I took my 5 year old to the dentist yesterday and my DH has an appointment today. The both said the same thing, "I hate the dentist!" It's strange because neither one of them has any problems with their teeth. They just get really nervous about going. The dentist doesn't bother me at all. I have two friends who dislike it so much, they do sedation dentistry. So what about you? Is the dentist is nerve-wracking? Do you put off going or do you go every 6 months with a sparkling smile?

I don't mind going to the dentist. I mean, I don't love it, but I don't get nervous. I make my next appt. while I'm there so I go every six months. My boys love going to the dentist because there are two old school video games in the lobby... Pacman and Galatica or something like that. They can't get over that it's free to play them. :) And, when they are done they get to pick something out of the treasure chest plus they get weirdly excited about getting a new tooth brush too. :)

i am scared stiff lol and if it wasnt for the fear of false teeth i wouldnt go,My husband doesnt mind it neither does Rhys but Fin was absolutely petrified but did have a bad experience with one so this new dentist had to refer him to another to try sedation but it didnt work because he couldnt breath through his nose alone but after numerous visits they managed to relax him enough and do the treatment so hopefully he has conquered his fear we will see in a few weeks when he has to go again,i also booked Gabbi in for her first visit, should be fun

We are all going to the dentist in 2 weeks (my husband's new benefits kick in from work) NOT looking forward to going and getting told to lay off my pepsi...lol!

I didn't even want to open this thread that's how badly I fear and dislike going to the dentist. It is my Irrational Fear. My blood pressure rises just thinking about it honestly. I finally found a fantastic sedation dentist back in FL and I was going regularly there like a big girl (though still with the anxiety). I haven't found a dentist here yet and I need to and I'm terrified, truth be told.

I don't like the dentist. I really have had no bad experiences to make me feel that way. It just always feel like a chore and I hate having to have my mouth open all that time and drooling.....LOL

My boys LOVE going to the dentist. But, so far, they haven't had to have any work done. Although every time we go, he tells me about how narrow their mouths are and that there isn't much room...'yes, i know, we are going to be close personal friends with an orthodontist, thanks for the reminder!' LOL

I have always had great teeth, but since we didn't have insurance, I didn't go for a couple of years. (insert gasp!) and when I went in the fall, I had 3 significant cavities and getting them filled seriously went to the TOP of my "do not like" list. It was horrible.

I don't mind going to the dentist, in fact I quite enjoy going every 6 months for cleanings. The only time I dread the dentist, is when I have to have something other than cleaning done. But most of the time, those procedures, I am sedated, so I don't mind. :)

The only time I really, really dreaded the dentist, was when I had my wisdom teeth cut out.

Seriously HATE!!!! I just had all 4 widom teeth removed in November and it WAS HORRIBLE! The best thing about it was the meds they gave me! lol! I would seriously never want to go through that again.. .then again, I was not sedated but I still hated it. The dental surgeon and his assisstants made me feel awful and were not comforting at all. I had to sign a consent form and I was shaking so bad I could barely write my name. Anyhow... one of THE worst experiences of my life!

I didn't even want to open this thread that's how badly I fear and dislike going to the dentist.

Me too! I don't even like conversations about Dentists! I don't go on a regular basis but I do try to go once a year....or when I'm in so much pain I can't stand it anymore.

i hated the dentist, until he removed all 4 wisdom teeths (AT ONCE!!!) last spring.
nothing can be worse than that so i consider myself cured :imok

Oh I chose the "knock me out" method for my wisdom teeth. They gave me a choice. He said they could numb it so that I couldn't feel it, but I'd still be able to hear it, or they could knock me out. Like that's a hard choice? Haha.

That was the WORST though, I will agree. I had it done like 15 years ago and I still don't like to think too much about it. I got it done on Friday and had to paint/clean my grandmother's house all weekend so she could come home from the nursing home she'd been in after a car accident. By Monday I was DEAD. Ugh.

I don't have a fear of the dentist, but like most of you I don't like going either. I had a wisdom tooth removed last summer and for whatever reason my regular dentist has someone else come in once a week to do extractions. He was super nice and told me how he'd been retired for quite a few years, but still worked once a week.. extracting teeth! He told me if I was at all nervous, not to be because he "could fill a suitcase with all the teeth" he'd removed in the last year alone. Not really the visual I wanted 2 minutes before he had his hands in my mouth.

Ugh. DH is bothering me abt this now.

I (and then we) didn't have dental insurance the past several years, so I've only been once or twice since college. Back in college, the dentist I grew up with told me that I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed... and I never did! Now that we finally have dental insurance, I am petrified that I will have a million cavities (until college, I'd never had one), bad gums (like my mom), and have to have my wisdom teeth removed. I have this horrible visual of the dentist going in to check on my teeth and them all falling out into her hands and having to get dentures!

I never used to mind going to the dentist then my childhood dentist retired and I've had two other dentists since and haven't liked going since..

I have lined the pockets of many dentists/orthos/endos/surgeons over the years. And I still have a lot of work to be done (nothing my fault...just bad genes and a brother who jumped on my head as I was going down a slide head first as a child...hmmm scrap therapy maybe??).
But dentists don't bother me. Even knowing i have another root canal coming up doesn't really bother me. I know it will hurt, but I don't stress. The only problem is the cost. :(

my dentist petrifies me!!! not exactly sure why, probably from hearing everyone else's experiences with them put the fear in me. now i pretend that it's a-ok and i'm not scared to go for my nephews so the same thing doesn't happen to them. it's quite difficult sometimes lol! so far so good for them :)

I love to see my dentist... mostly because he is charming, handsome, sweet, and super sexy...

My DH is my dentist:giggle

Honestly though I've never had a problem with the dentist, although when my DH was still in school he was a little offended that I chose to have my visits with a real dentist instead of coming to see him at the school. I just didn't want to be a guinea pig kwim?
