Do you pin your layouts?

Hmmmm....I looked up the etiquette to get a clearer look :)

"Avoid Self Promotion
Pinterest is designed to curate and share things you love. If there is a photo or project you’re proud of, pin away! However, try not to use Pinterest purely as a tool for self-promotion."

To me, this says don't just pin your own designs, or products from your business, or blog posts by you, etc, to promote yourself. I don't think that pinning layouts is self-promotion since you are more showing the product/kit off than your own mad scrapping skills, lol. You are spreading the word about an awesome product or idea. It also does say that if there is something you make that you are proud of, pin away, and it also says don't use pinterest, PURELY as a tool for self-promo, which makes it seem like you can pin stuff you made, but not JUST stuff you made. Really pretty much any pin is some form of advertising for someone - if you see a recipe and go to it, someone advertised that site with that recipe, etc. I think it is saying just don't promote yourself through pinterest, at least in my understanding.

I definitely understand where some of you are coming from with the fact that they are very public and things get pinned like crazy though too.

and this is why I don't pin ALL of my layouts, just the ones I really like... and I don't just pin scrapbooky stuff, I pin lots of other stuff too for homeschooling... I guess I don't see pinning my own layouts as self-promotion and I guess if other people feel it is then they can just unfollow my board... I'm not forcing anyone to follow that board... just like I unfollow peoples' food boards because I just have no self-control when it comes to seeing yummy food online LOLOL

I pin other peoples' layout too because I find them inspirational... I'd hope that some of my layouts are inspirational enough to be repinned LOLOL

Exactly - after looking at the etiquette, I see no reason you can't pin your own layouts, even all of them if you wanted to, because you are not promoting yourself, you are promoting the designers who made the kits and the stores. And like you said, you pin lots of other things too. I guess before reading this thread, I had a preconceived notion that you couldn't pin anything that you made yourself based on something I saw on another forum, but after reading the etiquette, it clearly says that you can. BTW, I homeschool too. I always love to find pinners who have homeschool boards. :)

Oh, I realize that, Heather, but I'm not too concerned with other people pinning my layouts. I'm not *that* good. :)

I do not pin my own layouts. I thought Pinterest was clear that you were not to use it as advertising. Like number 3 in the etiquette. :)

Pinterest is meant to be inspiring not promotional and when I feel like I get a promotional vibe I tend to unfollow people/boards.

I don't really use Pinterest, but I have to say I agree with Crystal. I don't think Pinterest should be used for promotion at all, even promotion of your designers. I can see you pinning someone else's layout because you are inspired by it, but I don't like the idea of pinning your own layout, even if you really like it, to promote your designer. If people are inspired by it, they will pin it themselves.

I find this thread so interesting. I actually like when their are kits pinned because I've found some things I really like that way. I've also found several inspiring layouts. I don't think though that someone should go and pin like 15 or 20 things at once, then your board gets clogged with one person's pins. I pin kits I like and might want to buy (that's a super easy way to keep things you might to go back and buy)... and I started a project life inspiration board which is great.
