8 year old's latest obsession. He likes Legos, too, but is starting to get burnt out on them.

Do you live close by? I find that my boys love to receive tickets to a game or fun event from our extended family, with a promise that they will all go together.

yes, what La said.
we've also done the air rocket as a gift... very cool... if there's enough space where he lives that he can launch it. it's just a light-weight foam rocket that launches with built up air pressure. pretty simple. veryfun. and not very costly.

but for my boys, legos, ninjago, lego dinos, pokemon, bakugan, beyblades... all good. they both are also really into reading, so books always work too.

Legos are always a hit, Anything Nerf or camo, Lego Ninjagos and THE thing with all the boys at school right now and Beyblade (although we don't have any of those yet). Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are great for that age too. And yes, Star Wars anything. :) Looks like you have lots of great ideas to go on! :)

I second the National Geographic magazine - my 8 year old loves to receive it and reads it immediately. He's also a big Star Wars fan. He might already have this, but the new Karate Kid movie was a big hit with my son. Maybe an art set, Battle Ship game, the Guardians of Ga'hoole book set are all favs.

YES! my kids love the kids national geographic magazine and any and all nerf guns. They especially love the disk ones right now. :)

Yes! My kids love the nerf guns too. The disc ones are fun. They have glow in the dark discs now. We just bought one for a birthday gift.
