Do you pin your layouts?

I don't...for one thing they tell you not to in their etiquette section (while they say it's ok to do so if you're extremely proud of something they definitely seem to frown on you pinning your own items), and for another, I just don't know how inspirational my stuff would be to other people so I don't want to flood their pages with my layouts (however I am tickled pink when I find someone has pinned one of my layouts or projects).

I have thought about it but haven't for the same reasons that Sarah mentioned. I didn't know you weren't supposed to, but I would hate to fill up other people's pages who are following me with tons of my own layouts. I have a Shutterfly site now that is "Kelley's Scrapbooking" with several albums, and I just upload everything there.

I do, but not for myself but as a form of advertising for the designers or stores I CT for because it actually has the potential to bring in a lot of new customers... Case in point, one of my layouts has been pinned and repinned a ton and even by one of the ctms on the Project Life team... Last I checked that layout had almost 600 views in the gallery and that was within only a couple weeks of it being uploaded... I guess I don't see how it's any different than posting them on Facebook... And if people don't want to see my layouts they can "unfollow" that board... I do also pin other people's layouts, not just my own... I also know that one of my hybrid projects went viral on Pinterest, to the point that parenting.com has it on their website as a valentine project to do with your kids... And because of Pinterest the hybrid chick gets new customers and new traffic on their site all the time... It's not my business that I'm promoting by pinning my layouts, it is something I do to bring in new customers and business to the designers and stores I love... I do it out of love though, not to promote myself which is why I'm ok with doing it

Ok, I just checked... That layout has 675 views and it was uploaded only a month ago... I have another layout that was pinned a bunch and it has 235 views... Another thing I was going to say is that it's not like we are pinning directly to the product, I think that's what Pinterest means by the rules... It's one thing to pin something we are selling but another thing to pin something we did that we aren't selling

I don't do the initial pinning of my layouts, but if I see one of my layouts/projects pinned I repin it to a board I have called "thanks for pinning me".

Where do you pin FROM, Heather?

the story gallery of the main kit used... so if the main kit is from TLP then I pin from the gallery here so that they come here instead of having to take an extra step to get here by clicking the link from say DST... does that make sense? LOL

I felt that way at first too... it wasn't until I saw the numbers in the gallery views that I realized that maybe this was something I should start doing... I only recently started it... and I don't pin all of my layouts... just the ones I like LOL

This makes a lot of sense. I had never thought of it this way, but it is not like you are self-promoting by doing this. It sounds like it is very effective advertising for the designers. Hmmmm, you have definitely made me rethink my decision not to pin my own!

No because I don't like that it splashes my kid's face all over the Internet. I realize that posting my pages around the sb galleries is public, but non-sb people usually do not browse around sb galleries. I have my FB locked down to 'Friends Only' for the same reason.

Almost everyone I know, however, has a Pinterest page, and everyone can see anything you post on Pinterest. I realize my name is attached to my Pinterest page, but my kid's pics and name is not.

I used to but then stopped when I realized enough of my pages get pinned on their own. Now I just repin them when I find that other people have pinned them.

I do not pin my own layouts. I thought Pinterest was clear that you were not to use it as advertising. Like number 3 in the etiquette. :)

http://pinterest.com/about/etiquette/

Pinterest is meant to be inspiring not promotional and when I feel like I get a promotional vibe I tend to unfollow people/boards.

I never pinned my LOs, I think like LeeAndra, I know galleries are public, and blog too, but I don't feel confortable to see my face being pinned around...there are some things I pin that I got tons of messages, it gets real life, kwim??

and I've never seen my pages on Pinterest...guess that nobody knows me around...LOL!!!!

Hmmmm....I looked up the etiquette to get a clearer look :)

"Avoid Self Promotion
Pinterest is designed to curate and share things you love. If there is a photo or project you’re proud of, pin away! However, try not to use Pinterest purely as a tool for self-promotion."

To me, this says don't just pin your own designs, or products from your business, or blog posts by you, etc, to promote yourself. I don't think that pinning layouts is self-promotion since you are more showing the product/kit off than your own mad scrapping skills, lol. You are spreading the word about an awesome product or idea. It also does say that if there is something you make that you are proud of, pin away, and it also says don't use pinterest, PURELY as a tool for self-promo, which makes it seem like you can pin stuff you made, but not JUST stuff you made. Really pretty much any pin is some form of advertising for someone - if you see a recipe and go to it, someone advertised that site with that recipe, etc. I think it is saying just don't promote yourself through pinterest, at least in my understanding.

I definitely understand where some of you are coming from with the fact that they are very public and things get pinned like crazy though too.

The thing is... anyone can pin your layouts without you knowing it... those two layouts I mentioned earlier with the massive amount of gallery views... I never pinned myself, nor did anyone tell me they had pinned it... that project from THC that went viral, I have NEVER pinned myself, nor did anyone tell me they pinned it... I just started seeing them in my feeds and when I did a search on project life and saw it... and someone informed me about the PL ctm pinning it to her board and these are people I don't follow nor do they follow me... posting your layouts in the galleries is public and anyone can pin them and you have no control over that, so your kids's pics and name will be there anyways whether you pin them or not and non-sb people can see them because non-sb people follow sb people...
