*****CLOSED & WINNER ANNOUNCED*****GAME: The Great December Debate | DYD 2025

SEVENTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 15TH

Christmas Dinner: Ham or Turkey?

Some of you have already answered this, and I can see that some don't do either, so feel free to just share what you do for your Christmas meal...whenever you have it!
We have Ham AND turkey - and about 20 family members!

I am at work, but wanted to get another question out before I head home in a couple of hours!

SEVENTEENTH QUESTION--NOVEMBER 17TH

Decorations: Up for Thanksgiving or Might Get Done by the 24th?
Lol most of my decor went up the DAY of Halloween. I will die on this hill= Fall decor gets September/October, Christmas decor gets November/December, Winter decor gets January/February. NO ONE is skipping Thanksgiving- turkey tastes the same with the Christmas decor up. ;) ;)

Christmas tree went up after Thanksgiving last year and the year before.

Hanukkah decor usually goes up at the same time since my husband has to get both out of the attic.

2022 (I think), we only had a tabletop tree that I put up all alone on Christmas Eve so my husband could go wait with my mom for roadside assistance in the cold. (But we got Muppet Christmas Carol with him when he got back!)

SPEED ROUND!!!!

QUESTIONS EIGHTEEN, NINETEEN AND TWENTY! GOOOOOOO!!!!!

Christmas Movies: Live Action or Animated?
(Bonus entry for sharing your favorite film!)

Christmas Fudge: With Nuts or Without Nuts?

Latke Toppings: Applesauce or Sour Cream?

I prefer live action Christmas movies and White Christmas is my favorite, with Elf a close second.

Christmas fudge, I am a fan of nuts! Walnuts or pecans or peanuts! Give me the nuts!

I think I'd have to try a latke with applesauce first.

Whew! I did it! Answered all the questions! YOU HAVE UNTIL 11:59 PM EASTERN 11/17/25 TO CATCH UP!

I am the weird one in my family and put hot sauce on my latkes. My husband does it too.

I've never been a fan of sour cream and I find applesauce too sweet. (Weirdly, apples dipped in honey for Rosh Hashanah is a favorite of mine. I just don't like savory potatoes sweetened.)

Does Muppet Christmas Carol count as live action?

A few years back, we did the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special and it was a lot of fun too.

Christmas Movies: Live Action or Animated?
(Bonus entry for sharing your favorite film!)

Both.
Love all of the animated and stop action classics I watched as a kid. Best investment made when I bought them all in DVD sets.
Live action film favorite is White Christmas. We watch it at least once every year. (I own this one, and many others, on DVD too).

Yeah, Muppets are live action, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special. I think you really need to have seen the other movies to get it, though, which I had, so I was good.

Christmas Fudge: With Nuts or Without Nuts?

Latke Toppings: Applesauce or Sour Cream?
Movies: Both! My favorite Animated film is Coco

Fudge: Nuts for sure!

Latke: I've never had one, but after googling I think I'm going with Applesauce!

Light the lamp! not the rat!

Its a classic. Probably my favorite version of Christmas Carol is the Muppets. Nice music, cringy jokes, a cute narrator, and it still gets the main story in. It is just a feel good watch when a lot of the versions of the story are so serious.

THE DEBATE IS NOW CONCLUDED...PLEASE STEP OFF YOUR SOAPBOXES!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our court of public opinion surrounding holiday traditions! I was totally captivated by all of your stories, but not persuaded in the least to change my very dogmatic points of view! :rollin

I encourage you to go back and copy and paste your answers into a document somewhere, because through all the good-natured banter, you have pre-planned a ton of holiday/family/tradition pages! You're all amazing storytellers, and I hope this little exercise inspired you to get these stories down on paper to share with family and friends.

Stay tuned to hear who the winner of our $5.00 gift certificate is! Thanks again everyone! This was a blast!
