The Brand New Version of Affinity - And it's Free.

@CathQuillScrap you might be able to answer this or Angela or anyone else active in this thread with some Affinity experience - i read/saw somewhere (seen a lot of videos and read blogs now) that once you've DL'd it and set it up, you can use Aff offline so i assumed (i know, never assume) that once i logged in as me and it opened a Chrome tab to verify my Canva login, the next time i wouldn't need to do that - it'd just open up the desktop application and off i go, but that doesn't seem the case? do i need chrome open all the time? that was part of what i didn't like about Photopea :(

You can work totally offline.. no need to have chrome open or sign in. It's a once off to download only.

don't need to be online to use it. Did you finish the installation and registration key process before going offline? You need to be logged in to do that. After that you don't need canva or the internet. If you are still having problems contact tech support as something isn't right with your set-up.

I've been playing with Affinity for the past couple of days. Its definitely a bit of an adjustment but fairly similar to Photoshop.
The clipping photos to a mask thing threw me at first as its the reverse of the process in PS. I love that you can create a personalized Studio which I will do once I become more familiar with the program. I did try playing with shadows a bit but no styles so far. I have so many styles, I will be very sad if I can no longer use any of them :cry
One question I have is - what is the best way to resize and sharpen your layout for posting online? I have always used an action (that I've had forever) in PS. When I went to resize in Affinity, I found the result was quite blurry.

For styles: I found it easiest to open an existing layout and then create the style from there to my own style set. You select the element you want to copy the style from, open the styles panel and from the dropdown choose "add style from selection". Then just rename the style to something you will remember.

For layouts for the web I use: File > Export > and choose 800x800 pixels at 80 to 90% quality to make it a small file. I don't get any blur.

hope this helps a bit. Other tips can be picked up by watching Angela's tutorials... that how I learnt most stuff.
