*****CLOSED & WINNER ANNOUNCED*****GAME: The Great December Debate | DYD 2025

Christmas Dinner: We make a ham and then a bunch of appetizers throughout the day instead of a big meal. It'a something we started doing years ago so I'm not stuck in the kitchen cooking all day and we can have fun, tasty, treats all day instead of one sit down dinner.

Again, I try to take pictures of all the food we make to scrap. I really do need to find a good kit for scrapping that.

Imma just leave this right here:

SEVENTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 15TH

Christmas Dinner: Ham or Turkey?

Some of you have already answered this, and I can see that some don't do either, so feel free to just share what you do for your Christmas meal...whenever you have it!
We usually do something other than Turkey. Sometimes it is Ham, sometimes it's a beef roast.
EIGHTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 15TH

Holiday Vacation: White Christmas or Tropical Paradise?
Both. We tend to travel on christmas every other year- this year we leave christmas for St. Lucia! We've done mexico, hawaii & california in the past. I love traveling on Christmas day because everyone is so happy & the airports are usually pretty dead. We usually have snow at home, so on our 'non-travel' years, we have a white christmas- which is just how I like it!
NINTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 15TH

Die Hard: Christmas Movie or Action Movie Filled with Gratuitous Violence?
Any movie that occurs during Christmas means it's a christmas movie in my mind! ;)
TENTH QUESTIONS--NOVEMBER 15TH

Lighting the Menorah: Matches or Lighter?

I know most of us probably don't have a Menorah, so maybe you can answer about your Advent Candles or Kinara.
No menorah, but I recently got one of the electrical candle lighter things and it's awesome for my holiday candles & our one burner on our gas stove that wont light automatically. lol
ELEVENTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 16

Fruitcake: Iconic or Inedible?
Gross. If I'm getting a packaged dessert- I prefer panettone!

Fruitcake: Iconic or Inedible?
My Mom bakes the most delicious fruitcake... it's about the only one I ever eat. In fact when she turned 50 and we did a surprise party for her, we actually got her to bake the cake for an "order" but a friend decorated it... hehe sneaky!

I love the long candle/grill lighters for lighting the menorah. Well, for lighting the shamash (helper candle) that we then use to light the rest of the candles.

TWELFTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 16TH

Christmas Stockings: Matchy-Matchy or Individualized?

I'm posting two questions back-to-back because I was out when I would have posted one earlier!

THIRTEENTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 16TH

Dinnerware: The Good China or Holiday-themed Paper Plates?

I have a funny story about our stockings. The year my youngest was born, I decided to change it up as I didn't like the stockings we were using. They were unlined yarn-based, so trying to stuff them was awful. Things always got hung up. So, I made the mistake of taking my daughter with me to go get some coordinated, but not all the same, fabric-based stockings. I found these sort of dark brick red, and dark forest green stockings, with plaid and little snow scenes, and you know, one with a Santa, one with snowmen, one with smaller Santas, one with angels. But my daughter saw one with more of a satiny finish, an angel with a harp and she wanted it. Couldn't say no, but there it is, every year in the line-up, not matching the other ones!

When I was married, I had a set of Christmas dishes, but now, since I don't really have people over for Christmas, I would probably buy paper plates. Not the cheap ones. The nice platter sized ones that are really sturdy. I did host Christmas dinner once in this location, before my roommate/owner changed our dining room into our living room and our living room into a studio apartment to rent out. I did buy some cute paper plates that year.

Fruitcake: Iconic or Inedible?
As a child, I couldn't understand how the adults loved such Christmas delicacies as mincemeat pie and fruitcake and plum pudding with brandy hard sauce. These desserts just seemed so rich and heavy and booze-laden, and where was the chocolate?!

As an adult, I do appreciate a nice little slice of Christmas cake (fruitcake), but just a slice, if you please: in this case, less is definitely more!

Stockings- Matchy Matchy I guess! I have 5 that all match that I used puff paint to add the kids and Mommy and Daddy when my kids were babies. Now, I'm not allowed to get new ones! LOL.

I always take pictures of the stockings laying in the pile of presents in front of the tree on Christmas Eve after they have been filled!

TWELFTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 16TH

Christmas Stockings: Matchy-Matchy or Individualized?
Matchy matchy-ish- my husband & I's match, then we added the 2 additional silver ones for my kids. We have 2 white ones for the doggies. When we started billeting hockey boys, we added 2 more white ones for them too. So some matching, but mostly silver & white.

I'm posting two questions back-to-back because I was out when I would have posted one earlier!

THIRTEENTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 16TH

Dinnerware: The Good China or Holiday-themed Paper Plates?

We have my husband's great grandma's china- it's so pretty & we've used it for when we hosted thanksgiving. But we haven't hosted or gotten it out in awhile. I do usually get some holiday themed paper plates to give treats & baked good to all the neighbors!

FOURTEENTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 16

Christmas Tree 2: Flocking or Naked-the way God intended?

Though I love a snow covered tree outside, I don't want that stuff all over the house, so I'll take my tree plain, thanks so much!

This is the last question of the night, but I'll be back on Monday as we have one more day to play! Thank you so much for playing along!

FIFTEENTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 16TH

Hanukkah Gifts: Eight Small Gifts or One Big Gift?

Not my holiday, but If you gave me $20, I would try to buy as many things as I could with it instead of buying one thing worth $20. So, I'm going with eight small gifts! I don't know why I am like this, but I have been like this since I was a kid with my birthday money!
