Hi all! I finally scheduled my daughter’s wisdom teeth to be removed and tomorrow is the big day. Eek! She and I are both very nervous.

Send me all your tips and tricks and soft food ideas for what she might be able to eat. I had mine removed 20 years ago but I don’t remember how it went except that I threw up and my poor hubby had to clean it up lol
 
As soon as you pick her up- go eat! I think the nurse will tell you that- because she will be numb and hungry.
My daughter loved mash potatoes! She moved to Mac and cheese quickly.
 
Cream of Wheat or Cream of Rice hot cereal
smoothies
cream soups . . . Here's my favorite right now: https://rainbowplantlife.com/vegan-broccoli-soup/
pudding . . . can be made hearty with tofu (1 pkg silken tofu, ⅓ cup maple syrup, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 Tbsp cocoa powder, pinch salt, pureed in blender)
bean dips . . . maybe eaten with a tortilla or just a spoon?

I don't remember anything from after getting my wisdom teeth out either. That was in 1989 or '90. I do remember buying Cream of Rice cereal for my now 22 year old -- it was not a hit -- and they healed quick enough to not need soft foods very long.

She loves homemade mac so I’ll have to cook some tomorrow. Thanks!

Good to know they healed quick. She loves Cheerios and milk so I’m hoping she can eat that soon after and be happy. I read not to eat dairy first though because it can lead to stomach upset (like it did in my case).
 
My first thought & maybe cause I'm a huge lover of this....mashed potatoes but I've never had my wisdom teeth out so don't know how suitable they would be.
 
I know they will tell you this but I can't stress it enough - no straws! Do not drink out of a straw, drink directly from a cup or if it is thick (like a smoothie or milkshake) eat it with a spoon.
 
I still have my wisdom teeth, we don't routinely remove them here in the UK. When ever we need to go on soft food diets we normally go with fruit purees, homemade yoghurt, and mashed root vegetables.
 
It has been 15 years since I had all 4 of my wisdom's removed. I really can't remember what I ate, but yup definitely no straws as you do not want air in the pocket issues.

Mashed potatoes, pudding, pasta and such.. things that are a little larger as you don't want something like pastina (the small stars) or oatmeal grains getting under the stitching.

Prayers that your daughter will have a speedy recovery!
 
Sounds like you have lots of good soft food ideas. I had mine out about 30 years ago, so I don't remember what I ate, but I do remember that the recovery was pretty easy, so I hope your daughter has the same experience. I didn't know what to expect, so it wasn't bad at all. Only a few years prior to getting my wisdom teeth out, I had my tonsils out and that recovery was horrid, so I was very nervous thinking it would be bad like that, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks everyone! She’s most worried about the IV so after that I’m hoping we’re good.

My eldest son had his wisdom teeth removed three years ago and had no trouble eating afterwards. The next day, he had to eat soft foods and then return to a normal diet. He had to take antibiotics for a week and use mouthwash. Like any rebellious teenager, he didn't use the mouthwash properly, so he got a minor infection and had to take another week of antibiotics and use the mouthwash (which he did properly this time).
 
Since hots foods can be more sensitive, my daughter did applesauce and yogurt a lot too. Along with mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, mac & cheese.
 
Mashed potatoes and lots of butter...yum! Pudding and ice cream for dessert. Yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce. Tomato soup and soggy crackers or bread in it.
 
When I had mine out 43 years ago, I drank milkshakes (no straw!) after it. Don't remember what I ate. Just remember the milkshakes and spending time in bed reading for at least 3 days. I was just happy to not be working at McDonald's for those 3 days ;)

As for soft foods now, scrambled eggs would be good (but not restaurant style scrambled eggs that are more fried). I agree with the mashed potatoes, applesauce and pudding. Those were all things I ate when I had no teeth.

She just had some mashed potatoes for dinner tonight so yes they are suitable.

This is what’s driving her crazy lol not necessarily the no straws part but more the slowly eating from a spoon part lol

I bought her applesauce but I think her sister ate more of it than she did. I thought she would eat yogurt but she had preferred more salty than sweet.

Thank you Christa. She is surviving but not happy with how sore her jaw is. I didn’t think about the oatmeal grains but I have worried about raspberry and strawberry seeds.
